Customer Reviews for Swing-N-Slide Playsets DIY Kodiak Custom Outdoor Playset Hardware Kit with Backyard Swing Set Accessories (Lumber and Slide Not Included)
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a 20 plus year old Eagles Nest. I cleaned it up and purchased this canopy. It was easy and simple to attach. It makes the old nest look new!

Overall, I really liked this set. The brackets made assembly much quicker and I feel like it is sturdier than traditional construction. The plans were nice. I liked that there were 3 different options. One uses a solid roof instead of the tarp, one has a 4 foot deck which steps up into a 5 foot deck and one has a 5 foot deck which steps into a 7 foot deck. Some use more wood than others, and I believe mine used the least amount of wood. I built plan 515 (the last one I mentioned), which is the tallest option because I wanted a large sandbox below the deck. I can actually stand up under parts of the play set. It included a place for a second slide, but I did not want to spend $350 on a twisty slide, so I made the 7 foot climbing wall option which is listed in the plans. Overall, the plans were useful. Near the end of the plans they had many optional items such as a ladder, twisty slide, 5 foot climbing wall, or 7 foot climbing wall. These plans were less descriptive and a little harder to follow.
Also, the brackets I got were stamped wrong, so the side that said TOP was actually the bottom! When I was putting them on, I knew that they were wrong, but I figured they couldn't have made that big of a mistake. Finally, partway through the build, I called the company and they confirmed that they had a batch which was stamped wrong and that I should flip them all over. At this point, the frame was assembled, so I had to pry the wrap brackets apart and flip them over. It wasn't ideal, but I didn't want to risk stripping the wood by unscrewing the frames.
The plan I built estimated 5-10 hours of build time. I think that was an underestimate. I built this without another adult helping (my kids helped hold a few boards in place, but they weren't like having another adult). It took me about 30 hours to cut all the wood and build. With 2 adults, it should take 10-15 hours to build, so a long weekend.
Here is a cost breakdown of what I paid:
Kit: $167.06
Wood: $442.94
Swing beam: $58.99 (had to special order a 4x6 beam)
Screws, lag screws, etc: $88.05 The lag screws included were not long enough for a lot of applications, so I used 4 in lag screws in addition to the other construction screws.
Slide: $30 (bought at a yard sale. Usually $100)
Extra climbing rocks: $30.99 (only 4 rocks rocks were included in the kit. Not enough for ANY wall)
Extra swings: $41.98 (there are 2 swings included, but spots for 4 swings)
Anchors: $21.97
So, overall, I spent $881.92 for this set. It looks much nicer than any other $900 set on the market! It's so much sturdier and it is so tall! It will grow with my boys until they are much older. Don't be fooled into thinking that you will be able to use this kit to make a really cheap swing set. You are still looking at $700-$1000 for everything. However, it will be much better than any pre-cut swing set you can buy.

The playset is AWESOME. The hardware is strong and the plans work well. It is a lot of work. And make sure you buy the screws also but the bolts it came with for the beams were nice and there was enough. You need a good saw and a couple days to cut and a couple days to build.

The product & how it was described was excellent. The time frame that they give for actual building is off a bit. We are not novices to building, and it took twice as long. The packaging and directions were good. Can always be improved, we are both engineers so understood the materials list. Some one who does not have a background in building may have a difficult time with it.
Overall very well put together. Only one issue with the entire package, the number of bolts included were stated as the number in the package, but not the right amount required to fully assemble the brackets enclosed. The directions were lacking as to when to attach the remaining screws.
It was a fun project to build, and the grand-kids and our guests & their families are enjoying it too. A great value over all!

