[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice machine, ejects wood chips and dust too well, overpowering my dust collector, so it blows out. Also the dust collector adapter broke after three months. Really poor and under-designed. Bound to break. Otherwise I like it, and I owned other makes and types before.

This planer was great until the rear roller end literally sheared off. 3/4” solid metal sheared in two pieces. I believe it was from the planer being assembled wrong at the factory or the metal being sub par quality. The drive chain was insanely tight and over time broke the metal in two.

Everything about this planer is robust and easy to operate. The result is great and has little snipe, the handles make it easy to move and the screw remover it comes with even has a magnet to help lift out the blades when you need to change them.

Ran some Cherry Burl slabs through right off the get go... perfect results!!

Unfortunately arrived with a small crack in the base, didn’t think it would make a difference. Put the crank on and found the wheel was very hard to turn. Lowered it as far as I could and noticed the unit itself is not parallel with the bed.

It caught fire the first time I used it. Warranty covered the repair but I haven't gotten back to use it sence.

I bought my Dewalt DW735 planer about 8 years ago. I based my purchase on the many reviews that were posted at that time. It was rated one of the best if not the best planers. In the first 6 years I used it mostly in the winter months in my basement part-time. I am retired 2 years now and I regret buying it. Because I'm using it more often, I need to take the cover off and suck out all the accumulated wood chips that build up inside (see attached photos). Before, I didn't use it as much and it wasn't such an issue as it is now. The features and performance are great! Replacing the blades are a snap. The build up inside is ridiculous!! I've used it with and without my dust collector and it doesn't make any difference. I discussed this with my local DeWalt distributor and they are aware of the issue, but there isn't anything that DeWalt will do. It is so frustrating to have to take the cover off and try an remove all the wood chips, plus dig out the compressed chips in and around the chain and chain gears!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this 6 months ago because I could not buy a full size. I have never been happier, cuts so clean and smooth and when you change to 196 cuts. It is as smooth as using a scraper. Amazing finish. Use to cut Hardwoods all the time.

Bought this 4 months ago and wish I had bought it sooner. Great surface finish achieved in soft wood and hard woods. Easy to use, reliable and the surface finish you can achieve is amazing. I re-saw hard woods and this planer helps me to achieve a common final thickness for the re-sawn wood. My only issue the rollers reaction to the cold. is Dewalt needs to add a note to the instruction manual which explains when the feed rollers get cold, they will no longer grab the boards. I recently spend hours trying to determine what was wrong - finally did a web search and found the information on cold rollers. A small hear on them for a few minutes resolved the problem.

I would have given 5 stars but fails for two reasons. The Port adapter where you connect the dust collector hose broke where it snaps into place. The second reason is the exhaust port is in the middle of the unit where the outfeed table is. This may be why my port adapter broke. Note that I support the weight of the hose so this was not a factor in breaking the adapter. Simply put, the adapter should be made MUCH stronger. Debated spending the money for a few months and now I can't believe that I could have been planing with this thing all that time. It is a dream machine. I see zero snipe. How smooth it made some really old barn board? Incredible. It cuts through the wood like butter. Quality product that I would recommend to anyone and everyone. Stay clear of the wood chip exhaust; it really spits those things out with some force!

Worked out really well.

Blade replacement was straight forward. It took less than half an hour. The best part of it all was customer service. Pleasant and helpful.

For a DIY’r, this is a great tool. Very easy to set up and was calibrated perfectly right out of the box. Impressed with such a nice job it does. Wish I had bought this sooner.

the box was empty with no product. Very poor packaging from Home Depot. They say it was delivered and to argue with UPS who says poor packaging isn't their problem. Lesson learned is don't order from HD online.

I have had this planer for over two years and have planed everything from maple and oak to pine and fir. It does an mazing job and with the infeed and outfeed tables installed and adjusted, I get no snipe at all.

I did maybe less then 15 passes total on soft woods, some did have knots. Already have a chip in a blade.

Weighing in at nearly 50 lbs, this compact bench top planer is a beast to wrangle. The manufacturer's advice to mount it to a coupon of plywood is great advice, although the inclusion of compatible mounting fasteners would have saved me the task of digging through my jar of disorganized machine bolts. Once up and running though, it cuts through tough lumber like butter - even rock-hard, century old black walnut. I found the addition of the optional, very sturdy folding table useful, even for small parts as it eliminates snipe. I found this to be a great all-round reliable and easy-to-use unit right out of the box. You'll need a good chip/ dust collector and some hearing protection.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works great. Only downside is planer blades (which aren’t cheap) become dull fairly quickly, especially doing lots of hardwood. Still beats a hand plane!

Great planer

The dewalt 13-inch thickness planer is a great entry for household planners. I build a lot of cutting boards and needed to refinish 1200sq ft of trim around a house and the planner did great. It saved me a lot of time sanding by just removing a small amount of material to get back to virgin wood.

My son installed the blades, quick and easy.

I am trying to remove the chain tensioner so I can replace the belt (after 17 years, it failed) but the PHILLIPS screw stripped and I can't get it removed. First, why is it a PHILLIPS instead of an allen head screw (like the rest of the screws in the machine)? Second, its so tight it feels like thread lock was used (the 2 4mm allen screws also seemed to have thread lock because they "popped" when broken). If so, what were you thinking? Good thing I was able to use the allen wrench to put some torque on the screw so it would loosen. Third, now that the tensioner screw is stripped, I've tried several techniques to get the screw out - but I can't get the screw to budge. Any ideas how to remove this screw without damaging the screw receptacle?

I'm replacing the armature and field for the third time! Of course, as I had it for more than a year Dewalt will not help. Their new slogan should be, "Dewalt, high-end prices for low-end tools."

The 13" knife thickness planer cuts through all wood types as smooth as butter. Along with leaving a fantastic finish, this planer is extremely easy to operate. The chain drive makes lowering and raising the head a breeze. I love how easy it is to change the blades as well. The top comes off with only 4 screws and reveals the easily accessible cutter head shroud that has 3 hand loosening wing nuts for easy removal. I love this planer!

Too difficult to see if this can do planner-work for making tables from 48(45) x 98(95) mm planks up to for instance 48 x 198mm, by planning the short sides, when sandpaper is good enough for the whole width table. ... Hand-planner does not make good enough planning quality, and planning by pushing down towards the spinner and metal-top, is hard to find on the marked for hobby users or a bit more than that. ... Images lacking, and closer zoom does not tell if this is cm or inches.
