22 years and still working great.
We had 3 of the rigid sun tunnels put in over 22 years ago. They are still working great. Love them, especially on cloudy days. Works on starry nights as well.

Much Improved well lit environment
Installed 6 rigid Sun Tunnels in my super dark ranch style house. I liked my home before now I love it! Well lit all through the house now. I followed the instructions and did not throw away the screw covers for the ceiling and the new contemporary design looks very nice. Not sure why there were bad reviews on this. Lots of compliments. The natural color light gives colors their true shades. Added electric light kits and Solar night LED lights. Could not be happier. And it qualified for the new 30% solar tax credit.

We just got done having 2 14” Sun tunnels in our house. The living room was “land locked”, no windows. We now keep thinking we have left a light on.

I love the extra sunlight!
Purchased two of these back in Nov 2017, self installed without any major issues. Love the light they add and love the night light feature. Unfortunately one of the night lights has stopped working after three years. When I pulled it out to inspect I found the battery hold has started to come apart. I looks like the hear has weekend the plastic and the spring holding the batter in place has pushed the plastic end apart. Customer service says I can purchase a whole new light... seems like a design flaw to me. better components should be used to withstand the elements the light is expected to perform in.
The solar tube itself is a good solution for under lit rooms. I was hoping for these to be a long term low maintenance solution.

Fantastic
I specified a solar tube style skylight to be added to my main bathroom which has no natural light (no window) and was always dark until a light was turned on. This 10" Velux is amazingly bright on sunny days and does well on overcast days. This photo is from an overcast day and still lights the room. It also does not collect moisture when showering but I do have an exhaust fan with light but the mirror will fog even with the fan on.

Rechargeable batteries not Impressive
We had two rigid Velux sun tunnels installed in February. The interior work took a couple more months and the batteries were installed in one sun tunnel in May and the second sun tunnel in late October. The sun tunnels provided great light during the evening but the batteries in both sun tunnels failed by mid November. Very unsatisfied with this. The ceiling is 14’ high and having to change out with new batteries so soon is not what we expected.

14 tunnels in! And a question...
Ok, I have gone sun tunnel crazy! Have an unusually large single floor house and have put in 14 sun tunnels with 6 or 7 to go. Am in love with the light! One thing is driving me crazy...it is extremely difficult to get the clear ceiling covers off before install, then back n after install. I see that there a seal and it seems to make the covers impossible to get on. Any tips or tricks? I'm killing my grip and am on high ladders for some (not great footing). When unboxing I've figured out that I need to break the seal all around by gently pulling cover away from ring before trying to remove. Any tips to help would be appreciated...have so many to get up and on. Once this is done I'll be good to go and an extremely happy customer!

Good light, poor reveal
Had a new rigid tunnel installed along with roof a few weeks ago. The sun tunnel adds a much needed influx of natural light to my livingroom but as many other reviews note the diffuser ring inside looks very cheap and has screws visible through it. Most of the pictures I had seen before getting it showed a white trim ring that sits flush to the ceiling and covers all of the hardware underneath, this one is nothing but clear plastic that all of the mounting hardware is visible through and it sits up off the ceiling creating a bit of a halo effect around it. I'm happy to have the light in my room but wish it looked more clean and professional on the interior.

Happy to have more natural light.
We had three sun tunnels installed by a five star installer. Cost of the project was just shy of $5000. Wish I would have investigated a bit more before proceeding. The trim rings allow you to see the four mounting screws. Called customer service and they said someting about white tape to cover the screws. The highest unit is about 15 feet in the air and has about 9 dead bugs in it. Thought these would have been sealed better. I have not removed them yet because now I need to buy a 12 foot step ladder to service this unit. We had a electric light install in another and it is a florescent buld with an odd base connector. The contractor removed an existing can light and tossed the fixture into the attic while using it as a junction box. Not sure I would call that upto code or expected of a five star installer. The trim rings are also difficult to remove as there is not much to grip onto to rotate the ring off.

