Q:Can this 16/2 be used on line voltage 110v-120V to power 5 LED lights which use less than 8 Watts per light, 40 watts total?

A:  I hooked up 6 LED up lights at 10 watts each and according to my math, I could add 10 more lights based on the length (over 100 ft.) with the transformer I bought. The transformer will give you a calculation on size of wire to use based on total length of wire needed and wattage (lights) you plan to hook up.

A:  yes it can take the load fine. But that is low voltage wire and should only be used on like 12 volt dc lights

          by|Jan 14, 2022

A:  It can handle the load. but this is low voltage wire for 12 volt DC. It shouldn't be used on 120 volt AC

A:  It actually depends on your transformer. The Guage of wire really depends on how long the wire will be from the transformer. If you have a longer run, using higher Guage wire may result in voltage drop. I have about 15 lights out front on 1 transformer. Most are pretty close to my house. The longest run I have is by the curb. I used 16/2 wire and t'd it off. The transformer plugged into the outlet is over 100 watts. Seems to work fine. I've had them out for 4 years now.

            by|Jan 10, 2022

A:  This is low voltage cable. Must connect with a low voltage transformer.

It first arrived as an anonymous package left by the door. Opening the flaps revealed the dark spiral of wire, it's dull black sheath standing in contrast to the every day brown of the packaging. In the laboratory, stripping the ends of the cable freed the bright, twisted strands. The tiny strings of copper glistened in the warm T8 LED glow of the overhead lamps. I felt an immediate connection - was required the the low voltage transformer. A suitable yard lamp was acquired; the teeth of is connecting jaws sank effortlessly into the soft flesh of the cable. Connections were completed at the transformer, screws tightened securely. With the firm confidence of a technician, I switched the power on. Success! The electrons furiously crowded the dark cased highway of copper and instantly converted their exuberance into the lamp's soft glow. Soon other lamps would bite into that dark highway of energy and begin their service as shining sentinels stationed along the winding flower bed.
