I originally wanted to get a pedestal model, but because of space limitations I went with this benchtop model and am glad I did. Beyond the minor fence assembly it worked great right out of the box. The blades didn't need adjusted and getting the fence squared up to 90 only took a few minutes to sort out. So far I have not been disappointed. Lots of power and clean accurate cuts through maple, walnut, and oak. You will definitely want to use dust collection with this unit.

Sloppy Jalopy
This was one of the top reviewed jointers when I bought it. After a few uses I've noticed the indeed table likes to slip, adding 1/32 to 1/16 of depth and causing chatter and lack of uniformity over several work pieces. In my frustration I ran a piece over without checking it and knicked the knives on some staples. Now I'm discovering what a pain it is to change the knives

Machine has plenty of power and does not bog down under load. However the fence locking/tilt mechanism is complicated and awkward and the setup instructions seem to be written by someone who had never actually setup the machine; many gaps in the instruction. The depth of cut mechanism also has a tendency to loosen during use and this has great impacts on the piece you are working on. Keep an eye on this or your stock could be ruined. A locking mechanism on the infeed table would be preferred.

It was pretty much setup out of the box. The tables are solid and the fence is okay. Directions for fence is kind of hard to understand. Works great on hardwoods like purple heart without burning of having any tare out.

    Great Benchtop Joiner
this is my first jointer for a small workshop. I have to agree that the instructions are not the best but it's not impossible to figure out setup. you're supposed to setup the cutter head to where your material moves less than 1/8" evenly across the cutter head. I spent a lot of time adjusting but I'm very happy with the jointed boards this joiner produced. I also bought the Delta planer and both machines worked well. I like the cast iron parts compared to its competitors in the same price range.

Tool is very solid and works well. Very pleased. Have to agree with other reviews in that the blades are a pain to adjust--although this is my first jointer so have nothing to compare to.

Unpacked and found the exhaust connection on the jointer was in crumbles in the box. Although it was well packed, it still had damage. But, I assembled the exhaust connector to it the best I can and it will suffice. I'm not sending back for this as it is usable in all other respects. This jointer will accommodate my needs.

Bought this to replace a 300# floor model I had to leave behind when I moved 10 years ago. I have needed something for years, but couldn't afford to replace my previous one with like equipment. I found this Delta unit at a VERY good Christmas price and so I bought it. Despite the damaged packing (inner box only) the tool arrived undamaged. Assembly was quite easy and only took a few minutes. I did have to reset the blade depth, as the blades were slightly proud from the factory. I read one review where an individual destroyed the blade screws because they were "too tight" so I went into this expecting issues. Rather than bend up the factory wrench, I decided to use the right tool for the job... my Milwaukee M12 impact driver with a proper size impact hex bit. The screws came out easy-peasy. No muss. No fuss. It's amazing the difference the right tool makes! Got the blades adjusted to specs and tightened everything down. The next issue people seem to be having is dealing with the adjusting levers. I have read where people actually CUT an inch or more off the lever handles. Apparently they don't understand they are spring-loaded, and pulling on them disengages the 'clutch' mechanism and allows for realigning the lever for better torque. Duh! I did have to make an adjustment to the fence 90 degree stop, as it was not true from the factory. There IS an adjusting screw that allows the stop to be adjusted, but that adjustment was not covered in the instructions anywhere I could find. Nonetheless, it's pretty straight forward. There's a nut and a notched screw. Turn them until you get 90 degrees, and then lock the nut down. Simple! As for the 45 degree 'stop'... um, well, there isn't an adjustable one and I don't trust the way the 45 degree tilt works on this thing. I don't and won't use it anyway, so no problem there. The only thing I can find that was a major fail on this unit is the dust collection port. It's 2 3/8" OD. Standard shop vac hoses are 2 1/2" OD. There's simply no way to get the 2 hoses to mate. I tried a standard vac hose coupling, and it wouldn't fit. I've spend a considerable amount of time searching for something that will work, and I'm sure I'll eventually solve the problem... but come on? How hard would it have been to make the port compatible with the standard shop vac hose that millions of people already own? As for operation... the unit is surprisingly quiet, and does an excellent job on everything I've run through it so far. All in all, this is a great jointer. It's very solid and quite heavy. I'm quite pleased with it, especially considering it cost under $275.

UPDATE: ... Someone asked about changing the blades.. After a few months of using the jointer continuously, it struggled when I tried to square some very hard sycamore. Time to change or hone the blades I thought…. But undoing the screws to remove the factory set blades was absolutely impossible. They were torqued so tightly that they were impossible to unscrew. The hex wrench that comes with the jointer was useless. It just bent, and I ended up rounding off the tip. Other hex wrenches I had either destroyed the screw head or the wrench so I decide to call Delta tech support. They were not much help…. suggesting to hit the screw head hard with a screwdriver. In the end they gave me a number for a local Delta authorized repair shop. The service guy insisted that it would be $60 just to look at it and to remove the screws, $30 more to install and reset new blades…..- Delta said it would be covered under warranty. Apparently this is a common problem. In the end I used a screw-extractor set from Home Depot and replaced the screws with Phillips head S/S 3/4” machine screws. I replaced the blades with new ones and honed the originals using a jig and various grades of wet/dry sandpaper - ending up with 2000 grit. The jointer is working great again and I’m very impressed with it. But be warned that changing the blades for the first time is a huge pain.

I received this jointer as a gift. On assembly, the rough casting finishes and overall appearance gave me the impression of inferiority. Trying to put it together and going through the manual, my suspicions grew worse. The assembly instructions are not well illustrated or written - pointing you to wrong diagrams and missing some information. Wrong sized Hex screws are illustrated. After wrestling with the fence assembly I tried to adjust the fence to exactly 90º to the table. This was not easy as the fence locking assembly is difficult to use to say the least. But I got there in the end and tightened it as much as I dared. A few test pieces later though, I changed my mind about how good this jointer is. The results were quite impressive! I used a 10" length of plain old standard Doug. Fir 2 x 4 . I took about 1/16 " off all sides to make it square and true with very clean cuts... Quite impressive. The trick is to spend the time to set the fence *exactly* 90º. I don't think I'm going to move mine any time soon as it's perfect where it is! So - for just over $300 and about the cheapest jointer on the market, it's not that bad. It's a pain to put together and adjust, but its capable of producing some very good results.

"Jointer arrived damaged; outfeed had a puncture at the end of the table. The screw hole in the dowel clamp for the handle was drilled to overlap with the slot in the rear fence support such that the handle would not seat into the dowel clamp. The manual specifies certain screw sizes in the contents description, but specifies different screw sizes (i.e. not listed in the content description) when describing the assembly. Did no get far enough to assemble to try it out, but saw enough to deem the jointer inferior in manufacturing to return and purchase a different jointer.
