These check valves are not only a waste of money by themselves, but they've wasted money several times their value. I had one valve fail earlier this year and burn up my primary sump. The flap basically eroded away and folded in on itself. Because of how badly it failed, I decided to replace it and the valve for my back up pump with a more expensive, name-brand valve once I received the shipment of my new primary pump. I went to take off the valve for my back up pump, and lo and behold, that one had completely failed like the first one... almost burning up my other pump! No telling how much damage was done, but it still works. That's $150 these pieces of junk cost me, and almost $300. See attached image. DO NOT BUY.

Check all the ones in the box before you purchase or you will be disappointed
I'm on my second one of these and thought it best to share my recommendations.
Firstly, the sump pump system I inherited did not have a check valve installed. So when it got rainy the sump pump would cycle constantly. Click, whoosh, click, whoosh, gurgle, click etc.
Water would go up, water would come back down. I think every cycle it was lucky to get a cup full out the end of the pipe before the float fell turning off the pump and the water drained back out.
Anyway, I installed one of these and it did the job perfectly for all of two days.
I removed it to find that the plastic flapper had fallen through and was not flapping or sealing any more. For reference the height I was throwing water up was only 8 feet.
I popped the flapper back through and noticed something very interesting. The flapper was off center. So over the short period of time I had it installed the water hammering back against it was enough to pop it through as it was not properly supported.
I went back to my local Home Depot and took a look at the dozen they had left on the shelf. Of the dozen there was only one where the flapper was lined up properly. Needless to say I bought that one and I haven't had a failure yet.
I can only assume this lack of alignment is a bored employee on the production line just throwing these through and there is no QC inspection.
So, if you are heading out to buy one make sure you look through the entire box. You only have to look at a couple and you will see what I saw.
I've also uploaded a picture of the bad one so you can see what to look for.

Works well
Does exactly what I need it to do and relatively inexpensive. The one I replaced was quite old and would leak every time the sump pump went on. Removal and installation took all of 5 minutes. It's only been a month so I cannot comment on longevity.

This is worthless.. The valve does not shut or seat properly; replaced with one from a plumbing supply.

Avoid!
Failed in less than a month, seems like poor quality flap pushes through just from the weight of the water retained in pipe. Complete Junk!

great fix for a leaking plastic check valve!
Our son's house had a leaking plastic check valve. The pipe wasn't installed very straight so it caused a crack in the pipe or the valve. Once the valve was cut out the new rubber valve was easily placed and the clamps tightened for a secure fit. The rubber offered more flexibility to deal with the pipe alignment. problem.

Quiet and dependable
I have used this brand of check valve for 15 years and love it. My sump pump runs so actively, I replace the sump pump and the check valve every 3 to 4 years for safety. This valve closes much more quietly than all the others I initially tried. Until I found this brand, we could hear the check valve clapping closed all over the house until I found this Flo Tec brand. Quiet and out of mind.

can't withstand back pressure
I tried using this on a shallow well jet pump, 30psi. when my pump would shut off the vacuum pressure of the water falling (only 8ft) would invert the rubber valve and get stuck until I would take it apart. The hose clamps would also never tighten enough to hold pressure for more than a few days. Its a good valve though, good price but it just wasn't right for what I was doing.

Good valve, just don't trust the label.
Been using these valves in my house and at friends' houses as well. It works. Have not experienced problems like others have mentioned, and some of these have been in service for years with a lift of about 8 feet. The last one I used, though turned out to be labeled backwards. The flapper opens in the opposite direction to the marked flow. Just check the flapper with a broom handle before you install to avoid the headache.

Very good sump pump (Wayne)
Find some difficulties in installing thesump pump and backup pump with battery. The battery monitor which is suppose to come with battery was not with the system. Don't know how to tell if the battery fluid gets low. The pump and backup pump is currently preforming very well.

Necessary purchase
I wanted to install a basin pump, which is like a sump pump with the basin sitting on the basement floor. The basin pump had a 2" PVC outlet, but the check valve stocked by Home Depot was only 1 1/2" diameter. Since I wanted to get the project rolling, I decided to reduce the pump outlet piping to 1 1/2. This may reduce the pump flow rate slightly, but I decided the pump was large enough to meet my needs, even with the reduced outlet piping. The check valve worked well, and my installation seems to meet all of my requirements.

Easy to Install
This device is just a simple flapper valve, but it appears well constructed and all you need is a screw driver to install it; all the necessary clamps are there. It has been working fine for about two months now.

Failed in less than a year
Purchased two of these last Spring. As soon as rains came in this year the check valve was busted. The seal got twisted and then warped. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS!!!! I did not and now Im outta luck on $10+tax.
Bad product. I expected at LEAST a year. 3 realistically.

Flapper does not work x3
Installed easily as most do, and put in about 6 months ago. After a while (2-4 weeks) noticed a gurgling type sound after the pumps (we have 3) would run. Finally took the installations apart and determined that the flappers in all three pumps had failed ... they moved both ways and did not stop anything.
All three of our installations push the water about 8 feet vertically and the check valve is located about half-way up the pipe.
Do not buy this product.
