Q:adult bedroom over teenagers bedroom in basement. will this cut down on the noise in both direction?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello and thank you for choosing Auralex! The problem you may be experiencing is actually a sound isolation problem. Treating an existing room with absorption, such as the Auralex Pyramid, will not actually solve your problem in entirety. Usually with a sound isolation issue, it involves a bit of a construction project. If you follow the link I have included here : https://www.auralex.com/products/construction/ you can find more information on how to properly isolate the upstairs room, from the downstairs room. We have several products we use to achieve proper isolation, and when used all together and done correctly, it makes quite a bit of difference. If you have further questions, feel free to call us anytime at 317-842-2600. Thank you!

    Q:How do you secure these...glue?

A:  Hi Barb, There are multiple options from our TubeTak Pro & Foamtak Spray Adhesive, to EZ-Stick Pro Tabs. You can even use some DIY temporary options such as inserting small finishing nails at an angle to hold it on the wall. Or using adhesive to apply it to a light weight cardboard or poster board backing then hanging that on a picture frame hook. I hope this helps, please let us know if you have any questions.

Q:how about the soundproofing STC rate?
      by|Mar 12, 2019

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Pat, Studiofoam isn't designed to sound proof a room; it's meant to control reflections within a space. For that reason, we measure its absorptive capacity as a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) instead of Sound Transmission Class (STC) which is how we measure our isolation products. If your goal is to keep sound out of or inside your room, we recommend a layered treatment, which you can read about on our website here: https://www.auralex.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Sound-Isolation-Materials-Quick-Guide.pdf

A:  Yes, this product can be used to dampen sounds.

        by|May 6, 2023

A:  Thanks for your question. The Studio Foam panels are not designed to dampen sound, per se. Is the actual, physical wall vibrating? If so, you will want to decouple first. If you want to get into your wall, we have recommended steps listed in this guide. can follow this. https://www.auralex.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Sound-Isolation-Materials-Quick-Guide.pdf Feel free to give us a call for further consultation. 317-842-2600. Answer This Question

A:  This panel is for absorbing sound reflections off the walls (reducing echo). It does not work for sound isolation. For isolation you need to do two things - decouple the objects you want to isolate or add mass to the obstacle isolating the objects.

Q:Looking to put in between the floor joice of the kids room to keep it quite in basement.

A:  Insulation will help, but you need to mechanically “decouple” the basement ceiling from the floor joists above. This can be accomplished by using narrower joists alongside (but not touching) the existing joists, and extending an inch below as well. Insulate the above floor and insulate the ceiling below. Very similar to this stagger wall: http://www.soundproofingcompany.com/soundproofing101/building-a-staggered-stud-wall/ This works quite well.

A:  Nope, not the right product. For between the joist i would use a SAB insulation. (Sound attenuating blanket) comes in batts like regular insulation 16 or 24 wide. If you're really serious lay a layer of neoprene between to joist and substrate (ie the drywall or whatever the ceiling is made off) as well.
