Whirlpool Corporation doesn't use steam in the drying process, we feel that steam is better used after the rinse prior to drying. Our dishwashers that offer steam use this option to remove oils and smudges like fingerprints from glassware and other items with a glossy surface. Our steam option not only removes these types of soils but also reduces and many times will eliminate spotting on glassware and like items as well. Thank you.

Instead of a rigorous short washing cycle, newer machines use a longer on-and-off series of washings using the same water several times. The newer method seems to help dissolve hardened food on dishes better.

A:  I'm not sure it would if they are right next to each other. We actually have black appliances and this was the first to break down. We liked that it had black on it and it's on the opposite side of the kitchen, so it seems to blend, plus our cabinets are very dark. It has a dull finish, so it doesn't have that "shine" that you get from stainless. I think it could work if there's some space in between your dishwasher and other appliances...plus, it's low to ground, it's not as noticeable as say a fridge. hope this helps!

A:  Absolutely! We have a universal silver dishwasher and fridge along side a stainless steel range in our home. The only real difference is that the universal silver is more smudge and fingerprint proof than the stainless and the universal silver is just a touch lighter than the stainless.

A:  I typically chose the heavy cycle along with the heating option for the drying cycle. On average, the machine runs 4 hours. But, it is very energy efficient and we have not noticed an increase in either our water bill nor the electricity.

A:  It depends on the cycle you set, there is a 1 hr wash but I haven't used it. It's so quiet that I don't know exactly how long it runs on the normal wash setting, but everything is clean as can be when it's done & that matters more to me than how long it runs. I LOVE THIS DW !
