I was replacing an existing closer on a steel security door. The old closer was 30 years old and worked great, until it didn't. I figured this would be a 10 minute replacement job. First, any instructions (online or other) were minimal and incomplete. If you were installing this onto a wood door/frame, then it might go fairly smooth. But this is the Heavy Door with Torsion Bar. So it makes sense that you have a large, heavy, steel or aluminum door. The screws were larger than the old ones, so I had to use a power screwdriver to mount the bracket into the wood frame. Lucky there were already holes, but the screw heads apparently are not well-made as I stripped out at least one of the screws. I replaced it with a spare I had. It was impossible to mount the screws into the steel door, even though I had holes. I had to keep drilling the holes larger and larger until I finally got one of the screws in. I used a flat blade screwdriver and did it by hand. These screws were not made for steel nor made for hard driving. Once I had the closer installed, I adjusted the closer but it seems to close quickly at first (door hits you in the butt on the way in), and slowly at the end, to the point that the door would not latch. Overall, it will get the job done but a bit of a disappointment.

The two door closers that I ordered arrived on time and fit the doors that they were intended for. The closers are adjustable for the weight of the door and work well. They also replace the original door closers precisely with the torque bar on the side of the closer to help close a heavier door.

This product met my expectations

I've spent two hours trying to figure out why something that should have taken 10 minutes, per the manufacturer, didn't. I cannot comprehend how this unit could possibly fit a standard setup. I only needed the spring mechanism, and yet the two units were as different as night and day. It didn't help that the manufacturer doesn't provide instructions, instead directing consumers to the web. I have a computer right next to my front door, don't you? Further, the instructions online are as beneficial as trying to kick myself in the butt. The pictures blow up to larger than my large screen laptop (18 inches) and further rotate, without the ability to pause, every 3-5 seconds. In short, not helpful. Further, either the unit is defective, or I've been struck stupid by screwdriver overuse, because the angle of the unit could not possibly work as they have instructed, with the measurements provided. The door side of the unit, if made flat to the door for installation, is then too short to connect to the door frame side of the unit, and the spring mechanism, which is supposed to slide over a toggle, doesn't. The picture online shows plenty of room, but on my unit, there isn't. In short, I'm aggggggggravvvvvatttted!

Exact replacement for my worn out door closer...works well...100% satisfied!

I have a very heavy security storm door and even though the closer that came w/the door said it was heavy duty it did not keep the door from slamming shut even when I adjusted the screw tension. However, this door closer has been working excellently. As good as I hoped for.

I had to replace my closer last year and chose this one from Ideal Security. It was easy enough to install and has given me no problems whatsoever. Smooth operation each time I open the door. No complaints.
