The door is designed well
The only problem is that there is some rust showing already (have just received it late last week and not installed yet but still in shipping container until today) where the lockset metal halves come together and one blemish on a bar where it is welded. Can you send me some free touch up paint? It seems every door I order has had some cosmetic defects. The (expensive) vinyl sliding door I ordered recently (5 ft made in China) had silicone smeared on the windows and door frame. This is poor quality control for finish. It took me a lot of effort to remove it.

Well worth the money.....
Best one anywhere for the price, strong and sturdy.. It's reversible meaning the door can be installed to be opened from the left or the right side (whatever side you put the deadbolt / knob set), BUT once installed it will only open on the side with the deadbolt / knob set , other side does not open... Double Cylinder Deadbolts are recommended !!!

Not a Security door lacks lock shield.
We bought 4 of these for our weekend home after a burglary...THE DOOR LACKS A LOCK SHIELD=ANYBODY CAN STICK THEIR HAND IN AND UN-SCREW THE DEADBOLT SCREWS AND PULL OUT LOCK CYLINDER AND OPEN THE DOOR. Not very pleased. Spend $1200 + install cost and they do not protect the house...

The Su Casa Patio Security Door is available with an expanded metal screen to further enhance security. If allowed by local fire codes, we also recommend utilizing a double cylinder deadbolt for maximum security.

    Reasonable option
We really like these. These seem secure and look nice enough. They did require a fair amount of modification to get it to work for our application - which seems like a basic generic patio door. I highly recommend that you set up the door on shims (2x4 or books) and trial the door before you start drilling holes and installing your one way screws. If you find you need to make cuts, drill out holes, weld or reframe your door, it will be much easier to do this with the security door not partially installed. Cycle your glass, screen and security doors with door knob and lock installed to see if everything works. Make sure you can use a key and reach the knob from the inside as well as the outside. Pros: Available - only DIY prefab option I could find Looks sturdy Will deter most criminals Will prevent small kids from sneaking out the back door unnoticed when deadbolt is engaged One man install very doable Allows you to open the back door and let your house air out while still having a locked door. With small modification to deter pry attack, this setup is far more secure than original glass door. Cons: My install required me to cut and reweld/reinforce 4 tabs to allow door knob to clear the screen door. The door knob was just shy of mounting firmly on the security door since knob mount is on thin side. Some areas needed repainting. Screws require special tool, or a large screwdriver and lots of patience. Shipping not inexpensive Poor protection against pry attack If you don't have the option to weld, installation would be more difficult. I suppose you can make spacers out of 2x4s or metal tubing or maybe reframe your entire door. You can also give up on your screen door or cut the inside door knob off so that it clears your screen door (or an outside tract glass door if you have one of these). Rewelding and reinforcing allowed me to redo some of the less attractive welds.

    Built well, finished pooly
Well built, Unfortunately, can see thru the paint, so wasn't painted well. Also missing the plastic covers for the top and bottom of the vertical mechanical tubing. Also a few holes drilled by the welds. Don't know why. Also, some of the welding rod is still connected to the door. The existing screen door hits a normal door knob, so you need to build the wall the door is mounted to out farther if you choose to use a normal door knob.

A good deal for the price
This door was exactly what I wanted to add protection, at comparatively low cost, to my French doors that open to a deck. However be aware that the website description of the door that states '..both doors open to allow...' is incorrect. One of the doors is bolted or screwed to the outside wall and once installed cannot be opened. However the door extends out from the wall several inches and you can easily reach through the bars if you need access what is behind the stationary door.

THERE ARE NO SCREENS SO ITS NOT A SECURITY SCREEN
Unless you use a double deadbolt OR spend MORE money this product is stupid. You can reach between the bars and unlock it.

Good investment to protect your home
Great value, I always felt like a forced entry through a glass door would be too easy. This patio door gives me peace of mind and makes my family feel safer at home and away. For people who are worried about cosmetics just remember broken glass is much more unattractive.

Unreliable handling by Home Depot. Save your money!
The product itself is not bad, but parts were missing when it arrived so instead of waiting another month for the missing parts we went to another store to get the parts they neglected to send.

    not quite as advertised
The door is nice, but is NOT hinged in the middle to allow access to both sides, as advertised. It is, and must be, firmly anchored on one side with the other one able to open. The door itself is sturdy, which is expected, and looks nice, but we were unpleasantly surprised to discover the scroll work is not the same quality as the rest of the door and will bend rather easily. Still, it does what it was bought to do, so that's the important thing. Still, it would be awfully nice to be able to wash the outside of the stationary half of the sliding glass door a bit more easily!

    NO metal screen included
I was very disappointed that this security door DID NOT come with a metal screen because when it was installed you could simply reach in and unlock the "security door" so we had to buy two seperate and expensive aluminum sides for the right and left side so that an intruder could not unlock the door. POORLY designed but worked after our modification.

    Much better than first thought
First one arrived damaged, but was little problem refusing delivery and waiting for another one. Just be sure to check it over before accepting as it really could be packaged better. Anyhow, when I first set it up I actually thought it seemed a little less robust than expected. But then I started checking out other people's security doors and soon realized that it was right in line with the norm. It even seems to have a better paint job and closer bars than most. I soon began to see that my 300 dollar security door is nicer than most 1000 dollar custom installs. Hooray! It went up without any issues. I was able to do the install with no helper. I suggest you take your time and get everything nice and plumb. Two bigs words of advice, OVER DRILL the pilot holes to make the security bolts go in easily and, most importantly, install it with regular removable screws FIRST. Then after it is all set and plumb and just the way you like it held in by only removable screws, do the following one screw / hole / bolt at a time: Remove a screw, pilot drill out the hole and install a security bolt - one by one. This made it so easy to do by myself. You may even want to coat the security bolts with silicone. They will go in easier and not come out easily once the silicone sets. Plus it protects the holes from water. Security bolts are unforgiving. They can break, won't come back out without damage and are a one time use kinda device. A larger pilot hole, getting the bolts in the correct spot the first time and a little silicone lube makes them no problem My door is more secure, square, plumb and level than anyone else's I have seen. The paint job looks nicer too with the little wrinkle job they do and the bars are close enough to prevent kids from fitting through. All in all, I am very satisfied!

    Durable structure, material, and workmanship
Installation was very easy. Had to build a support frame due to the age of the building, otherwise no problems.

    easy installation, nice looking
We're happy with this security door. It deters potential break-in but doesn't look "confined". Installation was straightforward. Negative point: delivery service was not punctual.

    What's the point
How can this be a "security" door with no screen? Just reach through the bars and unlock it. Shipping took forever. Would not recommend this product.

      Great value for money
I am very pleased with these gates. I needed extra security for my french doors after having two break-ins in a month. Installation would have been easier if the instructions had said to use a 1/4inch drill bit, not the 3/16ths they tell you to use which is too small and impossible to get the screws in. But all in all a great product at a great price!

Very disappointed when I received my door. 1st you wait 4-5 weeks to receive it. The packaging was poor for truck delivery. All componets were not in the box and the paint job was unsatisfactory.Areas were unpainted and would have rusted. One good note if everything was right the door looked wonderful against the house.
