You should use wiring that matches or exceeds the quality of the existing wire that is used on the circuit. 14 gage is acceptable for use on a 15 amp circuit. 12 gage wire can be used for a 15 or 20 amp circuit. A:  Interesting question, in theory YES, BUT the installation instructions say only use incandescent lamps - however the lamps are driven through a relay (and NOT an electronic circuit - if you can hear the 'click' then it's a relay), the reason for this statement is interference created by the new modern low wattage (CFL, LED) lamps MIGHT/COULD effect the electronics of the PIR sensing circuit, and make it make an incorrect decision as to whether the lights should be on or not. But i have fitted CFL & LED lamps to a RELAY driven type of PIR sensor without any problem in the past, and this one is no exception. It works a treat. So YOU take the gamble that in your case it will be stable in operation, or not.
