A:  No. Per: https://www.amdro.com/all-products/ant-block-home-perimeter-ant-bait-granules "Designed to surround your home with a band of protection". For inside the house use: https://www.homedepot.com/p/AMDRO-Kills-Ants-Bait-Station-4-Pack-100531827/307855811

A:  Since we live in the Florida Keys combatting insects and that goes for ants is something you can not put your guard down. Part of my arsenal is Amdro. We have a dog and two parrots so we are extremely careful. This does not mean I would recommend it to anyone. However I would recommend reading manufacturer's recommendations and then make your own conclusions.

      by|Sep 14, 2020

A:  You can if you want to.. They are little granules and just be careful for any animals including children:) This product is better used on an ant pile though. I have completely gotten rid of them in my 1/2 acre back yard

      by|Sep 15, 2020

A:  Flower, I would only use this particular product for outdoor applications. Amdro does make baits that can be used indoors. They indicate that on the front of the product label. Hope that helps.

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi AntsBeGpne, Yes, please do not apply when the ground or grass is wet, rain is expected within 24 hours, or temperatures are below 50 degrees F. Thanks!

        by|May 29, 2023

A:  Not in my experience, my yard has a large overspray area from Sprinklers and even when wet I’d watch the ants carry it off like it was birthday cake! Just give it a day or two and you will see the benefits

          by|Dec 6, 2020

A:  Per Amdro website: https://www.amdro.com/all-products/ant-block-home-perimeter-ant-bait-granules WHEN TO USE: Do not apply when the ground or grass is wet, rain is expected within 24 hours, or temperatures are below 50°F. HOW TO USE: Do not water-in after application. Follow those simple rules and the ant block will be very effective for you, however, read the label to make sure your ants are on the list and don't be afraid to re-apply if the weather forecast is wrong and you get a drenching within a few days of application. Most sprinkler systems have a shut-off valve or on/off switch and most lawns/gardens can go a few days easily if you normally deep water.

            by|Aug 27, 2020

A:  Yes, you are not supposed to apply this if the ground is wet or rain is expected in 24 hours. Water diminishes the effectiveness of the product

              by|Aug 27, 2020

A:  If you experience a heavy rainfall the granules will be washed away. For this reason I try to apply the granules when the forecast will be clear for a few days. Light rain does not seem to impact the product

A:  I don't think this is a product for termites. I'd contact Home Depot for something else or a specialist.

              by|Jul 22, 2021

A:  Can't say for sure but I very much doubt it. It targets ants not termites.

              by|Aug 10, 2020

A:  I would give it a try - never had that problem. Maybe the company can give you more info.

A:  No, this is meant for ants

              by|Aug 27, 2020

A:  I really do not know the answer to this but I would say no if I had to decide. HD does have a concentrate that you can buy in Florida to kill termites. I believe the difference being the first they take back to their nest and the termite killer works on contact and it really does work.

A:  No. This is formulated to be attractive to ants to carry back to their nest. My ants had no interest by the way. Anyhow, termites will not want to feed on this. You need a remedy specifically for termites. There are baits specifically for termites, ground stakes, or sprays/foams that will work on termites and carpenter ants, but this bait is not what you want.

A:  yes you can put it by trees. it is poison! it is not safe for human or dogs, if they are going to eat the pellets.

                by|Jul 9, 2020

A:  Yes, just spread it around the nest entrance. It takes maybe a couple of weeks depending on how fast the ants find it and take it home. I poured a perimeter around my house 2 years ago and haven't seen carpenter ants since. I don't know how toxic it might be if a child handled it but don't know why you'd need to spread it around your yard. It works best at the nest entrance and with some ants it works overnight. I've used AMDRO for 20 years in the Pacific NW and in the Carolinas and it always works.

                by|Jul 11, 2020

A:  Product should be fine around the trees. Have put it near bushes and other growth with no ill effects. Product works very well. From the web about pet and kid safety: AMDRO Bait is not pet or child safe and should be applied carefully around yards. Usually, a few hours after application, it's okay to let pets and children outside. You should watch them so they don't eat, lick, or touch the granules.

                by|Jul 8, 2020

A:  Hello, Amdro Ant Block can be applied around trees that you see have ants. As long as the application directions are followed we would not expect any harm to children. We do recommend you apply the product when children and pets are not around. Thank you.

