Handle separated from blade after 2 uses
I've had this shovel for about a year now. I purchased it because it felt lighter than the wood version and I thought it would be stronger. I've used it twice. Once to move rocks and once to move wood chips. When trying to pull some rocks away from a hole the handle separated from the blade as seen in the picture. I contacted customer support but they said "the product is not eligible for replacement under our warranty program" because I was missing the receipt.

    Shovel sucks
Within the first hour or two the shovel blade bent. Not heavy duty at all.

      Low Durability Digging Shovel
Had this shovel for two years. At first it seemed solid, but after two years of residential light use the metal at the neck of the shovel has snapped. This was used for top soil and dirt around the yard. No major digging or use for heavy rock or debris. Ames claims to have a lifetime warranty. I will update this review if they follow through and replace it.

This shovel is a super digging implement, especially for a midrange tall individual that is slight like me. I am 5'7" and 123 pounds and digging has been one of my hardest farm jobs and often wore me out.. This is the perfect size, It is made with these cool cast in steel foot treads so you can stand securely and balance when you dig. It is very pretty too! And it hauls a LOT of dirt. I made short work of tree planting the very day I got it. IT appears to be very durable too, but only time will tell on that score! I am DELIGHTED with this purchase. It is not a mini-shovel BTW it is .good-sized, just not huge and overly thick and heavy, PERFECTO!!

I needed a strong shovel to dig up deep rooted bushes and this one definitely was the right choice. The handle and blade are very strong which made my job easier.

The Razor-Back spade shovel I purchase worked wonderful. The built in step for foot leverage worked very well. I wish it was a tad sharper, I will file a small edge to help cut roots better, but this is just my personal like, otherwise it was a great shovel with Lifetime warranty..

        Poor quality
This shovel looks and feels like a very strong shovel. The shovel blade bent the very first time I used it. I have contacted the manufacturer to use the lifetime warranty. We will see if this happens. Home Depot does not warranty this product if it is more than 90 days old.

Excellent, strong shovel for hefty jobs
I moved literally a couple tons of earth digging a 4x4x5 grave for my poor Siberian Husky, for whom I built a semi-large coffin from materials also purchased at Home Depot. I've had bad experienced with shovels before, with the handles breaking and the bases digging into the soles of my shoes, even workboots, over time. However, this shovel is super sturdy and has an extra wide place to put your foot so it stays comfortable even for big jobs. Highly recommended. Adding a pic of the finished product in the corner of our yard. You can see it was a big job.

          Solid Build, Nice Push Feature
This is a well-built shovel with steel jackets over the spade-end and handle-end that cover & protect all but 9” of the full wood handle. A small, but useful design feature is that the spade is engineered with a flat support at the top that allows the user a small area to step on to push the spade down – with small holes drilled into the step to allow water to drain and minimize mud build-up. The height and weight of the shovel were perfect for me (I am 5’8” tall). The product name “razor back” might give the impression that the edge of the shovel will pierce most anything, and although it did an admirable job of cutting through some thick grass turf (with the aid of some modest foot pressure), it was not particularly effective at chopping through small tree roots (1/2”) that you are likely to encounter when landscaping your back yard. I will likely sharpen the spade to improve its usefulness for my terrain. My overall assessment is that this tool is built to last for the long-haul, and so it will be my “go-to” tool for virtually all my gardening and construction projects.

RazorBack 49 in. Fiberglass Handle Super Socket Digging Shovel
Bought this shovel after the other one I had snapped near the base. Didn't wanna go with a wooden handle anymore, so figured: why not try fiberglass?! Glad I did. It's super strong and easy to handle. The only downside is the weight for my size (I'm small and female) but I'm sure a bigger person wouldn't even feel the weight. I also like the 'feet handles' -- easy to jump onto the shovel blade to push it down into the ground, fun!

            Solid shovel
I ordered this shovel because it has a nice handle to grip - something we need, but did not have, for digging on our farm. It digs into our rock-laden soil easily because of the pointed end and the handle, which gives the user more pushing power . We're very pleased with how well it works and how the design reduces the strain on the shoulders and back while digging.

            When push comes to shovel...
Wow, let me just say that this is one of the more disappointing yard equipment purchases I have ever made. I read all of the flawless reviews and decided I might as well buy one quality shovel to hopefully last for the rest of my life. I bought the shovel just over two weeks ago for yard work use in my 7000 sq ft Michigan lot, and had used it less than five times total. I was mainly using the shovel to dig out small weeds and roots from otherwise clean topsoil. Apparently, this was too much to ask from my Razor-back 49in. shovel, which was compromised near the blade when trying to pry out one of these roots. In subsequent attempts to move any dirt, it was apparent the shovel was shot, and now I’m left with a beautiful but completely worthless fiberglass handle. If I could give this item 0 stars, I would. I am thoroughly disappointed that something that I expected to last a ‘lifetime’ couldn’t survive more than a few weeks of yard work.

Tough shovel, soft handle. Footstep provides leverage for digging roots & deep ditches.
The figerglass handle and leverage providing step enable me to dig with less stress on my back. Root removal is a tedious task. Last year I broke 2-3 wood handled digging shovels trying to dig around Bottlebrush roots. Simply a better invention than the wooden shovel. The leverage step is on both sides. It measures from 1 inch on the outer edge to 2 inches closer to the shovel for solid footing. The top foam 9" handle is a hard nonporous red foam. You can compare the texture against the tree in the photo. It's not soft, shouldn't rip or tear. Just a shovel, If the job is tough you still need the muscle to do the job, laugh.

            No Wimpy Shovel!
This one is built to take it. It's no lightweight. Big fiberglass handle with a rubber grip. I don't think I can break this one. The Powerstep gives your more area to place your foot, which was more comfortable to me, which allowed me to apply more pressure. The blade is coated, which keeps that sticky mud from sticking so badly. I'm gonna like this one and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

The warranty is a lie with many caveats.
Warranty has tons of technicalities and is worthless.

Replaced the same model I used for about 25 years. The blade had finally failed after heavy use and abuse. Would rate this shovel as the most durable I have ever come across.

the blade metal isn't a heavy gauge. i can feel the blade flex when digging in dirt/clay yard. This shovel is for medium use
