This review is for the MasterLock Storage Security Cash Box, model 7113D, which I was given an opportunity to check out. The 7113D is a small (4” high x 11” wide x 8” deep) lockable storage box. It comes with a removable 7 compartment tray; under that tray is further storage. There are no “springs” or retainers as you might find in a cash register for securing paper money; it’s a simple cash box. The box offers a full piano type hinge (see photo) and a latch/lock (which comes with two keys). The lid offers a carry handle, and the unit is made of steel (including the hinge). The box is not designed to be fire or flood proof, and a heavy hammer blow would probably be enough to spring the lock. It’s more for keeping “honest people honest”, or for keeping the kids out of the materials stored in the box. The fit and finish of the box I received is adequate (commiserate with the price point); the latch needs a bit of attention when closing the box, I have to make sure the upper and lower bits are aligned. Sometimes I need to pull just a bit on one part or the other to make things match up. Not onerous, but I can’t seem to just close the box lid and get the latch to match up every time. The locking mechanism, once the latch is secured, works fine. If you happen to lose both keys Home Depot notes on the product page that “Duplicate Keys Are Not Available”. This seems like a pretty good cash box for flea markets or church bazaars or craft shows, etc. I got the box for a different purpose, however; I’m using mine in my garage to hold spare small parts that wouldn’t easily fit in one of those plastic storage boxes. The steel MasterLock box does a nice job of holding the parts inventory (the bottom storage part, being open, holds bulkier items while the 7 compartment removable tray is excellent for the springs and brackets that I need to have handy). I think that when rating a product, you need to consider the price point as well as the materials, design, and suitability for use into the equation. Folks looking for a fireproof box, or one that offers more protection than a simple latch/lock may not find that this unit meets their requirements. If you’re just looking for a small box to store cash or other small items in and would like the protection of metal and the convenience of having a lock built in, this box deserves a look. Although the unit is not built in the U.S., it is backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty by MasterLock and, of course, Home Depot offers their standard 90 day return policy. HTH Regards, Jim

You get what you pay for. The lock is just strong enough to keep honest people out.

I bought this product based on the brand. I was disappointed when we had problems unlocking and locking the cash box. This product does not have a regular key hole and the keys cannot be copied. I could not see these details using the picture before I placed the order. I was expecting a key lock that was sturdy along with keys that were "real". I sent the product back because the tiny keys bent easily and one almost broke in the lock. I did not feel secure with this type of lock with cash.

The metal was flimsy and the keys didn't work in the locks. Thus, they were not actually secure "lock" boxes. But the product was sufficient for holding cash temporarily, during an outdoor festival.

this cash box is made of high quality metal, with a plastic bill and change drawer that is removable to access storage of checks or larger bills. The overall construction of the box is good. The lock assembly is a small key with a flip latch to keep the box closed. It has a nice finish that is resistant against scratching the box while being used or stored away for future use.

I was needing a lockable steel cash box for my crafts sales at fairs. This box is just shy of 8 inches wide by 11 inches long and 4 inches deep that is perfect for portable storage. The 7 compartment tray is not made of steel but is made of plastic, so the description stating that it was made of steel construction only applies to the box itself. It came with 2 keys and it is my understanding that duplicate keys cannot be made or ordered, a con if you loose one and need another. All-in-all, this cash box is of good quality.

Box was purchased because we needed a box with a lock at a reasonable price. This box would not latch, therefore we couldn't get it to lock either.

The locking mechanism doesn't want to close easily. You have to work with it or the lid doesn't latch

I could not find a sturdy metal cash box in our area, only heavy paper ones, so I tried the THE HOME DEPOT on- line store. Everything I needed was found there. It fits our floor safe perfectly.
