We have a small wooden gate for our picket fence and had installed the self closing hinge in order to keep our dogs safe in the yard. The hinges worked great until winter came around. Anytime that it rain and froze the hinges would cease to function properly, as far as self closing, and would sometimes resist closing the gate at all. we believe that the ice gets in and disrupts the self closing mechanism when it rains and freezes. Added a second set to increase the capabilities, did not help

So far so good on a complete cedar fence. These are holding up well to cold wet Indiana and are holding their automatic closing pressure. Typically this can fail quickly requiring more or less tension to close the gate but this has held its place without any adjustments. I am really liking the quality thus far because it holds it place and does not move or shift. I do recommend larger\longer screws.

If you are looking for a vinyl and wood gate hinge, this seems to be made of some very strong material that leads it to be quite sturdy! Overall pretty happy with this hinge as we needed to replace our current hinges on our exterior door. I do wish in some cases that the predrilled holes were a bit further to the edges but I was able to work through that by drilling my own holes into the piece.

The Tru-Close black self-closing wood gate hinge is a quality product. We've been using this for about a month now and have appreciated its usefulness. Before installing this, our gate would remain wide open at 180 degrees so our dogs could get out. I wanted something to close it in case that happened. The hinge was easy to install and has worked well so far. I have a 4' tall by 4' wide wood picket gate so ours does not have much weight to it. I didn't want to remove the original more decorative hinges so I just added these in addition to the others to use the gate close functionality. The instructions say to install both, but I only installed one. It closes the gate well each time. The first few times it shut it completely so that it latched. After owning it for a month, the springs seem to have loosened. It closes it, but does not have the force to slam it onto the latch. It is an easy adjustment though. The one negative I have about this is that it is hard to open the gate to 90 degrees. It makes a creaking sound and is requires extra strength to open. Our garbage cans are behind this door so it can be a chore to open past this point in order to get them out. I guess it is a trade off though if I want to keep the gate shut.

These Black Self Closing gate hinges are adjustable for how much spring force you want on the closing speed. They have a nice design and appear to be made of high quality plastic. The package says it is a polymer construction. The internal spring is Stainless Steel and has a limited lifetime warranty. It is rust and corrosion proof. These hinges can support up to 66 pounds for a 3 ft wide x 5 ft high gate. I have used metal self closing hinges before and like them. However, I like that these are made of polymer and stainless steel and are rust and corrosion proof. These should last for a very long time. Black 1 in self drilling screws are included.

This Tru-Close gate hinge replaced some old, rusty hinges on a wood gate. The weight limit for the Tru Close is 66 lbs. and although I didn't weigh the gate, it has to be pretty close to that limit. So I wasn't sure if the included wood screws would be strong enough and I wasn't sure the self closing hinges would really self close. It all worked out great though, the screws held and after adjusting (increasing) the tension, the gate closes on its own. Adjusting tension requires only a flat blade screwdriver. While I don't know how the well the Tru Close hinges will hold up after a few years exposed to the weather, I know they won't rust, they look good, and were very easy to install. If you're concerned about the weight limit, Tru-Close makes similar hinges that can support more than double the weight of these.

Small size with heavy weight rating, plastic body with steel internal spring which is adjustable from the top or bottom. Overall the hinges seem to be well-made with good plastic framing on the body but since the adjuster is open at the top and the spring inside is steel, it seems that water will constantly run into the spring and cause it to rust over time. Time will tell but my gut tells me it will freeze up if not oiled regularly over time.

These seem to be very sturdy hinges for vinyl material. They are large and made to be part of the finished look not blend into obscurity. The self closing mechanism is very tight and I would think should close even very heavy gates or doors. The screws come with it, but here in Florida I am opting for buying a larger screw anyway. Just a note the hinge is too wide for a 1 1/2 inch surface like the short side of a 2 x 4.

Regular duty hinge. Black finish matches the D&D latch set. Both hinges will close up to 66-pound doors. Adjustable for weight of door and speed of closing. The packaging states for 3 ft by 5 ft gates. Polymer hinge plates are large 5-1/8 in. x 3-3/4 in. and control the gate. Easy to install and sealed well for long life without lubrication. Adjustable from either end of the joint. The adjustment is done by depressing hard on the joint and can be adjusted in incremental levels of tension.

Have a vinyl gate to the back yard. It's pretty heavy so I was worried this hinge (pair) wouldn't work well. Well it exceeds my expectations. No issue handling the gate and closing well. No droop, solid construction. There is a tension spring that can be adjusted. I have it at it's lowest setting to still close the gate (to slow it down). Works great!

Hinges work great and we’re easy to install. I decided to use my own screws since my gates are fairly large and the hardware didn’t look sufficient for the project. Otherwise everything working great so far.

This seems like a quality pair of hinges. Previously I had some 24" springs mounted to the front of the gate to close it... And you knew with a loud bang every time the gate was closed. Now after installing these spring loaded gate hinges I was able to adjust the gate so it closed firmly and without slamming. Made of heavy duty plastic they should hold up to the weather without a problem. Switching them out was easy.. Since the gate was hung already.Adjust tension with a screwdriver by pushing down & turning. A good set of hinges at a fair price.,

ALTHOUGH MY GATE DOOR IS AT LEAST 85 LBS AND THESE HINGES ARE DESIGNED FOR 66 LBS. THEY SEEM TO PERFORM JUST FINE. I INSTALLED THEM ALONG WITH ORIGINAL NON SPRING LOADED HINGES THAT WERE THERE FOR OVER 3 YEARS. THEY COMPLIMENTED THE OLD HINGES AS TO HELP CLOSE THE THIS DOOR AT MINIMUM TENSION ADJUSTMENT. THESE HINGES SEEM WELL MADE AND BEING VINYL, I WILL NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT RUST. I DON’T KNOW HOW LONG THE SPRING TENSION WILL LAST, BUT SO FAR SO GOOD.

Aboyt 1 year ago we installed these hinges on our deck gate to confine our dog. They worked very well up until today. Then, boom, they would not close the gate. Went to HD and bought a second pair for $42.47. Kind of pricey for hinges lasting a year! When they work, they work well.

EXCELLENT HINGES REALLY EASY TO INSTALL AND THEY LOOK REALLY GOOD

My old hinges rusted and the gate fell off after about 6 years. So about a month or so before Ian, I bought these bad boys for a 5 ft wide, 6 ft high vinyl gate. We replaced the old hinges with these after scrubbing all the rust stains away. They are so sturdy that my fence was gone as were the gates and a few posts but my trusty hinges were still attached to the leaning post. Well, almost 4 mos later I had my fence redone and I insisted these hinges get re-used. Upon completion I noticed they had put those crappy metal hinges back. Tried to tell me they were stronger. Nope, I KNOW these are strong, sturdy and had them exchange the stuff they hung with these they had thrown away! Gasp! After they changed them and put my polymer tru close hinges back on, I am a happy camper. After seeing people give these less than 5 stars because they don’t know if they’ll hold up is ridiculous. You can’t give a review oh what may or may not happen or based on a “feeling”. I’m here to tell you, I have these hinges and can testify that they made it through unscathed from a major hurricane here in Southwest Florida. I would easily buy again and recommend them to anyone who wants a clean looking, non rusting, sturdy hinge for their gates.

I love these solid self closing hinges. They are holding up a wooden gate well and always close. I no longer have to worry about the kids accidentally leaving the gate open and our small dog getting out.
