excellent until...
Bought this unit to spray a ceiling with a pulled stucco finish. Set up was fine, follow the instructions and the unit was up and spraying in no time. Worked excellent for my purpose any issue where due to my own inexperience in spraying (over spray etc...) Then clean up time. I knew it was going to take long and was ready for it but what I wasn't ready for is the ferrule that held the suction filter on the pop out while cleaning. Had the hose adapter screwed in and the whole thing popped out of the clear suction hose. Fortunately it only broke after I was able to get the unit mostly clean and the water coming out was near clear. Would still recommend the unit as I am going to assume I just got unlucky and got a bad hose, and with a little tinkering I should be able to cut off the ferrule and get a hose clamp on it to hold it together.

      very happy
I needed to change a dark trimmed home to white. The primer to seal the dark color was thick and my HVLP could not handle it. The paint manufacturer said to use airless. For less than a two day rental, this sprayer worked great. I did not need full power to get good coverage and it saved me a lot of time. Never clogged.

Loved the painter the ONE time it worked for me. Never could get it to get prime after that. There was a 5 month time period between uses.

          good for one use only
when it works its awesome problem is it only worked once. i cleaned it thoroughly make sure all the rings were properly greased. nothing is sticking and it primes just fine. but it never builds enough pressure to get a good spray. the pump continually runs and never builds pressure. there are no leaks anywhere everything looks like it should. guess its just a dud. do yourself a favor and get a different unit.

I’m sorry to hear you are having issues with your Wagner ProCoat. Typically if the sprayer primes very well but does not build pressure there is something wrong in your outlet valve. The outlet valve is on the front of the unit where the spray hose screws on. Remove the spray hose, and then the male fitting the hose screwed onto the unit through can be removed using an adjustable wrench. That fitting will allow you to remove the outlet valve. The outlet valve has three o-rings: 1) The first is wrapped around the body of the outlet valve. 2) The second is small – maybe ¼” in diameter and will be pressed into the flat metal disc on the end of the valve. 3) The third o-ring is inside of this metal valve. To see it, you’ll need to remove the metal disc that the second o-ring is sitting on. The metal disc has four u-shaped notches around the outside of it; using a small screw driver, nail, or other sharp pointed tool you should be able to pry the metal disc out of the valve using those u-shaped notches. It is a tight fit but it will come out. Once you remove the disc you will find a small spring with a white plastic poppet, there should be an o-ring on the white plastic poppet. If any of these o-rings are in bad condition, cracked, broken or missing – they’ll cause the unit to lose pressure/suction. If the outlet valve and its o-rings appear to be in good condition, then we’ll need to look at your inlet valve. Using your manual as a guide, remove the inlet valve from the unit. The inlet valve is a spring loaded piece with what looks like a propeller on it – a black four-sided star. There is an o-ring inside of the unit that the inlet valve was sitting on – check to make sure it is in good condition and not cracked, broken, missing etc. Once you have checked the o-ring beneath the inlet valve check the o-ring on the inlet valve by pressing down on the star/spring on the top side of the valve. This will push a white plastic poppet away from the bottom side of the valve. In between the top side of the white poppet, and the circular metal frame of the valve you should find another o-ring. Again, check to make sure that o-ring is in good condition and not cracked, broken, missing etc. If there is a defective part we would certainly look to cover it under warranty, so please call us at (800)328-8251 and we will assist you.
            I love my procoat
I bought my provost about three years ago. Have painted several houses and have had very little trouble ! A little priming problems once in awhile.I found it easy to get parts for. Thinking about getting another one so I can run two at a time!

I'm sorry that you are unhappy with your ProCoat. There are a few things that can cause those units to not prime. If one of the valves were to be sticking closed, that would cause the unit to fail to prime. Please give us a call at 1-800-328-8251 and we can assist in getting that unit operational for you.
                Love it.
Building a new home 3200sq ft. Bought the proCoat and have painted the entire house with 0 problems in 1/2 the time it would have taken me the other way. Spend a little extra time prepping the area (ie: covering and taping) then go to town throwing paint. I would like to see some more accessories a little more available like extensions and a better nozzle assortment. Over all it is one of the best time saving tool I have bought thus far. Price is reasonable too.

                  Awesome product.
I was looking for an easy way to paint my shed and knew I wanted an airless sprayer. Also knew I wanted a Wagner. I've owned a few Wagner handheld sprayers but was going to do a larger project and holding a quart of paint plus sprayer for any length of time wasn't going to work. Looked online for a Wagner airless and found the Procoat. Easy to set up and use. I'll never go back to the old way of painting. Takes longer to clean up than it is to paint. Only thing I'd like to see is a longer hose in the box. 25 foot is nice, 50 foot would be perfect. I thought it was going to use extra paint, it used exactly what I figured it would for my size of project. My project was a 16'x9' shed with hard board siding. Took 25 minutes to paint and 45 minutes to clean sprayer.

