Purchased this for exhaust-free light duty lawn work and it is supremely matched to that task. Shhortly after purchasing we had a large limb fall off a tree after a storm and this saw was able to make short work of it on branches with up to 8 to 12 inch thickness.I would say that the power was a bit more than I was expecting but honestly my expectations where quite low.The only reason I am not giving this a 5 star review is because of the battery pack design. It seems that the cells are packed so close together, without any air flow, that it can make them prone to failure from overheating. That being said, Echo has a 5 year warranty on these batteries. Considering the expected lifespan of a rechargeable battery, this is pretty good. Just keep your receipts because the changes you will have to get a battery replaced is pretty good.

Broke and Broke Again
My first impression of this chainsaw was that it was amazing. It cut with ease. It ran...and ran...and ran without charging. That is the reason for 2 stars. Then, the chain slipped the first time... and was not an easy fix. Then, I noticed the drive mechanism for the chain was damaged so I returned it and it was replaced. New one ran great. I put it away for a while. A big limb fell in my yard. Chopped it easily. I was taking out a shrub - little branches. Chain slipped and sheered the mechanism and damaged bolts in the housing. Took it back again. Home Depot was really cool about returning it 1 day after the warranty was up. Obviously it was cheaply constructed and I wont be getting - yet another - to bring back damaged. Sadly, I've yet to see one in the price range with comparable power. Haven't purchased anything new yet - don't want the hassle.

Hello, G8ter - We're very sorry to hear that you also had trouble with the replacement chainsaw as well! That isn't the reliable performance that we strive for and we apologize. We are glad though that you were able to return it. And we hope that you'll consider giving the chainsaw another try as we believe the experience will be better. And if you'd like to discuss your experience further, then please feel free to email us anytime at reviews@echocordless.com. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! ECHOcordless

Lightweight but still powerful enough to do the job. I used it to clear all but the largest branches when a tree fell on the deck. A good fit for those of us who need a saw for home maintenance.

Larger than most other battery-powered saws, just be sure to have extra charged batteries on hand if you get into anything more than minor clean-up. Have experience with the Stihl battery line and tools, and these seem bit more serious - especially the mower.

    Very durable and versatile
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very happy with this saw. My last saw (gas) lasted about 15 yrs, decided to go electric and I haven’t looked back. Ended up getting the same series weed eater and hedge trimmer all using the 58v system. I’ve used the saw and weed eater for about 2 yrs now with no problems and NO GAS and OIL!

I used it for about an hour and a half a couple of days ago and it seemed to work fine. The largest diameter cut was about 6 inches. The battery(2AH)- using it off and on lasted approx. 1 hour, before I switched to another 2AH battery. The recharge was quick on both batteries.

      Great tool addition
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the saw in the Fall of 2019 to help clean up limbs and fallen timber; I take it out every time I work on wood. It is great to make <4" cuts and consider it a finishing saw. I perform the big cuts with my Stihl gas powered saw, but follow up with the Echo to finish the job. Interested in knowing the expected life of the battery pack and the Echo warranty; packs works for blower, so it keeps us working.

I purchased this chain saw and a extra battery in September of 2019. Since then one battery failed within the first month. Went back to home depot about this issue their stance was its echo's problem. Home depot wants to sell the produce but not back up what they sell. I finally got a replacement from Echo now this battery will not charge. The saw it's self works really well but the battery's are very poor quality and not reliable. Now I have to due battle with echo again to get another battery. My recommendation is stay away from this chain saw.

I returned it & still haven’t received my refund. They should never sell anything that battery powered & put in tiny print that the battery & charger is separate. What a rip-off!!!

I just got this chainsaw over the weekend and it's amazing....I have a Stihl 009L, Echo CS-3450, Echo Pole Pruner, and Stihl Super Farm Boss. I have the Echo 58V trimmer, hedge trimmer and absolutely love the 58V system and and a huge echo fan. I've had over 15 pieces of echo gas equipment over the years. Anyways back to the chainsaw. This is an amazing tool for the homeowner. It's just as powerful as my Stihl 009L and Echo CS-3450 saws. I switched to the Echo 58v because of carburetor problems and the easy of use in the battery system. However I highly recommend using Echo Red Armor Ethanol Free premixed fuel for any Echo gas equipment. Using this I've had 0 carburetor repairs and everything runs right. So for the Chainsaw something interesting is the bar and chain is a .043 kerf, I've never had that on any of my gas saws and apparently this is pretty universal in battery operated chainsaws. On all my gas saws the kerf is .050. Just something to remember when you replace the chain make sure to buy the correct chain. At first I threw in a 16" chain from my CS-3450 and the friction was extremely high...lucky I realized it after running it for less then a minute and didn't damage anything. This uses a R56 Oregon Chain. Only thing that seems a bit weird is if the chain binds it appears to go into some sort of safety mode and needs 5-10 seconds to reset. I have 2 4 amp hour batteries so it's a nice set up, the string trimmer and hedge trimmer hardly use any battery power and since this eats up the battery pretty quickly, it's nice to have 2 and keep one on the charger when in use.

