Horrible
Spreader only 2 years old and gear box is frozen. Purchased this because of the name behind it and I guess John Deere relied on brand name because this spreader is too expensive to only have lasted 2 seasons. Thought John Deere made better equipment, don't let the name fool you.

Have not assembled this one yet but it is an identical replacement of what I am replacing. Use this for spreading salt on parking lots at a housing complex. The last one lasted two to three years. Like anything built anymore, it is not very durable. The gear box is failing on the current one and is the reason for replacement. Just think they should be built a bit stronger for hauling 175lbs.

This works okay, messy. Spreader vibrates open sometimes. Nice you can lock your setting at 0 to avoid this but feel this shouldn’t be necessary for the price. Tighten up the engineering to stiffen the mechanism, quite loose controls.

NOT a John Deere
Transmission went out, searched John Deere replacement parts nothing came up. Finally after days of searching I call John Deere, I am told this in not a John Deere. I explained it is green, it has a yellow John Deere emblem, yellow wheels and has John Deere name on it. He again assured me it was not a John Deere and suggested I search for brinly...It's a Brinly

It’s nice and is sturdy. Little difficult putting together. My only issue after getting it together. Is the fertilizer doesn’t drain completely. The bottom is flat so as the fertilizer begins to empty it doesn’t get it all. I end up having to shake the last bit out. Which is frustrating when it’s on the back of a riding lawnmower. It would be better if the bottom was more like a funnel.

Great size for my big lawn.
This is a great size for my lawn. Give yourself a good 60 minutes to put everything together. At the start you need an extra person to help hold a few pieces together. Once that is done, one person can finish the assembly. It is very sturdy and easy to wash after use.

Product is well made, but the only problem I have...
Product is well made, but the only problem I have is not being able to close fast enough as the handle is not easily accessible, and I spill product until I can close, which ends up with excess fertilizer on my lawn, which then kills the grass. I am going to try to retrofit, so the lever is next to me.

Overall I was pleased with the Spreader. Had a little trouble with following the assembly instructions for inserting the discharge spinner connecting rod through the bottom of the bin. Drawing 3 or 4 steps later had the visual that allowed me to figure it out. Should have had that visual earlier in assembly. Other than that it works great now that it's assembled. I have a John Deere Lawn tractor that I pull it with and it looks great together. I have about and acre and used 2 - 15,000 sg ft bags of Scotts and only need to fill spreader twice - once for each bag! Really like the tires - nice and wide and not the skinny kind that can leave ruts in the lawn.

Hello Christine and thank you for the comment. With a small adjustment of the fan and the fan driver you will see results. The fan needs to be just below the hopper to allow the fertilizer to build and stop. Once you start up again the fertilizer will disperse evenly. have not used the spreader yet,but did put it together.....
have not used the spreader yet,but did put it together.. The instructions were not very clear,it took a lot longer to assemble then what was told. Still do not understand on how the spreader when stopped the fertilizer quits coming out. Please explain if you can how that works.

Hello Homedepotcustomer and thank you for the question. The AutoFlow feature works by stopping excess material from flowing out of the rate gate when the spreader is stopped. Once the spreader is moving again, the small amount of material collected will be evenly spun off the fan, thus preventing large amounts of material in one spot. During assembly of the spreader, it's important to pay close attention to the positioning and proximity of the fan to the hopper opening and rate gate; when positioned and secured per the instructions, it will allow the AutoFlowTM to work properly.
