A: It should work for general use. You are asking about deflection strength and the bar should work well for that as long as it is adequately affixed to the desk...hopefully with bolts. All of this depends on the distance it is having to span between any two end points.

A: Some stores might have the ability to cut such metal as metal trim, etc. Ours do not. It can be cut on a band saw with metal blade, hacksaw with metal blade, mitresaw with metal blade, or I use an electric hand grinder with metal blade. You will also need a file to clean up the metal edges after cutting to size.

A: I don't think they can cut it in the store. As for cutting it you can use a hacksaw with a metal cutting blade, angle grinder with a cut off wheel, sawzall with a metal cutting blade. Those are the cheap options for cutting this material.