My grandsons LOVE this playset. Said it was the BEST EVER IN THE WORLD! My son and his friends, I believed, enjoyed being able to put it together from the plans and watch it become a reality. It took ALOT longer than the projected number of hours but we are extremely happy with how sturdy it is. Felt like they have a $4,000 playset for about $1,000 (wood and kit). We did the more involved one and the slide that is in the picture did not fit that one. The more involved version (510) is higher and we needed the curve slide as the opening is 5' off the ground instead of 4'. We also did not do the ladder and put the climbing wall in that spot with a cargo net off the even higher end in the back. Have 3 boys and really needed 3 swings - they were so excited when the 3rd swing went in. NO PARK ever has 3 swings together!!! Could not be more pleased with how we could customize it to what we needed and to be so sturdy. Thank you!!!

Good solid item, but don't expect it built in the 5-10 hours they say
The entire reason I bought this kit was so I could upgrade the wood holding it all up and also so it will last a while. The complete kits sold are mostly made entirely by 1x's. The "rapid-lock" brackets weren't near as well built as I expected. First, they were all supposed to be alike and we found stamping errors where the TOP wasn't really the top, due to how it interlocked with its matching bracket. Also, the instructions were okay but it left out certain details. If you aren't an avid builder it will be trickier. Overall this took 40-45 man hours in total. I had several guys help me over the span of 3 days. Happy with the finished product but it took more work than a simple pre-built kit.

My second kit, It doesn't contain everything you need to put together
This was my second kit I've brought from HD. The first one was purchased about 7 years ago and had everything I needed. This kit (same manufacturer) said it had everything you needed but that isn't true. After opening the box and starting the assembly I found that the kit does not include the 2 1/2", 2" or 1 1/2" wood screws (purchase separately). This was not the case in the first kit i purchased which had more then enough. I had to stop everything and run to the store to get over $40 worth of screws (two trips). It would be nice if they tell you upfront or just include them and raise the price. The first kit was about the same price (had everything). Also, some of the instructions were misleading. It took a lot longer to assemble so plan 2 days. Otherwise the boys love it and it looks great.

Make sure you count all the pieces before you start.
It's a good thing we bought this several weeks before we planned to put it together and did a quick count of all the parts. We had to call their customer service dept and have them ship us several missing items, which they sent us within a weeks time. Their customer service group was very professional and they were able to send us the missing parts with no issues. We did the optional ladder and on assembly day realized the kit contained 5 right brackets and 3 left brackets instead of 4 each. My husband was able to make it work with a little creativity. The quality of the product is great and the finished product is very sturdy and looks great. I would recommend that the kit manufacturer do a another QC of the parts before the kits are shipped to the retailers. The finished product is nice and my son loves it.

Great Playset!
A great playset for the kids!!! One of the most sturdy playgrounds I've seen. Instruction were very clear. It took 2 people about 2 full days to cut lumber and assemble it. We decided not to leave the bottom area open for a sandbox and purchased extra lumber to make another play deck down there. After purchasing kit, lumber and accessories, I think we finished the project at around $900. A similar playset from a playground company would have cost at least $2000. I definately recommend this set to anyone that is familiar with tools, your kids will love it!

Good roof
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is our second one, as we needed to replace our original after about 3 years. My only suggestion is, if these roofs came in more color options, solids.

Really well designed and good instructions for the most part. As others have mentioned this is very sturdy and I have had 3 grown men on this and it was solid. I highly recommend this over some of the precut swing sets.

The materials arrived. The lumber to complete the set priced out at just under $900.
I would purchase again, but I also do not like the fact that the image on the Home Depot site shows eight (8) climbing rocks but the set arrived with only four (4).

incomplete/incorrect directions
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] this product falls short of expectations. I followed the cut list and still was short materials. the brackets are week and flimsy and i do not trust them. the set is very unstable if assembled as directions show. some of the decking supports have nothing holding them up.

Not enough 2 1/2 inch lag screws. Only enough to do the bottom brackets which is trash. Yall see how its pit together and dont even send enough lag screws to do the job, I spent 60 f-ing dollars for three boxes of lag screws that should have been in with the kit. Still currently building it
