One of the best mowers in it's class available!
This mower was easily assembled in 15 minutes counting the oil & gas. The recommended setting of 3 for deck height is correct and as stated by the manufacturer was only placed on the first setting because of shipping. One rater stated the direction for on/off of the fuel was hard to distinguish, however a sticker on the side of the engine clearly shows position. If you tighten all bolts properly this mower holds itself together well and even comes with lock nuts, which typically do not fail. My mower came with some oil in the engine, so pay careful attention to how much you put in initially. The only down side I have with this mower is the fact that a change has been made to the self-choke on the engine and it does not stay in place like previous Honda engines did (I've owned several). This is a very well thought out and built lawnmower that does what it was intended to do. If you are like me and prefer a no frills mower this is the one for you!

Great for first time homeowners
This lawnmower has what it takes to get your yard looking great. Basic features, no frills or anything to distract first time owners. Simple and easy to use after adding the included engine oil and minor assembly (just a few screws). Has the power to cut through the thickest of grass without dying out, also works great on uneven terrain. Once you figure the right height to set the lawnmower your set. Which maybe an inconvenience since you have to use a wrench and remove the bolt to adjust the height on each wheel. But I don't mind, once I set the height I wanted. Other lawnmowers i've had, had adjustable height wheels and always seem to give out at any given time, thus I prefer this method for just normal weekly lawn care. The appearance of our lawn after, made our yard look professionally done, compared to our neighbors. Smooth even height across the yard, grass clippings weren't lying around the yard in clumps, left a great looking yard.

What I wanted in a mower.
Used over a month. Kept in mulch mode, engine rarely slows.Starting tip, hold choke lever a second or two before releasing,I was just flicking it at first and it wouldn't start.Good quality, great motor, at 60 pounds.I don't have a lush lawn, partly wooded.

Everything you need
This Southland mower is a very basic lawn mower but if you're like me it is exactly what I prefer. It is a separate oil and gas tank so you don't have to mess with mixing the fuel, pull start works great, and a 21" deck which is about as big as a non-commercial mower goes. The height adjustment isn't the greatest but I almost never adjust that so its not a big deal. The mower is solidly built and I have no reason to believe it wouldn't last season after season.

Not too many features but great value for money
This is a basic push from behind mower that is being offered at $199 so I wasn't expecting all the bells & whistles. But overall, this mower offers great value for money. Southland makes good quality products, and Honda arguably makes the best engines. 1+1=2. I was surprised when the mower arrived as I was expecting a larger shipping package. I thought the package was nice & compact. It comes with proper manuals and engine oil. Note: Fill up engine oil before use as the mower is shipped completely dry. After installing the wheels and handle, the motor started with no issues. The 160cc Honda produced the average noise level you would expect. As others mention, the mowing height cannot be adjusted easily, so you have to unbolt the wheel and select another pre-drilled location to adjust the mowing height as needed. Not an easy process but doable if ever required. I've only had this mower for a week and used it on a small 20ft x 20ft area, so I really cannot evaluate its long term performance. But I truly believe this is a quality product that is built to last.

Honda Engine, And Made In The USA!
This mower comes with a Honda engine, and the mower is made in the USA! Nobody today makes small engines like Honda, and they are the absolute best! This mower is built tough. It lacks a quick method for adjusting mowing height, but really, how often are you going to change that? Most people set it for what they prefer and leave it at that height. It can be changed, by undoing the wheel bolts and putting them into another hole, so it is still possible. The mower housing is thick and all steel, and should take a lot of abuse for a very long time. They include oil with the mower, because the engine is shipped without oil, so be sure to put oil in it before starting it. The engine is a 4-cycle, which is very nice in my opinion, so no mixing of oil & gas is needed. I put oil in the engine, added gas, and this sweet little Honda engine fired up on the first pull. The engine runs great, like all Honda engines do! Assembly was straight-forward and simple: put the wheels on, attach the handle, and you're ready to go. I've spent far more money than this sells for, for really junky mowers in the past, so the value of this mower is great for what you pay! And with a Honda engine, it should last you many years with some basic care. I highly recommend this mower to anyone who needs one. Southland makes a great product, and Home Depot delivered it quick! Thanks Southland and Home Depot!

Sorry Can't Recommend
Positives include easy to start pull chain, a fuel valve and gasoline cap. Negatives are many: 1. Oil entry isn’t tilted enough so you have to use a funnel. 2. Fuel valve isn’t clearly marked to show which direction is on/off. 3. Marking on choke isn’t clear or use of it at all. 4. Instructions are less than helpful – took forever to figure out that choke wasn’t needed to start and some directions are in one book and some are in another! 5. Handle doesn’t come assembled and half way through mowing bolts and nuts came off never to be found again so I can’t use the mower. 6. Half way through mowing engine started making grinding noise and the mower is now full of oil and gas so I can’t turn it over to look to see if something is under blade. 7. Mower is heavy and hard to turn. 8. Wheels really dig into grass and leave marks. 9. There is no way to change height of mower unless you painstakingly remove the nuts and bolts and washers on every wheel and put into a different hole. The location of the bolt and nut and the parts of the mower near the wheels makes it very difficult to get the nut on. This is a two person job since you have to lift up and hold the mower while you try and get the nut underneath and onto the short piece of bolt sticking out. Very difficult to do since I was alone. 10. The thin metal bar that needs to be held against the top of the handle to keep engine on cuts into hands after a while. Would be lovey of this was padded… I wish I can tell you that it is a reasonably priced mower that works well and is easy to use. As it is I now have a mower that I can't use until I can find more bolts and nuts and figure out what is making the grinding noise...

Quality built mower at a great price!
This mower comes with a great motor and one of the most well built decks I have seen from this class of mowers. You set the wheels and forget it too, Great! Pull the rope and go, and best yet the mower is built in America!
