This is a excellent compost, i have been using this since last 5 years and have been very happy. Start of this year i added 10 bags per box ( I have 10'X8' 7 boxes), this year by far have been best yield of the veggies, so much that family wants bigger freezer. Next year i am going to try Black Hen mix with Black Kow. A must mix for the garden.

My individual experience with Black Kow was disappointing. I purchased two bags of Black Kow when I discovered material I did not expect to find. I contacted the company, got the run around and no one contacted me. I provided my reciept, date and location of purchase then I was told that a company rep "There may be some small gravel in the Kow however it should be no larger than ½ inch. We run our Black Kow through a ½ inch screener which should discard anything larger. Apparently there was a problem with our quality control and I do apologize for this. "
2 stars for the product overall
Minus 1 star for gravel and rocks
Minus 1 star for company quality standards and consumer service
Minus 1 star because of the work I had to do.

I purchased this product, Black Kow Composted Cow Manure, to mix my own potting soil this spring season, 2017. The recipe would be 5 gal perlite, 5 gal vermiculite, one block of compressed coconut coir expanded per instructions by adding moisture then draining to a near dry form, and two bags of Black Kow Compost. The Black Kow compost is nothing more than clay soil and no matter how long I worked the mixture the clay will not reduce into the mix. I have found gravel (rocks) in the Black Kow as large as my thumb and I am now sifting the clay-based Black Kow out of my soil mixture. The B. K. compost doesn't break down even when submerged for several days in water. A disappointing amount of time and effort wasted on a truely poor product. I can't imagine anyone needing a clay based compost for the garden. I plan to upload a video demonstrating the poor quality on Y.T. under the name "Moes Black Kow Fiasco".

My husband LOVES this stuff!
My husband plants a container garden each year and he cannot say enough about Black Cow. He mixes it in with the existing soil; along with fish emulsion and kitchen compost. His vegetables grow well with little or no weeds. It contains organic material with a make up of 0.5-0.5-0.5. The bag is 50 lb. so it can easily be carried out to our garden. They say it covers 12 sq. ft. per bag, but we only use it in our containers which are large animal watering troughs.
The 50lb. bag of Black Kow composted manure is an excellent value, and helps improve and aerate my clay soil in our dry and hot Southern California climate. The manure texture is moist and loose and the color is rich. Best of all, the product has no unpleasant odor. I will use it for all my newly planted flowers, vegetables, shrubs and trees. I highly recommend this high quality manure.
Two years ago I decided to add a section of Asparagus in an area of extremely poor soil right next to my raised bed garden. Knowing that the soil was terrible for growing anything, I prepped the area as best I could, blending in peat moss, horse manure, and the wood shavings from the chicken coop. The Asparagus came in and actually did O.K., but it just wasn’t anywhere near as healthy as I felt it should be…
Recently I blended in a 50lb. bag of Black Kow Composted Cow Manure and the Asparagus reacted well to it! Most of the yellowing has faded, the color is much better and the plants themselves appear to be much healthier.
The price is fairly reasonable, and the product does work well. My Asparagus LOVES it, and I highly recommend it!
This is REALLY good manure... but be SURE to "buy it by the bag"!
When purchasing separately: $5.19 per bag x 55 bags = $285.45
Offered as: 30 bags in half pallet = $274 (that's $9.13 per bag!)
Offered as: 55 bags on a per pallet price of $403 = $7.32 per bag!
SO... if you want 55 bags, just order separately, and SAVE $117.55 !!!
SOMEONE needs to learn the math at Home DePot... but I am hoping they hold the prices per bag thru Spring 2017, so I can get some more for my garden!
I also rented the Home DePot one ton truck for 3 hours... great way to get it all home and unloaded, ALL BY MYSELF!
The following day I also rented a Home DePot rototiller and worked it all into the ground! TaaDaa!!!

