Purchased this tester (along with the probe) for a cabling install job a few months back and it practically paid for itself. I had to identify and punch down 48 separate cables into a patch panel in an office building that was wired but gutted by the previous tenants, luckily they left the keystone plates in place. The tone functionality works great with toning available on; all 6, 1-2, 3-6, 4-5, 7-8 pairs, or individual wires it helped me identify a short between 2 pairs of wire in CAT6 that had been damaged, as well as making identification in the IDF a breeze for punching down. Length measurement is a little off as I discovered that if you have the remote attached to the cable you are measuring you will get a reading about 2 - 3 feet longer than actual, but this feature will hardly be used by myself. Connection testing is very good with both RJ45 and RJ11 easily identifying which pin is not making contact and an easy to read PASS/FAIL indicator as well as an indication for; open, crossover, and reversed connection. My only complaints are that it can not do any testing functions when the cable is connected to an Ethernet port (either powered or inactive) and that the LCD screen build quality is a little cheap as every time i insert a cable or push a button the screen ripples across the entire area momentarily. Overall it is a good value for the price but you do sacrifice some extras when compared to something like a Fluke MS2, but I would definitely recommend it as a starting tool for those without the funds available for a higher end model.

I am very satisfied with the price and quality of the tester. I had an Ideal tester previously that lasted 10 years so I'm hoping this will do the same.

All the ease and speed of use as the Klein Scout (previously the best I had). Makes all cables troubleshooting a snap - Phone, LAN, Video cable. Included toner means one less special purpose box to carry. Tests cables as I make them; LAN cables especially. Any goofs show up instantly. The length test feature is also handy in a new environment - the other end of this cable is HOW far away!!?? Find the next-room with 100' coiled in the ceiling that you didn't know about... There are multiple network and/or video cables in this distribution location, but which is which? Find out in one pass (up to 19). Works great and exceeds my expectations. I have had the Scout Pro for a number of years and have been very happy with it. The Pro 2 LT is new, and making its mark as well.

In the cable industry, these toners are a necessity. I've found that putting tape around the tops keeps the numbers from wearing off while they're in your pocket.

I’m disappointed this product only does 568B Pinout and the length feature is very in accurate

Excellent product. For the price it is worth it. The functionality is great, and beats a standard pair tester. Gives cable length using capacitance. Multiple test and map remotes for quickly testing multiple cables.

Garbage

This tester was recommended to me by several I.T. people as a good option at a reasonable price. My local Home Depot stores didn't stock it so I had to special order it. It only took a few days to arrive at my nearest store, though, for pickup in a locker -- so not too bad. The "killer feature" in this Scout Pro 2 LT model is its ability to measure the length of an attached Ethernet cable. (That's great for troubleshooting because in most office environments, you have between 2 to 4 pairs of Ethernet cable drops going to a single wall plate. Those are all going to be the same length. So if one jack reports a length of, say, 54 feet, and the other only comes back with 30? That's a good indication that the second one has a break or fault, 30' down the cable run.) There's a cheaper (and much easier to find) Scout Pro 2 tester that looks identical to this one, but lacks the cable length measurement feature. That's why I specifically looked for this LT version. Other than that, the bulk of the functionality this tester seems focused on is helping you identify which cables run from a patch panel to various wall jacks. (It includes a collection of numbered terminators to attach to one end, so you can quickly go through and locate them, one after the other, while at the other end using the tester itself.). This works for both Ethernet and coaxial cables. Additionally, it's able to act as a tone generator to send one of several kinds of tones down a cable pair, so you can probe them out on the other end using a (not included) probe. (This feature is most often used when working with standard copper telephone wire.) It does the typical continuity checks of cabling that you'd expect from any basic cable tester, as well -- displaying each of the 8 pins on Ethernet on its LCD display. If you want to do anything more advanced than this tester can do, you're getting into FAR more expensive units like a Fluke. (Some of those can truly certify an Ethernet cable run as to the maximum data throughput it can handle without generating errors.) So this is about "as nice as you can get for under $200". It's got kind of a cheap plastic feel to it and I wouldn't trust it to hold up to a lot of rough handling -- but I'd recommend it.

I really like this tester it easy to use handy for getting cable lengths also like to use it to tone out data cables less bleed over then a regular tone generator and longer and clearer tone

We have several older buildings where the cabling infrastructure was not documented, this tool has helped us to get everything documented. This well save us hours of troubleshooting and guessing what cable goes where.

Works as advertised. Helped me locate an open pair on a LAN run. I should have purchased one of these years ago.

Works great only change I would make in hindsight is getting the version with the plug dongles not the plugs but it’s great for what I do and use it for

The meter does a good job of toning and checking the cables.

The tester worked well. It showed to me exactly which pair of wires had a break. It also helped assure me that I made good connections after the repair. The measuring capabilities are not very accurate on the other hand. It gave me a very rough idea of where the cut ocurred but I used the ratio and an educated guess to pinpoint the cut since the cable is underground and the measured length was much longer than actual.

Sadly, Klein Tools at its worse! This is at best a $75 product. I have been in the telecom business for 35 years and will be returning this overpriced purchase.

Fantastic tool. The LT is well worth the money. The ability to measure the distance of each twisted pair in CAT5 allows you to determine the distance of where a short is in the cable. HUGE time saver!
