We are sorry to hear that you had an issue. If the pump overheated it was most likely not shutting off. Do you know what size of basin you have? If the tethered switch doesn't have enough room to operate it can get hung up on the basin and will continue to run and will end up burning the motor. Please check your basin size as if this was the issue, you will experience again regardless of brand.

Everbilt 1/3 HP Aluminum Sump Pump is working
I purchased a Everbilt 1/3 HP Aluminum Sump Pump to replace my 15 year old pump. A week before my son had purchased the same pump after his 9 year old pump froze up due to calcium build up from the hard water in our area of the USA. His pump has been working for a couple of weeks now without fail as the water build up around his foundation has kept the pump running at about 80% capacity. So this review is really about his pump. The pump I purchased is sitting in the sump pump basin waiting for the underground water pressure around my house to build up and flood the basin. Based on the ease of installation of both pumps and the pumping data on my son's pump I am a happy camper with this purchase.

I'm discusted because it didn't shut off when the water went below the Mercury switch. I nearly burned the pump up !!

We are sorry to hear you had an issue with the pump. This pump has a mechanical switch as mercury activated switches are no longer allowed. What size of basin are you using for the tethered switch? If the basin isn't wide enough the float can "hang up" causing the switch to not turn the unit off.

Good small pump
Good small pump for my purpose, wished it had the other type of float like the larger pumps. The float works, it's just not adjustable.
