Not reliable
I bought this product because small dishwashers (i.e. 18") are so much more expensive than large ones (i.e. 24"). But it broke down in just over a year. Very few repairmen service this brand and it was a pain to just locate one. The cost of the repair ($250 or so) ended up washing away any kind of savings I initially thought I was getting. This is a piece of junk.

Never buy Danby again!
Right from the start, I thought the shipping time was way to long. Second after installing my NEW dishwasher, (and Yes I do have much experience in plumbing and electrical), First on startup it leaked. So here I am now weeks later still waiting for warranty service to replace the sump in the bottom of the dishwasher. The service guy said, "It could take 5 to 7 days to get the part". It only took sevice over a week and 2 appointments to get here. So now who knows, what another 2 weeks before I can use my new dishwasher! Never buy another Danby appliance again!

Great little unit
Going on 4 years of regular use with my Danby. It's the perfect size for us and our little house. Sleek, compact looking. Cleans very well, surprisingly so, we use the liquid detergent since pods would be overkill in a unit this size. It is a bit on the noisy side (or maybe that's because of the size of our house - you can hear everything all over) but to compensate we use the delay-start timer so it runs late or night or after we've left for work. Minor complaints, it's impossible to fit a standard wine glass on the top rack (which is not adjustable) or using the "wine glass inserts" provided with the unit. Like the 8-min "rinse" cycle, good for a quick rinse before the unit's full.

Great machine! Looks terrific, holds a lot, runs quietly with several wash options.
Since the dishes aren't completely dry when a cycle is over, it's best to leave them inside the closed machine overnight, or as long as possible, to avoid having to towel dry. Because I use bowls and odd-size dishes more than I use plates, the adjustable lower racks make it easy to load creatively.

      Worked Fine
This dishwasher isnt bad, took some hooking up and trial and error to get it running. Worked great for a week, then the pump housing started to leak. Should be covered under warranty which danby was a great help, but all of their repair people in my area are contracted out and dont seem to want to help. Either they dont work on dishwashers or i simply live to far away for them. All and all not a bad product besides the defective pump seal.

        higher quality then expected
Have only had it for weeks. so cant speak on reliability. however im inpresed with build quality. I like the digital timer and fully wrapped insulation oh and stainless steel tub. Ive installed quite a few regular sized units that dont have these features and cost as much. Had to buy an 18 for this house and was happy with it so far. Electrical box is very small to accomodate wire nuts and wire

        Danby 18" dish washer
The dishwasher says 18" but in reality smaller. It is a dishwasher and it works very well but you can't fit much into it. overall I would buy it again because It fit.

Most inexpensive 18" Washer I could find, works well
I was satisfied with this purchase. The unit was the most economical 18" washer I could find. I purchased this unit on sale under 400. Installation was easy, a few wire caps, and minor plumbing I performed myself . The connections for the electrical and water are in the front, so that's a little tricky to hook up and then move the unit in to place under the counter without pinching or kinking these connections. I finished this installation in a day. It included some cabinet demo and plumbing. I have a home owner level of home maintenance experience. The drain hose had to be extended as my installation location was about 10 feet from the drain connection, which has not caused any problems so far. I extended the hot water line from the sink as well with pex lines and connected with a braided line and adapter. Some thread tape, and a couple hose clamps for the drain hose coupler, and one at the drain outlet on the disposal. I also needed a hole saw to put holes in the cabinet side walls for the plumbing. These are routed at the back of the cabinet so they are not seen. Don't forget your air break, I routed my drain hose through the cabinet inner wall at a higher point than the drain outlet into the cabinet under the sink. This unit has been installed about a month. I would approximate 8-10 loads have been run through the unit. It cleans scraped and rinsed dishes well. I like the rinse only cycle on this unit that runs for about eight minutes if you are planning to not wash immediately. Cycle times are in the 2+ hour range for full loads. Other notes: Water supply pressure at our house inlet is 35psig, with additional head differences and filters further reducing this pressure at washer inlet. Pressure at the washer was not measured, however unit is functioning at current supply pressure. Water temperature at faucet was about 117F. I like the stainless finish on the interior, as apposed to painted steel.