Nice attempt but won't last more than one spray job for anything other than stain.
I have attempted to use this ProCoat sprayer with several different coatings of various viscosities all rated to be used with this size spray tip. Unfortunately the only material that it can handle is something close to the viscosity of water, like stain. If you attempt to use anything thicker it will be unable to maintain suction out of your supply container and you will only get frustrated. Maybe it should be renamed the StainCoat or OneCoat (as in a viscosity of 1).

I’m sorry to hear that you had issues with your ProCoat. That pump should be able to handle materials up through a mid-thickness latex, but thicker examples may cause the valves to wear out more quickly. Unless you are using an incredibly thick paint, the ProCoat should not have any issues priming or maintaining suction unless something else is causing an issue. Since it does sound like you were making sure to use compatible materials, there may have been something wrong with one of the valves. Please give us a call at 1-800-328-8251 so that we can assist in getting your ProCoat up and running again.

great product, easy to use for a first time user
I have never used a paint sprayer before and all I can say is WOW. Painted the inside of my 2 car garage in no time! Easy to follow startup guide had me painting within 15 minutes out of the box. Cleanup does take some time but probably no more time than cleanup using a roller or brush. As fast as you can paint with this product it was well worth the money.

this sprayer is not worth purchasing. Worked fine the first use. Cleaned it according to directions oiled up and put it away. A month later tried to start my second project, uhh what a waste of time did maybe 1 hour of painting and 6 hours of messing with this thing trying to get it to prime and paint.. What a waste of time.

I'm sorry to read you have had an issue with your ProCoat. Please give us a call as your unit does carry a 1 year warranty. More than likely something has happened with one of your valves - inlet valve or outlet valve. Usually they are just slightly plugged up with dry paint and need to be removed using the directions in the manual, cleaned and lubricated. If that doesn't help, we would then be checking for a bad seal/o-ring on one of the valves. We would be happy to assist you if you would like help.WagnerSprayTech

No suction out of the box...
Purchased the unit about 6 months ago as I knew I would have some projects coming up. Just opened the unit and followed all instructions. It seems like it would be a good sprayer; however, the unit does not suck up anything. I cannot get it to even suck up a can of water...their is simply zero suction. Nothing is clogged as suggested...might just have to move to another brand that is more reliable.

I'm sorry to read you are having trouble with your new ProCoat. You may have a stuck valve which can prevent the unit from building suction. Make sure the prime/spray knob is pointing all the way over to the word "prime" and press the red button at the top of your suction tube a few times in and out while the unit is running in prime position. If you need help troubleshooting, please give us a call at 1-800-328-8251 and we'll be happy to assist you.
Do not buy this sprayer. Poorly made.
I bought this sprayer to paint the inside of my 40 x 60 shed. This is now the second one of these sprayers I have owned. Set up was very easy. Primed the lines and had everything ready to spray in a matter of minutes. The sprayer worked very good for about 3 hrs. I noticed that the motor continually ran longer and longer to pressurize the system until it would no longer pressurize and would not spray. I took it back to the store and they gave me a replacement. The second sprayer broke after only 1-1/2 of spraying. Same problem.

I'm sorry to read that you had issues using our Wagner ProCoat sprayer. If you had the same problem with two different units, make sure that the paint you are using matches the specs of the unit you are using. Some paints technically may be too thick to be used with this sprayer and will strip the o-rings on the valves. Check with the manufacturer of your paint and make sure it is appropriate to spray this paint with a 0.015" spray tip or smaller. If they recommend a larger spray tip, the sprayer is not rated to be used with your paint. Typically if you lose the ability to build pressure, there is an issue with the o-rings on either your inlet or outlet valve. Check the o-rings, make sure they are clean and in good condition, and also lubricate them. If you need further assistance please call us at 1-800-328-8251.
                            Excellent value
Bought a procoat recently and just used for its first job, repainting the front of our local seniors club. The unit performed flawlessly and did a fantastic job, saved time and used less paint than brush and roller would have. It's compact, light, quiet, and handled undiluted premium latex perfectly. I do agree with those who say you must read the manual carefully SEVERAL times before using, and be meticulous when cleaning up. I have read some peoples complaints about this unit and it appears to me they first did not take the time to thoroughly learn how to set it up and use it properly, and second thought that the clean up was too long and difficult. All I can say is I took the time to fully understand the unit, saved at least two hours of rolling and brushing, got a perfect result, and did not mind taking a half hour to carefully clean it afterwards! This tool is a gem at its price point, and should be very carefully cleaned after use, AND OILED AS PER THE MANUAL. good tools are only good as long as you know how to use them properly, and you take care of them properly. Good job Wagner.

