A: I believe shipping was included in the price. I won't say free, but included in the price. I was charged sales tax, though.
A: Home Depot is currently offering free shipping to your home on this product. So, you would just have to provide the cost of the grill plus tax.
A: There is an opening but you would have a very hard time loading coal into the main cook barrel. You would also need a very small pig as the weight load this thing is probably not ideal for a pig roast. Rack dimensions are also narrow and long.
A: Yes there is both an opening on top of the firebox and one from firebox through to main grill that is large enough to stuff coals through. I have used wood in the smoker box but not in the main grill. I plan to do a small pig or half pig soon and this will work great. I will do it all with fire from smoker box using hickory logs just like I do my ribs.
A: Wood can definitely be used with this American Gourmet Offset Smoker. There is a door built into the side of the offset firebox to allow for easy access. Please follow this link for more information on this American Gourmet Offset Smoker... http://www.charbroil.com/cb-american-gourmet-deluxe-offset-smoker-700-series.html
A: I see no reason why you can't use wood since that's what charcoal is... As far as doors, on the far left of the firebox there is a door to add wood but it also has it's own top mounted door like the grill. I would recommend upgrading the "thermometer" that came with the unit with one that reads temperature, not "cool, ideal and hot"
A: I think QC is limited to making sure that the Char-Broil sticker adhesive placed on the top of the grill is of a significant chemical composition that it is impossible to remove without fire and a grinder. The sticker is extremely high quality, everything else not so much.
A: My 700 series was shipped without blemish. Following the directions regarding applying a coat of cooking oil on the entire cooking area and burning it off with a long slow burn is the key. After 11 hours of smoking meat my 700 still looks like it did when it arrived.
A: Did you season it as described in directions? I had one in the past that I did not season and the paint burned up and ultimately rusted. The new one I seasoned (brushed all surfaces with vegetable oil, and then built small fire that I burned for two hours) and it has held up better. Mine was missing a bolt-they do need to be better inspectors before shipping! The materials I'm afraid are simply the relatively low price for the product.
A: Quality control seemed good to me but a few defects in the r&d dept such as the paint burning off. The gaps I had where smoker box meets main grill will happen due to heat so not really a problem there. All welding on my unit seems in good shape. I didn't find the material flimsy necessarily. Its no cast iron for sure but id say its adequate.
A: I did find some miss formed parts upon initial inspection of product. These were not caused by shipping damage. Proper inspection of product is not being done before packaging.
A: I believe the inspection process is good, as respect to heat loss it was minemal. Some of the welds were a little sloppy. Otherwise the only thing I could gripe about was the packaging to prevent damage and the mickey mouse temp guage. All in all a good buy for the money!
