Q:Is this product good for priming walls that had wall paper adhesive on them?
by|Oct 27, 2020

Answer This Question
A: That's a great question, Regman. When dealing with the wallpaper adhesive, you want to avoid using a water-based coating. This means the Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer and Sealer is a great choice for your application. This will help ensure that the adhesive doesn't reactivate and it seals it down appropriately. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1

Q:First timer taking on a challenge at home and wanted some advise would this product be okay to paint my opened wood exterior porch & railing after I scraped & sanded all the old paint. I didn't power wash my porch or railing due to small water leaks into house if I used a power washer. But repairs will be completed eventually. I just used a bucket with water and solution with a wet cloth to wipe everything down and then waited shortly for it to rain heavy assisting me in my cleaning task. I plan on using a Latex finish after all priming is completed.
Thanks, for your kind feedback which is greatly appreciated!

A: Yes this is an excellent primer to use on the raw wood after you scrape and sand all the loose paint off. After cleaning the entire project of dirt, duct, and it dries out, I suggest you use an exterior acrylic paint for your final coat.

A: Glad to help out, Beau. We don't recommend using Rust-Oleum Zinsser CoverStain Primer on a floor or deck because it is not a floor-grade coating and will not hold up well in that type of environment. It will wear away quickly. For priming, we recommend using Rust-Oleum RockSolid Deck Start Wood Primer as long as a solid topcoat will be used. Keep in mind that whatever topcoat you use is suitable for foot traffic.

Q:What are the temperature ranges for application, and how long before it can be rained on?
by|Oct 20, 2019

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for reaching out! Our Zinsser Cover Stain Low-VOC Oil-Based Primer should be applied when temperatures are between 40° and 90°F, and the relative humidity is less than 85%. It may be topcoated in 2-4 hours, and we recommend applying the primer when it will be topcoated prior to rain impacting the surface, as rain can introduce contaminants that may impede adhesion between the primer and top coat. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2
