Bought this model to replace my 10 year old KN-COPE-D. Surprised how sleek and small this recently updated model is. The new design is more elegant than the clunky, round flying saucers previously. At first disappointed batteries now installed at the back, but the new design at the front has the sensor taking up that space and no longer needs the recess around the base. Also pleasantly surprised it fit the old bracket fine. Also wanted to avoid the unreliable 10-year lithium battery versions.

Game changer in alarms
Let’s be honest, 9 volt batteries have gone the way of the transistor radio. Enter the Kidde Firex alarm powered by AA batteries. Genius! Hard to believe it took so long for this enhancement. Add to it that this is a dual smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, this is a must have in your home. But wait, there’s more, it has a voice telling you it’s a smoke or carbon monoxide emergency. I would give it 10 stars if that were possible.
I installed this Kidde Firex Battery Powered Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector with Voice Alerts in my motorhome. The motorhome is heated with propane, which gives off carbon monoxide (CO), and CO can hug the floor or ceiling depending on the internal temperature. This Smoke and CO detector on the ceiling compliments the Propane and CO detector mounted near the floor. After installing this dual function smoke and CO detector and pressing the test button, I received an alert tone typical of a smoke detector and then a clear female voice at a reasonably loud volume announced "Fire," then the detector beeped again and announced "Warning, Carbon Monoxide." The voice announcement is very effective at differentiating between the two functions of this detector. This detector replaced an existing smoke-only detector and not wanting to add new holes in the ceiling, I drilled 2 new holes in the new detector's mounting plate to match the old detector's mounting holes. Highly Recommended.
Kidde Firex Battery Powered Combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm is a good choice for more reasons than just one unit to change batteries on. I have been using Kidde brand since I got my first house and the products they produce are dependable. This is my first comb unit and also my first with voice alert. I did read through the "user guide" and found out I should be using canned air or a vacuum cleaner carefully around the alarm at least once a year and I had only been dusting it in the past. Another plus to the combo, is all the walls are not covered with multiple alarms.
Easy to install and use, have new protection in Family room.
I like Kidde Fire / Smoke / Carbon Monoxide detectors. They are always easy to install and simple to use. The Firex detector attaches to a wall or ceiling with two screws and anchors (if needed). Kidde says to align the detector with the direction of a hallway, for example. I like detectors with a voice better than just loud chirps. It is easier for me to understand repeated messages such as: "chirp chirp chirp FIRE chirp chirp chirp" or "chirp chirp chirp chirp Warning Carbon Monoxide chirp chirp chirp chirp." Less freaking out when weaking up in the middle of the night. I like the various diagnostics chirp patters for low battery, end of detector life, malfunction, etc. Search for DrB DIY Kidde Firex on how to position, install and test the detector. For this detector, I actually read the instructions and put them in the video. It was informative to see where detectors should be placed, could be placed and should not be placed. I added the Firex to the family room. Feeling safer.
The manufacturer claims that the Kidde Battery Powered Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector ( Model 900-CUDR-V) will give a Voice alarm - an 85 dB alarm will sound and announce the hazard type: fire when a smoke or fire hazard is detected, warning carbon monoxide when a CO hazard is detected.
Mostly every one may have experienced the smoke alarm in the kitchen when cooking; but how about the CO (Carbon Monoxide) alarm? I wish there was an easy way to do that. Untill then we just have to believe what the manufacturers say.
I tested this unit, and in few seconds after exposing to smoke it started beeping 3 times each several times and then I heard the voice alarm: "Fire". But the voice alert was very faint, about 40 dB. May be that would be enough since the alarm is very loud.
The installation is very easy. It takes only one minute.
This Kidde Battery Powered Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector came with the batteries installed and a pull tab to activate. I think the design is more attractive than the traditional flat detector. The voice alert is a pleasant, easily understandable femaie voice. She says "Push Test Button" when the batteries are changed, and "Fire" and "Warning Carbon Monoxide". The alarm is plenty piercing and loud.
I like that it uses alkaline AA batteries instead of the more usual 9V battery. The photoelectric smoke sensor will detect smokey, smoldering fires better than fast burning blazes.
It remembers that an alert condition occurred for 24 hours, notifying by blinking a red LED. The test button has to be pushed to find out if it was smoke or CO2 (CO2 is announced, no announcement for smoke). Of course I'd have to notice that the red LED was blinking to know that an alert had happened while I was away.
A nice feature is voice alerts for low battery - every 15 minutes, that can be silenced for 24 hours, but will become more insistent after a week. The end-of-life alert after 10 years works similarly. The battery life isn't mentioned, but it's recommended that the batteries be replaced annually.
I was planning to put this in my garage - the only source of CO2 in my all-electric house, but the manual says not to because normal car exhaust might set it off.
Good smoke/carbon monoxide detector with audible voice notifications
This was easy to install in place of an existing smoke detector and gives us extra peace of mind in the bedroom and bathroom hallway in our cabin.
When the photoelectric smoke detector activates, it has three long beeps that repeat every couple of seconds along with the voice alarm that states ‘Fire’. When the electro-chemical carbon monoxide detector activates, there are four short beeps along with the voice alarm that states ‘Warning Carbon Monoxide’ that repeat every five seconds. If the CO alarm isn’t reset within 4 minutes, the alarm will switch to repeating from once every five seconds to once every minute. The 85 decibel alarm is loud and can be heard through our home.
Depending on the concentration of carbon monoxide being detected, the detector will activate in 1-4 hours at 70ppm, 10-50 minutes at 150ppm and 4-15 minutes at 400ppm.
The alarm is powered by two AA 1.5 volt batteries that must be replaced at least once every year. When the backup batteries are running low, the unit beeps/chirps until the batteries are changed. You cannot use lithium batteries and Kidde recommends Energizer, Gold Peak or Golden Power brand batteries as a replacement.
Installation was pretty straightforward as we were replacing an existing battery operated smoke detector. The backing plate attaches easily to the screws in the ceiling box and after removing the DC battery protector strip, the detector simply twists onto the backing plate and you’re done.
If you are installing the alarm in a remodel or new construction, it comes with a protective plastic cover to keep any construction dust out of the sensors until it is ready to be used.
The alarm has a single button which makes it easy to test it out or reset it when it activates. This button can also be used to activate a ‘Hush’ mode that disables the alarm for about 8 minutes if it has been accidentally activated (such as by fireplace smoke blowing back down the chimney into a nearby room).
Kidde recommends cleaning the alarm with compressed air or air blown from a vacuum cleaner once a year to keep the sensors in good working order.
The alarm is good for 10 years before it will need replacing. There is a manufacturing date on the label on the underside of the smoke detector which helps you figure out how old it is when you’re changing the batteries.
The alarm comes with a 10 year replacement warranty that requires you to mail it to Kidde along with the purchase receipt.
Great product, easy to install with instructions. My home was pre-wired for this alarm in 3 areas but instructions are clear & easy to follow. If unsure, seek an electrician. Safety of your loved ones is worth the price!