Compost
I use Cow Manure with other soils and materials. We are between growing seasons in SE Georgia, Zone 8. I mixed the manure with potting soil in a 2 gal container. I planted 4 sections of cucumbers. The mixture looks good and it doesn’t smell.
I also transplanted a 5 inch tomato plant into a 1 gal container with this mixture. It has shown good growth.
Now I will use the remainder of bag to till into a larger garden for winter collard greens. The compost also helps retain moisture.
View the info on the pics.
Amazing! Tilled in about 6" deep with the natural soil, my garden is going crazy, 5' tomato plants and everything else loves it too

Composted cow manure
The Black Kow manure is good healthy looking composted manure with no large sticks or other materials mixed in. Other reviewers have said that the manure doesn't look good and has foreign objects, i.e. large sticks, pine cones, etc. in the bag but I have not had that experience. I have put some manure around my peach, magnolia and blueberry bushes and they are doing fine. I plan on using more from the bag for my strawberries but the weather hasn't been cooperating. I do recommend this product.
This is good rich compost. A little heavier than the compost that I make, but then mine has no manure in it. I compost green waste and dead leaves.
There is no manure smell to it which means that it is thoroughly composted and just the nutrients remain. That's the part that nourishes the plants and that's what we want. It is so composted that it says that it will not burn plants if you plant right away. In other words, mix it into your soil and plant your plants without worry. The only thing that I know of that will not burn plants straight out of the animal, is goat droppings.
The 50 pound bag was too much for me to carry so I got a hand truck to move it to the pot.
Cow manure is one of the finest natural fertilizers. Even when exceeded amount is used there is no danger of plants getting burned. I checked the web site of Black Kow (0.5-0.5-0.5) manure manufacturer. The composted cow manure is coming from manufacturer's own CAFO plant.
For costumer's trust manufacturer posted on internet web page
http://blackkow.com/_html/howitsmade.htm#howmade_top_anchor showing all clean and safe processing during making composted manure. The composted manure in the bag is fine material of almost black color (see pic. 6). On back side of the bag are instructions for using product when planting trees and shrubs (pic.1) , for flowers and vegetables (pic. 2). Pic. 3 shows instructions how to handle this product in general. I spread this fertilizer around my perennials, which were last year quite neglected. Now their soil is prepared to give good boost to plants in spring time.
The Compost cow manure, as the name suggests is the animal manure product for your garden. Unlike the typical manure that stinks up your entire neighborhood, the Composted Cow Manure is almost odorless. I apply the compost in my lettuce bed, container, and tree to give them a boost of fertilizer. This is not an organic compost. The N-P-K (nitrogen-phosphorous-potassium) ratio is .5-.5-.5, not very high, so you don't have to worry about burning your plant. One thing I noticed that is the coloration of the compost. Compost usually have a dark color, but this compost seems to be on the light side. The composition is primary of wood chips and manure. The back label reads: "derived primary from plant foods: cow manure". It's quite a heavy compost in terms of composition. It also contains many unbroken, large pieces of wood chips. If you planting tree, this compost could work for you. Otherwise, I would stick to plants base compost that container worm casting, bat guano, forest humus, etc...
I used these manure in my garden this spring, then covered them with organic top soil; my lettuce and tomato plants had never grown so big and so well! people were all impressed how strong my vegetables are doing. Please see a picture of my lettuces.

Best Purchase Ever
This was an excellent product I used Black Kow for my vegetable garden. In the areas where I spread it a lot it led to continuing bearing of fruits from tomatoes and even my potatoes. I love this product because of dark rich color and smooth yet rough texture. Finally, I would recommend this product to anyone because it's cheap price but great use every essential nutrient that flowers or vegetable plants needs it surely has. I WAS VERY WELL PLEASED

Most likely has harmful parasites
This soil killed so many plants or my plants have burn Mark's and one had black spots now. 2 bags were full of plastic crap, sticks, wood chips, rocks. This is supposed to be manure cow dung. Outrageous!!! These people are literally getting rich from selling garbage. As well as I probably got internal parasites from this, sometimes I handled it without gloves as it gets bulky and easier to deal with tiny seedlings by hand. Home depot needs to boycott this product

My yard was a hot mess. After spending $1000 and probably more for professionals to make it beautiful again was a disaster. I bought 20 bags of Black Kow. It is $5 a bag. Spreaded it on my lawn and in two weeks the lawn showed miraculous improvement. Purchased 10 more bags after a month, spreader it again and now I have neighbors who want to know "what did you do to bring your lawn back"? This stuff is totally awesome!!
