    30” retractable downdraft system
It doesn’t line up properly and tilts forward, leaves stains from inside whenever it opens up. Was like that since the day we bought it! Not worth the money. Fan is loud too!

    Great Product
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) This downdraft fan is excellent and so easy to use. It stores out of site when not needed and comes up easily when needed. It has great amount of power to suck the steam into it instead of the air. Then is hidden when not needed.

      Eh, not many alternatives available
Installed August 2020. Still works ok as of July 2021. The fan doesn’t shut off automatically anymore when you lower it. It was a pain in the butt to install. The fan motor mount makes it difficult to position in a island so mine is mounted farther from the stove than it should be which makes it much less effective.

        Powerful. Sleek. Elegant.
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) We bought this retractable downdraft to accommodate our kitchen design. We have had this about a month and we could not be more pleased. The operation is both efficient at removing vapour and easy to clean. Sleek design allows this unit to “disappear” with the counter top. The fan will also retract while running and resumed that same fan speed when returning to operation. We have all KitchenAid small appliances and tools and love them also . The phrase “KitchenAid- for the way it’s made” is always on the tip of my tongue when I use this fan !!!!

          Very loud
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The unit does not set level, see picture. It is very loud and doesn’t pull the exhaust unless the pot/skillet is on the back, nearest burner. Highly overpriced for results.

The Kitchenaid downdraft works fine. The only problem is that the new one we bought is a little bit thicker than the original Kitchenaid it replaced. That required us to get a granite guy to cut a 36" long by 1/4" wide slice out of our countertop to make room for it. That's a Kichenaid problem.

Installation modifications due to vent dimensions
If anyone thinks this unit will allow for a flush mount with a reverse fan box switch you are mistaken. After moving the fan box to the rear, the raise mechanism continues to require 5 1/4 inches from the face of the pop-up vent box. Fan 10 inches out the back and raise unit 5 1/4 inch out the front. If you are using drawers in the front under your cooktop, they will need to be reduced depth by 5 inches.

              A winner!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just finished installing our new downdraft fan along with new KitchenAid gas cooktop. Everything about the transaction has been great; timely shipping, helpful and courteous delivery team, good looking fan fit and finish. Clearly designed to work well with a gas cooktop without distrupting the flame, yet very effective at removing steam and odor.

Unfortunately this unit didn't work. Also unfortunately, I was bitten by the 48 hour no-return policy - so I'm stuck with a brand new downvent system that can't be used, as it sat unopened in my living room for nearly 3 months. Although the width of 36" matched the existing failed system, the placement of the fan motor on the front created a depth that interfered with the brand new cabinet drawers and necessitated either eliminating the drawers for pots and pans - or finding a narrower unit, which a GE unit filled the requirements.

                  Looks good, but very disappointed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After waiting for this item to be in stock, we received it. When this downdraft was installed by professionals, it does not work properly. It shuts off (both fan and up/down mechanism) and smells like fire. We had to turn the breaker off as this is on it's own designated breaker. Sorry to say that we will be calling service before we are able to use it; very disappointing.

I replaced the old 7" rise KitchenAid by 14" tall one. It was drastic change from the old one to new one in terms of suction power with four-speed pan. Steam and most food odors are almost gone when it turns on. I highly recommend this to anyone wants to replace the lower riser.

                    Good height when raised.
I have a stove in the island. Researched Kitchenaid extensively to ensure this would work in my situation. I like the height of this compared to other brands. But, altho it states reversible it still has a "bumped" out part that means it cannot install close to the appliance, like it would behind a cooktop. This isn't disclosed in the owners manual, as my contractor/installer told me. In any event it shows evidence of a powerful suction but honestly I wasted my money buying this. It's 6" away and would have been more effective if it were closer.

We’ve had the vent installed in our newly remodeled kitchen and failed after 30 days of use. The vent telescopes up and down but the venting fan hums when engaged. Been on the phone with Kitchen Aid customer service for an hour as I write this review. Awaiting a resolution for the repair or replacement of our new appliance.

I would advise against a downdraft system--
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If I had to do this over again, I never would have gotten a down draft system. The first problem is that this will not fit against the back of the stove, because of the motor. It is apparently designed to go under a cooktop. The motor is not reversible so there is now a gap between the stove and the downdraft vent. Don't put your stove in the island. If you do get a hood above the range.

The top scratches easily, and the unit arrived with the motor not being powerful enough to lift the downdraft all the way up. We're going to have to look into a warranty claim on this brand new appliance.

Works fine but a switch lever in inner motor section breaks every few years. This part when broke makes the fan not to stay up... the part cost about 50cad and it is a pain to replace yourself, must cost a lot by tech. i replaced it myself two time in 6 years already...

                              Very happy with it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The vents raise high enough to pull in the smell but not affect the flames of the burners (an issue we had with previous downdraft). A bit noisy but looks nice and is easy to clean.

                                After repair works great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I installed this downdraft unit myself, Fairly straight forward until I powered unit befor final installation. Back would pop up but fan would not come on. After waithing 6 days to get a tech out to look at it he found out that at the factory the switch to the fan motor was not connected. Quality control could be better. It was very frustrating to have to wait another week to get our kitchen back to being able to use it.