A:  First, I hope the A440 is a reference to a tuning note. The product is safe to use around trees It may not be used in a vegitable garden. Do not use when the ground is wet or it may get wet in the next 24 hours. As per their web site "The active ingredient in Amdro Ant Block Home Perimeter Ant Bait is hydramethylnon, which has very low toxicity to people, animals and birds. When used according to the label we wouldn't expect any problems to your dogs."

A:  The little grains of ant killer remain on the ground for a long time. I would read the product information carefully to determine if and when it is safe to release pets into a treated area. The product's website states the following: Is it safe for my dogs or pets to play in the grass after I apply this product? The active ingredient in Amdro Ant Block Home Perimeter Ant Bait is hydramethylnon, which has very low toxicity to people, animals and birds. When used according to the label we wouldn't expect any problems to your dogs.

A:  Logically, It is not safe it is poison! The pellets would have to be completely dissolved, which also means it would be time to reapply it. If you want a pet friendly solution this is not it.

                    by|Jun 11, 2020

A:  It’s really only truly safe after the granules are either all dissolved/eaten of if they are hidden from the pets.

A:  As per their web site. " Children and pets can only return to the treated area after the dusts have settled when applying the granular product."

A:  I would be very careful about letting a pet be outside by itself and have them come in contact with the product. As long as you are watching your pet I don't think it is a problem. You might contact the company direct.

A:  Per: https://www.amdro.com/all-products/ant-block-home-perimeter-ant-bait-granules "Designed to surround your home with a band of protection, this dual-action bait attracts and kills multiple common ant species. On top of that, it keeps working for up to three months. Foraging worker ants think the bait is food and carry it back to their colonies. Shared with other ants, including the queen, its ant-killing power goes to work. Expect to see fewer ants within a week, and the colony destroyed within a month." I usually reapply if the infestation is heavy and I see the ants return before the three months.

A:  I usually use the Ortho Outdoor home defense spray all around the foundation of the house. Then I use the ant block about two weeks later. I usually do the ant block once a year and home defense twice a year. So far it’s kept the ants away.

A:  Amdro Ant Block Home Perimeter Ant Bait is effective in the control of 25 species of ants including: Acrobat ants, Allegheny mound ants, Argentine ants, Bigheaded ants, Black turf ants, Carpenter ants, Citronella ants, Cornfield ants, Crazy ants, Field ants, Fire ants (imported and native), Ghost ants, >>> Harvester ants, <<< Honey ants, Lawn ants, Little black ants, Nuisance ants, Odorous house ants, Pavement ants, Pharaoh ants, Pyramid ants, Southern ants, Thief ants, White-footed ants and the Texas leafcutting ant. Do not use this product in combination with a 'quick kill' insectiside. It relies on ants bringin the Granules back to the nest to kill the queen. If you spray another ant killer, then you have no workers to bring the bait back to the nest. So some patience is required, but it does work. The best strategy seems to be apply the granules around the outside the house, use bait traps near ant lines and keep kitchen floors scrupulously clean, vacuum under appliances often, and only spray when you see an infestation in the house, and then, only the infestation.

Q:I'm going to use this product in a new flowerbed. Obviously I need to wait for the ants to be eradicated to use this product, but how long should I wait before planting in other words, does residual product negatively alter the soil so that new plants can't grow or will be negatively affected? Just flowers and shrubs, not edibles.

A:  I think it will be fine, but if you are worried give the manufacturer a call. Its safe for new lawns. It did not kill my flowers nor my ants. There are some "do not's". No wet ground, not with rain coming within 24 hours, not in direct sunlight. I bought this for carpenter ants. My New York ants had no interest in this product at at. They would not touch it and it had no affect on their population.

A:  I have not seen this happen to have to wait to plant. Just put it out around the perimeter of your flower garden and house/garage and also around tool sheds, etc.

A:  it says not for garden use, but I’ve never seen any negative impact on my plants. I think it’s more for edible gardening. I treated with ant block and planted some new shrubs (gardenias) about a week later. Plants are doing fine. Just be sure to wear gloves when you plant to avoid any skin reaction if you do come into contact with the granules.

A:  Hi Nika, The Amdro Home Perimeter Ant Bait can be used in a flower bed or ornamental garden areas. Please do not use this product on vegetable or other food crops. When used as directed, we would not expect it to alter the soil. Thank you.

A:  The product is designed to be gathered up by the worker ants and fed to the queen. This is why the ground can't be wet or get wet 24 hours after application. You can plant as soon as the workers have had time to take the bait to the queen. I would wait a few days.
