Q:Are these floors durable from scratches from dogs?

Answer This Question

A:  Any hardwood floor is going to be more susceptible to scratches from dog nails, so we recommend keeping a pet's nails trimmed at all times to try to cut down on the likelihood of pet related damage. Our laminate products are more pet friendly products than our hardwood products.

A:  I have put this floor in our kitchen about 6 years ago and we have a 75Lb dog. It has held up well to the dog claws, however it does seem to get affected by sunlight. The areas near the French door seem to have faded to a blonde and are showing a patina finish due to traffic. It is probably the highest traffic spot in the house. We have a throw rug under the kitchen table and you can really see the difference in color of the wood when you peel back the rug. I have also put it in our master bedroom, but that is only 1 year old. So I'd say it is OK with regard to the dog, but if you get a lot of direct sun, you may see some color shift. Likewise if you have a direct outdoor access to the kitchen, your life expectancy of the area will be 6 to 7 years.

A:  Yes, small dog shouldn’t be an issue but I have a 100# lab and I’ve seen some scratches in the finish.

A:  I just installed it in my kitchen and I have a friend who has an architect sister who installed the same thing in her kitchen. My understanding is that it holds up really well. I’ve had white oak in another kitchen for the last 11 years and its fabulous.

Q:Can this solid maple strip flooring from Bruce be glued to a concrete floor slab?

          Answer This Question

A:  Hi there Howard, Solid Hardwood floors are not recommended to be glued down, especially to concrete slabs. These particular floors are mainly nail or staple down depending on the thickness. This particular thickness is rated for nail-down installation. Solid Hardwood floors are --not-- able to be installed below-grade, like in a basement. They must be at grade or above. - Jay

A:  Our recommended method of installation of this product would be nailing it down to a wooden substrate but you can also install this as full spread with our recommended adhesive Armstrong Summit. For installation methods or information about this adhesive please speak with your local Home Depot representative.

A:  Item AHS4010 has a 5 year finish warranty. One of the reasons why some of our products have a longer warranty is due to the finish that is applied to the product. This product has a urethane finish. Most of our products have a urethane finish with aluminum oxide, which makes it a more durable finish, therefore we offer a longer warranty.
