I'm redoing and expanding an existing 25 year old deck on our home that we purchased last winter. This is the fourth deck project I've tackled. I purchased 13 of these sleeves. After finishing the framing and installing the 4x4 posts, I tried to install a sleeve. I could slide it on about 3 inches, before the fit was too tight to go further. I tried another sleeve and yet another; same thing. Thinking the posts needed to dry out more, I waited 10 days and tried again. Still couldn't get them on. I was tempted to pound them down with a rubber mallet, but decided to do a google search first. I found a forum with others having the same problem with this particular sleeve. Someone who decided to tap them down said they cracked and splintered several. I saw one other review that mentioned they had to plane down 2 sides to get the sleeve to fit. I don't have the patience to do that to 13 posts. I returned them and got PVC sleeves. They slid right on with no problem.

Slid these over wooden posts that were structurally sound but showing their age. Great upgrade.

Product is well constructed. YOU HAVE TO SHAVE the 4x4 on two sides to allow easier fit.

Hey Tiger, saw your question. My experience with this post sleeve is that, there is enough structural integrity to allow it to be encased in concrete, and allow your post to be removable. Hope this helps.

Excellent! I have had experience with other name brand product and was unsure as what to expect. I was VERY happily surprised that the fit was perfect and they easily slid over the base mounts I used for the 4x4 posts! Great value, quick shipping, it all worked for my large project. Thanks!

We are redoing our deck, replacing the deck and railings that have been in the weather since 1999. This jacket has thick walls and a thick outer skin. (Compared to the 39" length jackets. See my review on those products.) It should be able to stand up to hot weather for years. I have not installed any yet but will shortly. I plan on installing these over my existing weathered redwood posts. That will requiring furring out top and bottom as my posts are 3.25" x 3.25". I plan on ripping some redwood or PT fir and tacking it on top and bottom.(My posts are bolted to the deck facia which are 2'x12' PT fir.
