A: Great question, Ken! Rust-Oleum Wolman Deckstrip ASR Acrylic Stain Remover is 100% biodegradable and safe for grass, plants and shrubs. We recommend pre-rinsing grass, plants, and shrubs surround the wood structure to be stripped, and then covering foliage to protect it from exposure to the product. Once the entire surface has been rinsed from the surface, make sure to rinse surrounding grass and plants thoroughly.

A: Happy to clear things up! The recommended remover will be dependent on the type of stain on the surface. Rust-Oleum Wolman DeckStrip ASR Acrylic Stain Remover is recommended for use on 100% acrylic solid and semi-solid stains and highly effective on these types of coatings. For oil or water-based solid, semi-transparent stain, or transparent finishes, we recommend Rust-Oleum Wolman DeckStrip Stain and Finish Remover.

Q:I bought acrylic stain remover when I meant to buy the oil base stain remover. Will the acrylic remover work on oil base
by|May 10, 2016

Answer This Question
A: No, to remove an oil-based product it is critical that the stripper contains methylene chloride. Wolman DeckStrip ASR contains sodium hydroxide, which will not affect an oil based coating.
by|May 3, 2023
A: Rustoleum support is 100% wrong. While i cannot attest to what is in this acrylic stripper I will tell you from owning a deck restoration company and completely stripping thousands of decks that sodium hydroxide is the chemical to use to strip oil based finishes. You should then follow with a brightener such as oxalic acid to neutralize the wood. NOBODY use methylene chloride on oil based finishes. Also, if this acrylic stripper contains sodium hydroxide as its stripping agent, it will not work on 99% of intact acrylics. We use industrial grade sodium hydroxide that will strip flesh from your body and even with that, most acylics are a very difficult strip.
