A: No, you would use the tool for cutting drywall, acoustical ceiling tiles, and plywood

A: I am not aware of a bit for the Dewalt Drywall tool that would cut metal roofing. I've only used a grinder with a metal cutoff disk or there are metal cutting blades for circular saws.

Answer This Question
A: It can cut through plywood and composite. But you need a different blade/bit.

A: In my experience, I would not use it on plywood. It does a pretty good job with drywall. Let me throw in a brief clarification, too. "Drywall" is the generic term for panels made of gypsum plaster pressed between paper. "Sheetrock" is a trademark for a specific brand of drywall. Think of this way: drywall = facial tissues (generic) -vs- Sheetrock = Kleenex (specific brand).

Q:What is a collet and what is it used for?for? I am new to this tool. What kind of attacments (bits. cutters, sanders, ETC..) can I get for my DEWALT DCS551B

Answer This Question
A: Hello zork77
Thank you for your contact. We apologize for any trouble or inconvenience in finding information. Collets form a collar around a work piece or tool. They add an extra layer of protection and occasionally a different size for the chuck itself. The DCS551B is designed specifically as a cut-out tool. It would not be used as a sander or a grinder.

Q:I can't get the cutters to stay in the chuck. Do I not understand how the chuck works or do I have a troubled chuck. Maybe I should ask, how does the chuck operate? Can you use Dremmel bits and cutting disks?

Thank you for your contact. We apologize for any trouble or inconvenience in finding information.
This tool is designed for spiral cutting bits with either a 1/8" (3 mm) or 1/4" (6 mm) shank and
has a tool-free bit change system. To change bits, first turn off the tool and disconnect the
battery from the tool. Remove the depth guide.
1. To replace bit, depress both spindle lock and collet lock and turn collet grip counterclockwise.
2. Insert or remove bit.
If there are further issues, please reach out to DEWALT directly.