Just bought it this summer. Tried it for the first time on an old shed that needed painting. Followed the instructions and everything worked fine. Cleaned it up and put it away for a month. 2nd attempt: Got it out, Primed it and then tried to get the paint flow out the gun. Nothing came out. Checked primeing again, that was working. Started cleaning the suggested parts before calling Tech support. Cleaned the input valve and then checked the gun filter. When I was putting the filter back in I noticed that I had installed it upside down in the gun. Glad I checked some parts before calling tech support!!!! Put it back together ands it worked great!!!! My suggestion would be go SLOW the first few times read and check the instructions. Next test will be the first time after the winter.

                                Has worked great for me
Ive has this sprayer over a year now and have painted about 20 units approx 1300 sq ft each. Ive only had to replace some minor parts (about 50$) and its still pumping paint. Helps to add a little water as the thicker the paint the harder the motor works and the longer it takes to get a good prime.

I did a lot of research before I purchased this sprayer... I was amazed with the quality of the spray. I've never used a sprayer in my life and I had high hopes for painting my house. Sure enough, my house was painted 2 days later! The paint sprayer worked better than I expected. This unit can be great or it can be terrible
The intake valve is almost impossible to remove without breaking it. if there is a trick, it's not in the book. The plastic intake removal tool is poorly designed, I missed the part about what the notches in the end are for because they don't allow for clearing the spring stop on the intake valve. The unit should come with a viscosity gauge, a little too thick and there is no draw or intermittent draw. Throw away plastic covering for the unit would help in clean-up and the draw tube is too stiff. I can go on but won't. But..... if the planets are aligned and you click your heels just the right way and you've run out of expletives to describe your experience it works great! it really does for a while, maybe oh great there it goes again.....running great!

Most wagner painting products work well but not this one! Bought this sprayer because i have used the older version of this sprayer and it did ok for the money. But no matter how fast or slow at any pressure this sprayer will not put on a even coat of paint. Used it to primer three bedrooms and took it back and got the Graco X5 for a little more money and it paints like a dream. Had to back roll everything I painted with the wagner and didnt hardley touch a roller with the X5.

Please give us a call in this type of situation. It sounds as if the tip or filter in the gun were possibly not the right size for what you were trying to spray. Some materials may require different tips or filters than what comes with your sprayer. Which tips and filters should be used can usually be found on the back of the can of paint you are planning to spray. Make sure your equipment matches the specifications from the paint manufacturer. If they don't match, the results can be spitting, clogging, or bad spray patterns. Please give us a call at 1-800-328-8251 if you ever need help troubleshooting.WagnerSprayTech

                                      Terrible Design
This thing is terrible. First of all paint spilled all over the place from the hose. Second once it got going it over sprayed so much that my entire garage floor was covered with paint dust. I then tried the least powerful setting and it did the exact same thing! This thing is terrible. Going to return it and get my money back.

I'm sorry you were dissatisfied with the Wagner ProCoat. I'm not sure exactly which hose paint spilled from, but if it was the spray hose leading to the gun, make sure to snuggly tighten both ends with a wrench prior to using. As for the spray, this is a high pressure sprayer that will spray large volumes of paint. High pressure sprayers will have overspray and thus you should prepare for it. Make sure to cover nearby items that you do not want paint on.WagnerSprayTech

You get what you pay for, a decent machine.
I feel as though it's a genuine product for the money. It's hard to go wrong. Has your typical features, however one in particular does fall a bit short as brought up by a few people here. The priming function is not quite "as advertised". Simply put, it doesn't work too well without a little help. And also a little mess in the process. Call it laws of fluid dynamics, call it poor design, but at the end of the day in order to get the machine primed you generally need to fill the supply/suction tube up with material and proceed to prime. Once material is flowing, you can put it back into your bucket of material and it has no problem. Beyond that, strong and fluid spray that's adjustable to the job, sprays a majority of paints/stains etc. and really does a wonderful job. Simple enough process to clean and lube, more than anything a little bit to get used to before it makes complete sense. Can be a bit messy!

Waste of money...home depot should stop selling this!
Thought this was a great idea to paint a rental instead of rolling out the entire house. I followed all instructions exactly, reread instructions multiple times... I got it to prime once and spray one room. The pump started to fail and couldn't get it to prime, not even with water! I got a full refund from HD and purchased the Graco X5. I have done the entire interior of the house in just a few hours now and am very pleased with the Graco model. Wagner is cheap and waste of your time. For those that will comment that it was user error...the Graco has exactly the same instructions and it worked flawlessly so it really proves Wagner failed on their development with the procoat.
