It probably won't last a lifetime but this is a very good, feature packed and easy to use machine. Love the assortment of feet and accessories, automatic threader, and comprehensive user manual. I'm a guy, "in-between" a lot of sizes and got tired of spending money on clothing alterations. Using youtube and books, I've improved my skills and done sewn pants/shorts hems, shirt hems (rolled hem foot takes practice, but is awesome), button repairs (button foot), and general garment repairs. Next I want to learn blind stitch hems, and make some things for around the house. Even if this machine dies tomorrow, it's already paid for itself twice with the money I've saved. If you are a seamstress or a fanatical quilter, you'll probably want something else. If you are a person who wants to have a machine at-the-ready for repairs and occasional projects around the house this is a good machine for that.

First machine
I found getting set up more difficult that expected. I knew absolutely nothing about sewing machines and how they worked. My biggest error was missing the bobbin thread tensioner, I found the pictured instructions too vague. Finally got help from online friends and youtube videos. I think an included dvd with the machine would have been a big help.
Otherwise,the machine seems great.

Perfect for my sewing needs
When I started looking for a replacement machine for my old Singer I hadn't even considered a Brother until I found the XL 2600i. It had exactly what I needed and none of what I thought was over kill and it was at a very affordable price. The large dials and reverse switch are great and with my failing sight I love the needle threader. So far I have used it with most kinds of fabric including jeans and it just walked right over the seams with no problems. I had it up and sewing ten minutes out of the box. I love this machine.

Very happy with this machine
This is the first sewing machine I have owned and I've taught myself to sew with it. Very easy to use when learning, easy to thread (takes about 30 seconds to thread). As I've gotten into more advanced projects I've purchased a few accessory feet and the machine has kept up with all my needs. I like the drop-in style bobbin but I find that just sticking the top thread through the needle is easier than trying to use the little needle threader hook to pull it through. It works the same either way so I just ignore the needle threader. I've brought this machine traveling with me and others have commented how light and portable it seems, which it is, yet it always stays firmly on the table when sewing. Overall I think it's great for beginning to intermediate sewers and I would recommend it.

Sweet little machine
I recently started sewing again after retirement. I probably made my last project 30 years ago. I was amazed at the capabilities of this new little machine. Skeptical due to the price and plastic parts, I've made several beautiful pieces on this machine, even if it doesn't weigh the same as a small SUV like my old machine. Progress is beautiful!

Loving it
I am so excited with my sewing machine. I must admit I was worried that I wouldn't be able to figure out all the things it can do, but the more I use it the more I'm learning. The only thing I didn't like and it wasn't about the machine was the instruction manual. It could of been laid out differently, all English in one section, and then the Spanish in another. That's the only thing.

great little machine
I did not have any experience sewing beyond watching my mother over 20 years ago and I got this for Christmas. I have been using it quite a lot. The controls are very intuitive and easy to figure out. Threading the needle and the bobbin are also very intuitive. Sometimes the needle does come unthreaded. I am not sure if it is something I am doing or not, but since it it easy to rethread it's not an issue for me. All I. All a great machine for basic at home sewing. Not sure if it would stand up to heavier fabric but since I don't do that, again, not an issue for me.

Great little machine
I found this machine simple to use right out of the box. I quickly figured out how to wind and thread the bobbin and the automatic needle threader is a nice feature. I was able to switch easily between stitches, and used a stretch stitch on my first project. I got a great price and free shipping. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Aweome sewing machine.
I purchased this sewing machine as a Christmas gift for myself. It is great! Had a little trouble with the auto needle threader, but I will figure it out. As someone who has not used a sewing machine in over 30 years, this one is perfect. I have used it once and plan on using it a great deal more. Great purchase. Well worth the money.