LOVE these skylights
A month ago we had three of tube lights installed in a dark living space of our new home. That area had windows only on one side and felt gloomy. I absolutely love these skylights. The space is bathed in light now. Every time I in, I smile. The picture doesn't do it justice!

I have a construction background but anyone with reasonable skills and YouTube should be able to manage

Great love it
About a year ago we had the Sun Tunnel installed and love it. Unfortunately, last week we needed to replace the entire roof and the diffuser was lost during reinstalling the tunnel. Can someone tell me how and where I can get another 10 inch diffuser?

Don't turn the bottom ring more than you have to.
This has been installed for about six years now. Getting the bottom ring aligned with the three tabs is a bit of hunt and peck. Perhaps due to the home aging, ours got jammed and you can't see the alignment. I finally removed it with a little silicone spray and put tiny Sharpie marks on the edges and ceiling to show me when the tabs are aligned for removal. And you don't need to turn them more than a few degrees to secure it. Don't over-rotate!
The light is great. Its like having a 200 watt bulb in that previously dim hallway. But if not sealed properly, you do have to periodically open it up to clean out the dead bugs.

Simple way to bring in lighting!
Only issue is the flashing! Cause is a dorm so water will flow in from the side. Normally side flashing are covered by composition shingles so tend to forget to do better seal.

Feeling Sad
I purchased a Velux Skylight for kitchen . Yet to be installed. I purchase 4 of the 22 inches flexible sun tunnels as I was super excited to have 3 in the hall way and 1 in the addition on the second floor. To my sad surprise, 2 installers came out and they both could not install even one in the hallway. One of them said he will try to install a 14 rigid maybe in the hallway. TRY. I hope I am not stuck with 3 Sun tunnels unopened . They costed me an arm and a leg. Unfortunately the Truss does not have place for installation.
I so much wish someone can find a way to install Atleast ONE in the hallway for sure.

Great Natural Light
We installed a Sun Tunnel 15 years ago when no one knew what they were! We were removing a window from a bathroom and I wanted natural light! It’s still perfect, but I see the night light, and different diffuser patterns and am extremely interested in those. I would install all over again if I were doing project now. Saw them a few months ago not realizing that had been in obscurity for so long!!! Thanks Venus!

sun tunnel rating
We have install 2 sun tunnels, and waiting to install the 3rd. They are the rigid pitched 14" unit. I can understand if ours are hurricane rated. the 2 installed have been through 3 hurricanes with no problem. Are they hurricane rated?? The TMZ roof mount is our next approach which are flat. I wish I would have known this before I bought the here in florida

Love the light!
I installed 3 rigid sun tunnels in my mid century modern house. One in the walk-in closet and two in the master bathroom. We don't turn the lights on in the house till the sun sets. I highly recommend.

Lots of insects
I have had two of the skylights installed in my den but after a couple of years I noticed lots of dead insects laying on the diffuser. Apparently they are not sealed well enough and small insects get in them and eventually die on the diffuser. Very unsightly!
The installation manual does not show how to remove the diffuser so I can clean it. Please give me some guidance.

Thank you for your review! These little bugs can get through the tiniest of openings to get towards the light. Please ensure that all screw heads, holes or tubing seams are covered with aluminum tape to prevent other insects from getting into the tubing.
Please email us @ vcustomer.service@velux.com for instructions on how to remove the trim ring and diffuser to clean that area of that debris.

Let there be light
I was a little skeptical when our roofer suggested it but OmG , it saved money in the long run. Almost never having to turn lights on walking down long hall, and all the natural light was amazing. Ended up adding three total and the laundry one was my favorite. If your adding a new roof, they’re a must. Thank you.

Lens and fastener problems
Had sun tubes up for multiple years and lenses have become very cloudy and crazed. Screws holding the lens on, rusted.

Beware
We had two installed in living area and it is like a fluorescent light. Much too harsh for a living area. I would recommend for a laundry room or work area only. The company does not offer tinted diffusers so we place tissue paper over the diffuser to soften that harsh fluorescent light. Now the diffusers are warped and the cover rings don’t fit properly.