This chain saw is as good as any gas powered 16" bar for sure--same power or more, no gas cloud, quiet. Bring lots of chain oil to the job. I cut many fallen 10" trees into logs with it and even cut the end off a fallen 18" log by making a series of cuts around the trunk without too much difficulty--all this within a 3 hour period (I have two batteries). I have three battery-powered Echo tools now, including a lawn mower and a trimmer: lots of power and I am amazed at how the mower mulches everything--walnut and chestnut husks and all, small branches, and of course leaves and grass. Who knows, maybe they will produce a battery-operated snowblower that actually does the job on cold days!

will not run for more than 3 seconds.
was great for the first year of use. I use it with my Echo CS 400 which I love. Either battery results in the same 3 second run time. WAIT AWHILE AND GET ANOTHER 3 SECONDS. Don't buy this model. All my other Echo cordless are trouble free.

Two years now - works great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had our 58v chainsaw for two years now. It’s worked flawlessly and I much prefer it to my little 16” gas Poulan. I’ve become a real convert to preferring cordless over gas for some tools. To date I’ve ended up buying the chainsaw, 2 hedge trimmers, 2 string trimmers. The chainsaw and one hedge trimmer are for trail work. The latter for trimming overhanging branches on our snowmobile / atv trails. The other hedge trimmer and string trimmer for our house in the city. IMPORTANT: if you read about issues with the batteries keep reading. You’ll find that ALL the powerful cordless brands have battery issues and there’s lots of videos showing the really simple quick fixes for packs that won’t charge if allowed to drain too far.

I was pleasantly surprised how well this saw made quick work of a fallen tree in my yard. With just under one battery (barely) I was able to slice up a roughly 40 foot 14” diameter tree. I would recommend having at least 2 batteries and cleaning it after every use.

                Amazing performance and high quality
I've been using this saw to drop some trees in my backyard and turn them into firewood. One was a tough apple tree, which I expected to bog down the saw. I was very impressed with how quickly it worked its way through the trees, and the battery lasted long enough for me to need a break from working. I had read several reviews complaining about the thin bar and chain that comes with the saw, so I purchased a slightly wider Oregon bar and chain in a more common size. No need to hunt down the original Echo equipment. I was worried about bar oil leaking when not in use, but it hasn't left a drop on my bench between weekend uses. All the important parts are metal and I expect it to last a long time. Keep the chain oiled and sharpened, and you can take down anything within reason. I love this saw, and expect to put it to heavy use for years to come.

Great chainsaw and then completely died!
For the most part this chainsaw ran very good and cut well for about a year of household tree trimming. Then one day is stopped working and won't start. I tried 2 different batteries, always full of chain oil. It's just dead and I don't know what to do with it.

                    Frustrating piece of equipment.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the saw 2 1/2 yrs ago. First use was cutting up a tree at my parents. It would continuallty cut out. I finally gave up and used my gas powered saw. I then heard about pressing the re-start. It now worked for a little while. It would still cut out, but not as often. Yesterday, I was limbing up a small tree in my front yard. It would continually cut out (no limbs over 4" in dia.). Echo has a battery problem they will not admit to having. When the saw, string trimmer, and blower work (yes, I have all 3), they are great. When they are cutting out, they are just as frustrating as the 2 cycle equipment (I have all of Echo's 2 stroke equipment as well). WHY WILL THEY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM? One last thing. Echo doesn't make a case for the chain saw. Now that really doesn't make sense.

I'm very impressed so far! I've only had this saw for about a week, so that's why I only gave it 4 stars. The 5th star will have to be earned over time as its durability is proven (although with a 5-year warranty I'm not too concerned). I'm using it for cutting ATV trails through the woods on my property. I'm intentionally avoiding mature trees and only cutting smaller ones (less than 10" diameter). This saw cuts very well, has plenty of power, and feels well balanced. I already had the 2 amp battery that came with the 58V string trimmer, so I just bought the bare saw. I can't speak to how this saw performs on large trees, but on smaller ones, I can't tell any difference between this one and my 16" gas powered saw, except I don't have to waste time cranking and trying to get this one to start and run smoothly every time I want to use it! I use a chain saw very infrequently, so not having to worry about carb maintenance and fuel gumming are big benefits to me. This is why I bought the 58V string trimmer a year ago. I was so pleased with it that I didn't hesitate to buy the chain saw now. I also like that the saw is quiet (not running) when I'm not cutting. I haven't used the saw enough to speak to the battery life expectancy. If this ever becomes an issue, I can always buy a second battery, but since the 2 amp battery has a 30 minute charge time, I might just take a beer break! This saw does not feel "light" or "cheap". My initial impression is that it is well made. The see-through bar oil tank is a nice feature as well. Overall, I am very satisfied with all of my Echo 58V tools. I hope they add a backpack blower (instead of handheld) to the lineup next.

i was a little hesitate to buy a chainsaw battery powered. I am pleasantly surprised how powerful this saw is. I have cut tree branches at least 4 inches in diameter with no problem. the build quality is excellent and well made. instructions are great and easy to follow. the grip is very solid and I like the bar oil see thru so I can see the level without opening the cap. I have several echo battery powered products and all are high quality pieces of equipment.

                        Exactly what I needed!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Performs exactly like I expected, from the reviews I read. It is the quietest saw I have ever owned. I definitely do not miss the fumes that I got using a gas powered saw. I use the saw to cut rounds for my log splitter and to trim the Oaks and Pines on my ranch. When I use the saw, it is for about 2 hrs a day. I recharge the battery after 2 days work. It still has some charge left when I do this.