Great machine
I have bought 4 of these machines and plan to buy at least 2 more. I use them at a summer camp for girls teaching them to sew and at church for children to sew clothes for Haiti children. It is a great machine for the price and more extras on it than needed. The foot pedal has the capability to stitch slowly unlike most inexpensive foot pedals. The young sewers (8-13) want to sew slowly until familiar with the machine. Just LOVE this machine!

Great Machine
Love this machine, as a beginner I didn't want something that was too difficult or techy to figure out, this machine fits that bill perfect. I love the top loading bobbin as well. I haven't figured the automatic threader as it is hard to see what is going on, but threading it the old fashion way works just as well. Great machine!

I'm excited now.
The reason that I am excited is I have a new sewing machine. I have always had Singers machines before. I saw a picture and a description of my Brother XL2600i in a catalog. It sounded fantastic, so my husband ordered it. In just a little over a week, the machine was at our house. When I took it out of the box to set it up, boy was I surprised. The instructions book and the machine were very easy to read and set up was a snap. I couldn't believe that I was setting it up by myself. From step one to finish, I did the complete set up. I sewed a curtain for my brother. He said it looked great. I am ready to finish a couple of other projects now and keep myself busy instead of just doing it as a hobby. Thanks, Brother, for a renewed interest in sewing!

Brother XL 2600i
I purchased eight of these machines to take on a mission trip to Nicaragua. This is a good basic mechanical machine. The advantages that convinced me to buy this were the price, weight and one step button hole. While it has a few built in decorative stitches and automatic needle threader, it is a beginner machine that is dependable and simple to use.

Excellent for Beginner and Medium skilled Sewers
Having not sewed for 30 years, I decided I would throw my self back into the craft. But I did not want to invest to much to begin with. I absolutely love this machine. I am making Quilts for three babies on their way, and wanted something sturdy enough. This lightweight machine is excellent. The only problem I have is when ever I change the threads or bobbins I have to adjust the tension. This is my problem, not the machine. If you want to learn or teach someone to sew. this is an excellent choice.

Essential Bachelor Tool
The bachelor essential, the perfect tool for those that need a utility machine for small projects and repairs. The programmed stitches give it the range for skilled projects too. It does more than basic needs and is easy to use. A little effort and YouTube videos make most projects or repairs do-able. The included attachments give one great range for repairs and projects. Small, lite and user friendly. It will save huge amounts of money in repairs and lengthen garment useful life.

Brother comes through again
I decided to buy an extra sewing machine since I had started teaching sewing lessons in my home and some of the students didn't have a machine. After looking at several different types and brands, I decided on this one, and because of the price, I bought two of this model instead.
Since I already have a Brother sewing/embroidery machine and haven't ever had a bit a trouble with it, I knew that it would be a good buy.
However, I was wrong. It was a GREAT buy! This little guy will sew like nobody's business and is easy to use, change stitches and everything you could ever ask for from a machine.
The only thing that I don't really enjoy from this is that the free arm/storage box isn't enclosed so that the accessory pack could get lost if there are little ones around, like at my house. Other than that, I would recommend this machine not only for beginning seamstresses but for anyone. It's lightweight and easily moved.
I just can't say enough wonderful things about this model, especially since my sewing students have been using it weekly for 2 months and I have been using it in the interim due to my "old faithful" machine going out on me. This is a very wise buy, I can't recommend it enough.

Really Disappointed
I bought this machine about 4-5 years ago to replace a 30 year old Singer. I though it would last longer than it has. This machine was very lightly used. I lost interest in sewing for a while so I only made a few repairs, a couple of alterations, a Halloween costume and four aprons before it broke. It has lasted only 4-5 years before tension has just disappeared. It's not worth it to take it to be repaired as it cost under $100. I am now going to replace it with a Singer.

XL2600i
I just received my machine for my birthday. It is easy to use for a beginner. The only trouble is learning to use the needle threader. My eye sight is good but I have a hard time doing the loops around the 2 hooks and slipping the thread out of the loop of thread that goes through the needle. Can you give me suggestions for making it easier for less nimble fingers of mine ?
