I had nad stains from many years of smoking and water damage. This paint covered it up in one coat. And the color remained consistent throughout. Much better than most other brands I've painted with in my opinion.

Where to begin? Maybe first by questioning the truth of these reviews? My experience with this paint is so bad that I can't fathom anyone rating this above a 2. I just got done painting a 10x10 office. And I am jacked up by how bad this experience was. A little background first. I painted professionally for five years and for three of those years I had a small business painting interiors and exteriors. That was quite a while ago and since then I have painted my homes by myself and have assisted family and friends with numerous painting project. So I am no neophyte. Given that background, this paint is the worst that I can recall painting with. I have used Behr in the past and my experience with their products has been very good to at the least passable. I don't know what has changed, but this Marquis paint is insanely overpriced give that the performance is about the worst I have experienced. I began cutting in the ceiling. After two dips of my Purdy 2 1/2 inch brush I knew something was wrong. The paint did not flow off of the brush. It dragged like I was painting with glue. So I added about an ounce (maybe less) of water to about a quart. After a few minutes I was slinging drips and drops of paint all over the place. Now, I am so experienced that I barely need to use drop cloths. I did have drop cloths down for this job. Nevertheless, I was finding paint on the floor, base molding, drop cloth - no mater what I did. So I went back to the undiluted paint. And paradoxically, while it felt like painting with glue, I was still slinging paint everywhere. I am used to dipping the brush about half way, slapping it against the side of the can two or three time (never rub it against the edge) and carrying the paint to the application area and painting maximal surface before re-dipping. It was impossible with this paint. It drags and does not come off the brush and, infuriatingly, drip everywhere. The coverage is terrible. Granted, I was painting a light brown over a medium brown, but it was not possible to get enough paint to come off the brush so that it did not leave a lot of bleed-through. I understand that you have two-coat with a roller to get good coverage. But I am experience enough to get away with cutting in once most of the time. That was impossible with this paint. Between cleaning up drips and having to cut in twice, it took twice as long. Rolling was, if anything, worse. I bought top of the line 3/8 inch nap roller covers. The paint would not come off of the nap uniformly. I would load the roller and a lot of paint would come off as soon as the roller hit the wall and just stick there. It it left a lot of paint in one place and would not distribute it evenly. I cursed and hated as I worked. The coverage was awful. I had to two-coat it and it probably should have had a third coat. The final surface was not smooth. In places the wall looked like it was faintly textured. There were some place where I use a paint scraper to remove the the paint that did not spread where the roller was originally place on the wall. I could go on... but I won't. So what is wrong with this paint? I don't know. Bad batch? Possibly. Behr screwing you based on a good reputation in the past? Possibly, give the state of screw-you capitalism in America. I don't know. But this paint is awful and it is insulting to have payed their insane price for this product. One other possibility - environmental concerns may have forced a reformulation? If so, well then, I can live with that. But I will try other products and see is this is just the current state of paint quality. Here is a picture of the surface after rolling...

Hi Pete,

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear about all of the issues you ran into with our Ultra paint! To fix the textured finish, I recommend lightly sanding down any unwanted texture, wiping the area down to remove the sanding dust, then touching up with more paint. We'd like to learn more about your project and we can assist you with this as well. Please feel free to reach out to us directly - we'd be happy to help. - Sara Behr

Behr makes outstanding paint. We've been using the Premium Plus Ultra in painting the bedrooms in our house and the results are terrific. We have kids so we use the satin enamel for easy clean-up. I've been using it with a paint sprayer and have had zero issues. The coverage is smooth, and the colors look terrific. It also dries very quickly and responds well to more than one coat. I think this is the best paint on the market, and have been using it exclusively for almost 7 years and have yet to be dissapointed!

Do not buy this paint color if you are looking for a gray color. When using the paint samples from Home Depot it looks gray, but this color has a very drastic undertone of lavender/purple once fully painted on a wall. We bought a 5 gallon bucket and are very disappointed with how this color turned out.

I have used Behr Premium Plus Ultra Paint many times now. It holds up very well for the price, compared to Benjamin Moore. It has excellent coverage and durability. VOCs are low. Clean up is what you would expect from a latex paint, Easy!

I have tried ALL other paints (Sherwin-Williams, Valspar, Glidden Etc.) and to me, NOT ONE of them can compare to BEHR. Behr Goes On so smooth and almost no splatter at all. There isn't anything I dislike about it. Whenever I need to paint, there is no other choice but BEHR! LOVE IT! I just painted my 3 granddaughters bedrooms (ceilings too) and our bedroom and living room at our house and I still have one more bedroom to go. To date, I have bought 17 gallons of BEHR PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA.

I used this paint for the wainscotting portion of the walls in the foyer, stairs, and 2nd floor hall. The foyer had been painted a "loud" brown matte and the remainder of the wainscotting was white satin. I used a brush because of the amount of the detail molding and used a roller in the center within the picture molding. The foyer required 2 coats to completely hide the original brown color. In contrast, only 1 coat was necessary for the stairs and 2nd floor hall wainscotting. All the areas painted using a roller dried evenly with the same consistency of the sheen. All the black scuff marks along the stairs had been completely hidden. I am satisfied with the performance of this paint. I had expected 2 coats would be needed to completely hide the brown used in the foyer. I am pleasantly surprised as to how well the paint hid the black scuff marks in the stairs. No additional touch-up was necessary. The satin sheen was consistent throughout without regard to the painting tool that was used. I wish I could rate this paint as 4.75 stars. I have used paint manufactured by other name brand companies, usually at twice the price, and have found this paint performed as well or better as all the others. The results of using Behr Premium Plus Satin Ultra © is superior to the most expensive satin paint manufactured by a company whose name starts with a "S". I have experienced serious problems with their paint adhering to the wall surface even after more than 2 weeks of a drying period. Also the satin sheen has not dried consistently throughout the wall. There are noticeable differences in the sheen based on the final direction taken by the roller. Because I anticipated to apply 2 coats to hide the brown color, I used the blue 3M © painters tape to mask the chair rail and base molding. It wasn't necessary to use the tape but I wanted to avoid an unnecessary build up of paint on the moldings because of my sloppy over painting. The paint on the walls and a small amount that had overlapped on the tape had dried by the time I removed the tape. The adhesion of the paint on the 2 surfaces caused the paint on the wall to peel in a few areas. I can guarantee that when paint gets a chance to dry before the tape is removed there will be small portions of the final surface that will peel off with the tape. It doesn't matter what paint brand or the color of the tape that is used. I have had similar results with the Frog © tape. The tape must be remove immediately if not sooner after painting the taped section. Otherwise it is a waste of time to use the tape.

I bought it to paint interior doors and door jambs. I sanded doors and door jambs smooth. When i finish 2 coats of paint, the finish didn’t feel smooth with 2 coats it feels almost like matte. The sheen was ok. I’ll Like how it sticks good and it dryes hard.
