A:  It worked outdoors for me WHEN IT WAS DARK ENOUGH. I was able to use it in the early morning or evening, out of direct sunlight. It will still shine the crosshairs in any condition, but sunlight quickly "dissolves" the potency of the beam (not a scientific answer). I was able to use it to level the piers/beams for a deck at a distance of ~30 feet in shade.

A:  have not used it out doors, but red line was dimmer in sunlight through a window

A:  The answer above is correct. It will work outside, just turn it on. However, in the daylight the beam is difficult and often impossible to see. Works best indoors with limited lighting.

A:  Yes, red lasers do work out doors, but you will get better visibility if you wear a set of red goggles. The red spectrum has it's limitations though. If you need to get longer distances I would recommend a green laser, a bit pricier but the way to go for outdoor applications.
