Q:What is the wear layer height, 5/16”?

Answer This Question

A:  Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for contacting us with your question. Hardwood floors do not have wear layers; that term is typically reserved for vinyl floors because they have a separate layer applied to them that resists wear (hence why it is called a "wear layer"). Hardwoods have a finish applied to them to help resist wear. The finish we currently apply to our hardwood floors is a Urethane that contains Aluminum Oxide, which is then UV cured. The Bruce - Natural Maple - #AHS4010 is a solid 3/4" hardwood. This means that it's made with solid pieces of wood, so it does not have any layers. We hope that this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact our customer service at 866-243-2726, Monday through Friday from 9am to 4:30 pm, EST. if you have any further questions. Have a great day.

Q:If I can't find a grade for any of your flooring, how can I ever decide if I want to purchase flooring from you. Seems you go the extra mile to not give the grade which makes me wonder about the product.

A:  Hello George! Thank you for contacting AHF Products. We do not use a traditional grading system such as No. 1 and No. 2. We do have performance classes that sort our products into Good, Better, and Best based on the species of wood, wood visual, finish, and warranty of the product. This product is part of our Good category as it contains a wide variety of natural features, a urethane finish, and a 15 year warranty. I hope this helps!

Q:Will this hardwood warp if it's sitting in a non-temperature controlled warehouse for several weeks?

A:  Hi Violet, Natural beauty of hardwood never goes out of style. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Solid hardwood flooring should be stored in the environment in which it is expected to perform. Deliver the materials to an environmentally controlled site. Store in a dry place, being sure to provide at least a four-inch air space under cartons which are stored upon “on-grade” concrete floors. Flooring should not be delivered until the building has been enclosed, with windows and doors in place and until cement work, plastering and other “wet” work is complete and dry. For your convenience, please visit the link below to view our full installation recommendations which include other helpful information regarding storage. We hope this information is helpful. Have a great day. https://bit.ly/320TA9z

A:  Yes, the wood will warp in that case.

Q:Are the pieces beveled meaning on the surface, or totally flat, so they fit tight, no groove between pieces?

          Answer This Question

A:  Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Natural beauty of hardwood never goes out of style. The Bruce Natural Maple - 3/4" x 2-1/4" - #AHS4010 has Micro Edges and Square Ends. This means that the bevel is located on the long side of the board, but not on the short end. We hope that this information is helpful. Have a great day. Hardwood - It's the REAL deal for REAL life.

A:  The long edges are beveled, and I believe you would need to sand down approx. .5 mill in order for the wood to be flat edge-to-edge. If not, then there is a slight groove on the surface, but they do fit tight.

Q:Bruce has several solid hardwood natural maple products at Home Depot. For example, there's this product, the American Originals Country Natural Maple product (model # SHD2710), and the Prestige Natural Maple product (model # CM3700). How do these products differ from one another? It's not entirely clear to me based on the product descriptions on the Home Depot web page. Does the wood grade differ among these products, and/or does the wood finish differ? I'm planning to put hardwood flooring in my house and am trying to decide which product is best for me. I'd like to find a durable product that has a modern, Scandinavian look.

A:  Good morning Scot, Thank you for taking the time to post your question. The lifespan of a wood floor can exceed 100 years, making it a tremendous investment value. The only difference between these two products is in the width. The CM3700 is a 3 1/4" wide plank and the SHD2710 is 2 1/4" wide. Both floors are incredibly durable and include a 50 year warranty. We hope this helps with your decision. Have a great day.

Q:how long should this flooring acclimate?

                Answer This Question

A:  Good afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to post your question. The following information is our current recommendation for acclimating solid hardwood. Solid hardwood flooring should be stored in the environment in which it is expected to perform. Deliver the materials to an environmentally-controlled site. The wood subflooring must not exceed 13% moisture content. Using a reliable wood moisture meter, measure and document the moisture content of both subfloor and hardwood flooring to determine proper moisture content. The difference in moisture content of the wood subfloor and the hardwood flooring must not exceed 4% for strip and 3% for plank. Acclimate the hardwood flooring on or off the job, as necessary, to meet these requirements. Store in a dry place, being sure to provide at least a four-inch air space under cartons which are stored upon "on-grade" concrete floors. Flooring should not be delivered until the building has been enclosed, with windows and doors in place and until cement work, plastering and other "wet" work is complete and dry. When gluing the 5/16" solid hardwood to concrete, it should be at least 60 days old. In regards to environmental conditions, the permanent air conditioning and heating systems should be in place and operational. Installation sites should have a consistent room temperature of 60° -75° F (16°-24° C), and humidity of 35-55% for 14 days prior and during installation and throughout the service life of the floor.

A:  It’s definitely fairly heavy but with a dolly and two people we easily unloaded 10 boxes one at a time.