Very easy to install. Everything you need is in the box (except for screwdriver). Tested just fine...this is my 2nd one purchased. I install this one in my vacation rental by owner apartment. I like the voice activation. I feel that will provide my (vrbo) guests with an added safety feature. (Sorry for the lead of "elegant". Somehow it got stuck on my review and i could not edit it. I normally dont refer to a detector as elegant)

Great product choice for an older home without the hard wired detectors. I liked that the batteries were AA instead of the common 9 volt and unit was very easy to install with only two screws. This product has added life safety value with the combo smoke and CO alarm.

I don't have a rating for this product. I have just installed it by my furnace, but as of this writing it hasn't went off. When I installed the batteries it sounded like it should work and I liked having two different alarms, one for fire and one for gas leak.

Fabulous product !
This product was my first choice when shopping for a replacement. The price was reasonable, the style was sleek. The color is a neutral white which blends with any wall color. Easy installation, comes with batteries and screws. The voice activation is an added feature and is an exceptional idea in emergency circumstances. I rate this product five stars! I have bought six for my entire apartment building!

This product is easy to install.
I purchased this product to replace an expired smoke detector in a family room containing a fire place. This unit was very easy to install with basic tools found in any home and has a front panel that makes battery replacement a snap. The unit is neutral color and blends in well. It does not give false alarms as many units I have owned in the past did. I highly recommend this unit.

Kidde CO/Fire works perfectly!
I replaced my Kidde CO/fire alarms after I had a CO problem in my apartment. Woke me up (loudly) when I was sleeping and the alarm system made sure I was safe! Excellent product. The voice alarm for which aspect is alarming is very useful since I was feeling pretty disorientated. Only good things to say about this!

These are smaller but fitted the old Kiddie mounts, so didn't have to drill new holes. Very happy about that. Product looks good quality.
I wanted replaceable battery ones. I read issues with 10-year battery ones, where battery won't last a year and you can't turn off the alarm unless you break the unit and then there were issues with warranty replacements.
