Q:What underlayment do i use for this? Installing over hardwood flooring

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello Nick! Thank you for contacting AHF Products. When installing over existing hardwood flooring, you would want to make sure that you run the new flooring perpendicular to the old flooring to prevent any issues with excessive gapping. If you are not able to do that, you would need to put down a plywood or OSB underlayment at least 3/8" thick before installing the new flooring. You can use a 2mm foam underlayment on top. You can find detailed installation instructions here: https://hardwoodexpert.ahfproducts.com/knowledge-base/installation-instructions-3-8-1-2-10mm-and-13mm-engineered-products-staple-down-mechanically-fastened-floating-and-glue-down/#subfloor-underlayment-requirements

          Answer This Question

A:  Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Hardwood floors do not have wear layers; that term is typically reserved for vinyl floors because they have a separate layer applied to them that resists wear (hence why it is called a "wear layer"). Hardwoods have a finish applied to them to help resist wear. The finish we currently apply to our hardwood floors is urethane with aluminum oxide. The top ply/veneer of this hardwood floor is 1/12" thick (2mm). We hope that this information is helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact us again, if you have further questions. Have a great day.

A:  Its wear layer is 1.8 mm thick.

              Answer This Question

A:  Hi Nick, Wood is the one flooring product that ages gracefully. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. The recommended underlayments, when floating the Bruce - American Vintage - are the Armstrong Quiet Comfort S-1837 or the Armstrong Quiet Comfort Premium S-1837; however, if you cannot find either of them, then any 2-in-1 Premium Floor Underlayment will be a suitable option. A:  Hi Jim, Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. We apologize for the inconvenience; however, our stain is not available on the market. Our stains are UV cured and applied through our manufacturing process. We recommend contacting a local paint/stain professional who will be able to custom match our stains. Please visit your paint store with a sample of the flooring and the material you would like to match. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and hope this information is helpful. Have a great day.

A:  I don't like it. Feels too spongy and tends to move a lot. No stability.

A:  Good morning, A solid hardwood board is milled from one piece of wood and is typically 3/4" thick (although some come in 5/16" thickness). These products can only be installed in on-grade or above-grade applications. Solid hardwood cannot be installed below ground level, such as a basement or walk-out basement. Solid hardwoods are less structurally stable than laminate or engineered hardwood, and they react strongly to moisture or high humidity. A major benefit of solid hardwood is they can typically be sanded or refinished more than one time. An engineered hardwood board is made up of layers (plies) of real wood that are adhered together to make the board more structurally stable than solid hardwood. Due to the thin top ply of engineered hardwood floors, only a very few of these products can be sanded or refinished up to one time. Please refer to the warranty for your floor to determine the feasibilty of being refinished. The benefit of engineered hardwood is that it can be installed on any grade level and typically has multiple choices for installing such as floating, gluing, or nailing/stapling down.

A:  Good morning Kit, Thank you for writing to us. We do not recommend refinishing our engineered hardwood. We hope this information if helpful. Have a great day.

A:  According to the product's thickness it should be but judging from how it shows nicks from dropped items it would be very hard to resurface it without taking all of the hardwood with it.

                        by|Apr 30, 2019

A:  The short answer is no. The scraped finish varies a good deal and would create the need to sand off too much to be able to refinish. The good side though is it is very durable. Mine has held up to a lot of traffic and animals with no scratching at all.
