Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the overlap marks on your patio! To fix the finish, I recommend allowing your first coat to dry for 24 hours as the extra dry time may allow the finish to even itself out. If the lap marks are still visible after additional dry time, I recommend applying a second coat with a pump sprayer, then back rolling the stain with a 3/8 nap inch roller for a uniform finish. Alternatively, a coat of our Solid Color Concrete Stain can be applied instead for a completely opaque look. So we can assist you with this further, please feel free to reach out to us directly. Thank you for reviewing Behr Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain. I'm very sorry to hear about the adhesion issue experienced, as it isn't typical or what we want our customers to go through. I understand how disappointing this must be, and I want to find a way to help.

The remaining stain can be removed with a stain stripper, power washer, or sander. For best results when staining concrete, we recommend etching with something like muriatic acid until the surface feels like 150-grit sandpaper. Higher porosity should allow the stain to penetrate better for longer-lasting results.

While this product does penetrate to the concrete, it's also film-forming. Keep in mind that for the stain to get absorbed, we'd recommend etching the bare concrete. The only difference between the Semi-Transparent and Solid Color Concrete Stains is the color opacity, so it sounds like perhaps you didn't like the look of the semi-transparent finish on old concrete(?).

Hi Mo, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear your stain's finishing color didn't look as blue as you expected, and was easily scratchable after your application; that's not the experience we want our customers to have with our products. To fix the scratched areas, we would recommend sanding down the affected areas until smooth, cleaning the surface with a concrete cleaner and degreaser, and allowing it to dry for at least 24 hours before doing your touch-ups. An overall recoat may be needed to uniform your finish and color. To verify that your colors was mixed correctly, we’d suggest checking that the physical color swatch matches the stain dab on your can's lid. If they match, the stain was properly mixed, and the color is correct. And in cases like this, the best solution would be to remove your current stain and reapply a stain in a different color. If the swatch doesn’t match the dab on your can’s lid, the color was incorrectly mixed. And we’d suggest removing your stain and recoating with one tinted to the correct color. If you'd prefer to not remove your current coating, you can recoat with our solid stain instead, as it provides a solid paint-like finish. Please keep in mind that different lighting will affect how a color looks and that our online color palette display and brochure colors may vary slightly from the actual colors due to color variances in monitor settings and the color of your wood, as there is transparency in the coating. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. Sorry to hear the stain didn’t turn out the color you expected! Since the color of the bare wood will influence the ultimate finish, color can vary from the swatches. It’s always best to start off with a sample to test in a small hidden area; this way, you know exactly what color to expect.

If you’d like to change the color and are open to a film-forming product, the project can be recoated with our Solid Stain without having to remove the existing coating. However, if you’re set on a semi-transparent finish, the deck would need to be stripped and cleaned before it can be recoated in a new color.