          Danny 18" dishwasher
I'm amazed at the capacity and great cleaning capability. It took all dishes from thanksgiving with 8 guests including dessert dishes! It's pretty quiet too!

            Not so good
Out of the box one of the legs was bent so bad it couldn't be adjusted, the box was fine no damage. During wash cycles it drips water out of the door, the trouble shooting says it could be from the rinse additive or out of level so until the additive runs out I have a drip. The serial number isn't on the tag on the top of the door it's blank it's possible on the back of the dishwasher which is a pain since it's installed.

            Operating instructions need help
Had it for a month all good so far. The operating instructions I received didn't show which button corresponded to each washing cycle. Had to look on line for updated manual.

              Better than no dishwasher!
The dishwasher is good, it's what we could afford and what fit our available space. The manual could use a little work, refers to a dial which this model does not have, and the different modes are described only as text in the book, but only referenced as pictures on the dishwasher... so we have to guess what's what. All of the different modes run at least two hours, which seems really, really long. There's no option to turn off heated dry, which is too bad since it doesn't actually seem to dry the dishes anyway.

              Great for a small space
I purchased this model to fit into modified custom cabinets, it worked out great. Installation went smoothly. The stainless steel gives my kitchen an updated look. It was delivered to my local store quickly and picking it up was easy.

              Some weak points
Neither the top or bottom racks glide in smoothly. How can this be, when units have worked well for years. The instruction guide was not for this unit. It talked about a dial and this is a push button model. Even the quick wash setting takes over an hour. I wouldn't think of using the regular setting.

Not the same as they used to be.
This dishwasher was supposed to be a direct replacement to our 7 year old Danby 18" dishwasher that we loved. It is no where close to the same and it does not have any heat coils in the bottom and there for does not dry the dishes. They come out completely soaked. I really want to return this dishwasher! Also, the users guide is worthless.

The unit was defective and had to be returned to the store.
The price was great for a small dishwasher, but unfortunately, this one was defective. It would not drain completely and the control panel could not be set to run any of the selected features. This dishwasher is also much shorter and would have required some extra work to have it meet the height of the opening. The instruction manual was also not easy to comprehend-it was almost as if it was for another model. Home Depot was great with the return and we did purchase another brand and had them do the installation which was done very well.

              Good Product?
We remodeled our kitchen and just didn't have room for a 24inch machine. We were also thinking that we would save some money on this dishwasher as it had great reviews. I purchased and did the install myself. (I can assure you it's correctly installed after all the reading up I've done on the issue I've had). That said we ran our first cycle and got an E1 read out on the display screen. After research this means that the machine is not getting enough water to it (and after research is more common than one would think for this machine). I have checked water pressure (and there was a 24in dishwasher already in the kitchen that we sold to purchase this 18in to gain some room in our small kitchen) and ensured that there were no kinks in the hose. After calling Danby customer service they told me to try all the things that I had already tried and suggested that I look at the "inlet valve." I said but I've never used the machine, are you telling me you think the inlet valve may be faulty? And how would I know that by looking at it? She then told me that it couldn't possibly be the inlet valve since it was brand new. I said well then are you telling me to take it back? because I can assure you that I have adequate pressure and there are no kinks in the hose. She told me that I should take it back... There was no effort to remedy the issue, so Danby has lost a customer and I'll buy a more dependable brand... I hope. I will now go home tonight and pull it back out and return it to Home Depot (provided they will take it back...

              Too small; quiet; expensive
We needed to get an 18" dishwasher to fit a space in our existing kitchen. Few available; this one fit the space, at least. Installation was straightforward, and it runs pretty quietly. However, the inside is SMALL, and the silverware caddy openings are too small to fit most of our silverware. My recommendation is to make room for a standard 24" dishwasher if you intend to actually use it.

              Mostly pleased with it.
I love the looks and the quietness of it. The only thing is I do not care for the silverware baskets. Other than that I am very pleased with it.

              Great Product for the Price.
Reasonable Price for this smaller size dishwasher. Most of the dishwashers in this size were much more expensive. Is very quiet to run.

This washer is in a rental property. I have not used it personally, but so far everything is fine.
