Q:Can this be used with a shade? If so, is there a way to attach it so it doesn't fall off if used up side down?

A: Can be used with a glass shade, but not one with a wide base. The shade is held in place with a single piece that screws around the socket, not little screws on the sides. We tried a glass shade designed to be held in place with screws and it didn't fit. It was too big. Fortunately we happened to have shades that worked beautifully. (My goodness, your question was December 2016. So this may be a bit late :-)

A: This fixture can be used either in the up or down position and the shade is held on by a shade ring that comes with the fixture.

A: Yes, this fixture can be used on a dimmer when using incandescent light bulb. If you are using an LED light bulb, you need check compatibility of the dimmer and LED light bulb.
