A:  Yes, this timer has the extra wire for the 3 pole switch. If someone turns off one of the wall switches, I assume it will turn off the timer switch too.

      Answer This Question

A:  Usually, this timer is used for Dusk to Dawn, but in your case you want Dawn to Dusk. When programming the dusk to dawn feature, it asks for the current dusk and dawn time on the clock for your area. Maybe you could program your dawn time when it asks for your dusk time. Then, put in your dusk time, when it asks for your dawn time. It seems to me that this should work, and then adjust for longer and shorter daylight hours, and for daylight savings time. I can't say for certain, but I believe it would work. If you wish the timer to turn on before daylight, then just adjust the actual time of daylight that you program into the timer by the 30 minutes. You could just not use the dusk to dawn feature, and simply program in start and stop times, however, in this case it will not adjust for seasonal changes in daylight.

      by|Sep 14, 2017

A:  During programming, the unit will suggest a Dawn and Dusk times based on the Zone (latitude) you selected. You can adjust the Dawn and Dusk time based on the actual of your location. You can thus simply advance the Dawn time 30 minutes and increase the Dusk time 30 minutes. Note that in your case by turning on at Dawn and off at Dusk the appliance will be on all day during the daytime. I am guessing you had dawn and dusk reversed.

      by|May 4, 2023

A:  The short answer is No. There is a dawn and dusk setting that somewhat follows the built in calendar. What that means is the dawn and dusk time will change as the sun rise and setting time change throughout the year. You can set it to follow that dawn/dusk time, but I do not believe you can set it follow that time with 30 mins before and after. You would have to constantly make small changes each day since the sunrise and setting times change just about every day.

Q:Mine stopped working after about 18 months. Any ideas? Just replace it?

A:  Make sure the manual switch on the timer was not turned off by mistake...but, sounds as if you tried to reprogram it too, and you're not getting anything on the screen. I don't know the average life expectancy of the timer switch, but you may have to replace it. I've only had mine for about 6 months, but working fine so far.

A:  I had the same problem with one of my own (I have two). I think one was more acceptable to electric surge then the other. Our electricity went off for a few minutes, when it came back on I think it got fried because a week or so later (they are not something I check everyday) I noticed one of the two was not working anymore. I replaced it.

      by|May 4, 2023

A:  Yes. If have two installed. They have each been replaced twice in 5 years. When they fail - it's over! But I love the switch and the replacement cost is tolerable. Wish I had better news. Maybe the manufacturer will read some of these posts and beef up the design.

A:  You may have to recheck your wiring and assuming you turned the breaker off, did you turn it back on? You may have a defective unit, I am not sure how to test, I would exchange it for another unit.

A:  Not that I know of. It maybe very possible that you do not have it wired properly. The wiring instructions are somewhat sketchy especially when wiring it as a 3-way. Pay close attention to every detail and do not make any assumptions.

        by|May 4, 2023

A:  Possibly defective if wired properly. I installed 3 units and all have green backlighting which is always on. If in a bright area, you may have to shade with your hands to see the backlighting.

A:  You can get a replacement switch and front cover from here: https://byjasco.com/products/ge-sunsmart-wall-timer-door-replacement-white I had the same problem and ordered one also. They also have them in beige, so I guess you could switch color if you wanted. Price and shipping seemed quite reasonable.

Q:What are the dimensions? How deep does it go into the box?
          by|Jun 9, 2017

          Answer This Question

A:  This product should fit any standard box, however, the metal "plate surrounding the unit" is crimped, so it can be easily bent and broken off with pliers to trim down the width, if it is slightly too wide for your application....No big deal at all. This unit is fairly deep, so it does take up a fair amount of room in the box...So, some fine tuning is required to shape and fit all the wiring into the box with the unit. If I was installing the box, I would choose the extra deep box that is available, but if already installed, I'm sure you will have the standard depth box. So, just be patient in bending and cramming all the wires and unit into the box. This unit has worked perfectly in adjusting for daylight savings time, and the changing length of day light throughout the year.

          by|Jun 11, 2017

          A:  The timer's dimensions: 2.2" x 4.8 " x 6.8 inches and it goes into the box little over 2 inches.

A:  Hi tommy, yes, this timer requires a Neutral to function correctly.

          by|May 4, 2023

A:  Yes. The only peculiar wiring is on the hot side when you are tying this switch into a 3-way circuit.

            by|May 4, 2023

A:  Yes it does. The neutral is required because the internal electronics of the switch draws power.

A:  Hi calipers, yes, this timer requires a Neutral to function correctly.

              by|May 4, 2023

A:  Yes. In the document that comes with the timer there are several ways to wire it. I used the closest one to your diagram and copied it below yours. I assume you mean by "neutral" to be the "chasses" ground. Some older homes do not have that ground. However, ALL wiring has to have the "neutral" ground as a return or nothing will work. The Neutral and chasses grounds do not connect together anywhere except at the entrance box. Although I didn't wire my timer thee-way, according to the data sheet schematic, it should work. I colored my drawing according to standard electrical code. You may encounter other colors..

                by|May 4, 2023

A:  I don't have instructions handy but if shows a diagram with the switch wire for 3-way without the neutral wire, then it should work. If you don't trust the diagram, call GE (get the number off the package) and ask them to verify it.

A:  You will save by limiting the amount of time your lights are on. Calculate the number of hours the light are normally on minus how many hours you have them programmed for. The switch itself has a low powered LED light and a timer that I can't imagine would take more than 0.5 watts.

                by|May 4, 2023

A:  Although I do not know exactly how much power the timer switch uses it'self, I can tell you that it is very, very little indeed...a tiny amount. Obviously, you would save about 60% electrical power by turning off the light during the daytime and only switching it on at night with the timer switch. Also, the bulb will last more than twice as long. And, if you use an LED bulb, you will save about 90% of the power. Combining these 3 factors will result in a huge savings, over just leaving a light on 24 hours a day with a regular bulb. Of course, with the timer switch, you don't have the headache of trying to remember to keep turning the lights on and off every day.