In terms of light appearance, we offer six decorative diffuser film options for current model VELUX Sun Tunnels. Adding a decorative diffuser will increase interior aesthetics and visual appeal.
We would recommend that you add the Neutral Light Diffuser Film as this will help you achieve the lighting that you desire in that living space. The Neutral Light Diffuser Film is tinted to offer a warm light, similar to most artificial light bulbs, as opposed to the natural white daylight offered by the standard Sun Tunnel kits. Installed four Sun Tunnels
We just replaced three old sun tunnels that were installed prior to us moving into our home over 20 years ago (two 14 inch flexible tunnels in the living room and one 10 inch rigid tunnel in the guest bathroom with 24 inch extension). We bought them through Home Depot and had them professionally installed. We love the new sun tunnels so much that we added one more 14 inch flexible to our newly remodeled kitchen. The three 14 inch sky tunnels are in vaulted ceilings and the 10 inch bathroom tunnel goes through the attic. I love the inside trim that is flush to the ceiling giving it a much more finished look than the old ones. I don't see any hardware from the inside through the plastic moulding. The exterior low profile flashing looks great as well. I love the bright sunlight coming into our home and I don't think the natural light is blue like other reviews have stated. We are very satisfied and will enjoy these new skylights for many years to come.

Love my Sun Tunnel
When I was replacing roofs, I purchased a total of 4 of these for 2 of my houses. The roofers did the roof part and I installed the inside myself. As a female I found it incredibly easy, but I am a diy girl. In my house, my kitchen is now bright and beautiful. My living room, well it was my placement of it that i wish i would have changed, because of my attic walking space, but it still gives a lot of light into the dark side of my living room. We hardly turn on any lights now. At my other house we are coming down to the 1st floor, but wish there was an add on or small section that could be added to the tunnel itself to add just a bit of light to the hallway upstairs. The tube will be covered, not visible but would love to have just a small bit of that natural light to come thru there as well. Love my lights

Great Light but how do i remove debris from tube
I've had great experiences with your product but I now have debris in the tube and I have a very simplified that shows how to remove the "beauty ring" but not the difuser.

Once the trim ring is removed, there may be 3 or more little tabs that hold the diffuser assembly upwards in that ceiling assembly. Loosen those screws only slightly to push those tabs out of the way. (some sun tunnels have them, some do not)
You may need to take a small, flat (or common) screwdriver to work the gasket and diffuser out from the assembly. Use a little Vasoline on the tip of the screwdriver to make this process a bit easier.
Once you have that completed, you will need to check to see if the Sun Tunnel tubing in the attic space has any exposed seams, holes, tears or screw heads exposed. If you find those uncovered, please use aluminum tape to seal those areas.
If you have a flexible tubing model-You may also want to check to see that the snap ring (ring that attaches tunnel to exterior & interior components) on both ends of the tunnel are secure. This will prevent any bugs or dirt from getting into that tubing space again.

Love the light
We installed 5 sun tunnels about a year ago and have loved the light. In a previous house I had two of a competitor's models and I NEVER had any bugs get into the tube ( after 8 years). That's my only complaint about the Velux model..........we have had them cleaned and retaped twice since installation and they need it again! My husband and I do not do ladders, so I have to call the installation company to come clean them. I think it is a design flaw. The last time they came they told us there had been some defective tape and they retaped each unit. No change. And the bugs are like wasp sized, not tiny little bugs. I so wish this could be corrected,because otherwise I adore the light they provide and the overall improvement to the house. The installation company has been super, but I think Velux needs to look into it.

Insects should not be entering your Sun Tunnels. The first step is always to check for any exposed seams, holes, or screw heads. If found, reseal the exposed areas with VELUX aluminum tape, as you have done already. You may also want to check to see that the snap ring (ring that attaches tunnel to exterior & interior components) on both ends of the tunnel are secure.
