A: Hello Senior! Yes, assembly is required, however, it is very minimal, and the grill can usually be put together in about 15 minutes. Thanks!
by|Apr 29, 2019
A: Yes. You have to put the handle together and put the vents on and assemble the tripod legs. Booklet gives direction but it takes from 20 - 40 mins. depending on how good you are in following directions.

Q:whats the difference between the premium and the not premium smokey joe grill? Is it worth tje extra $10?

Answer This Question
A: I bought the premium and it is worth the extra money. With this model your grill can be locked for carrying by pulling the metal handle up on top of the grill's wooden handle and it snaps on securely. The vent holes in the bottom I believe are the same as the regular one, a moveable lever opens and closes to adjust the air intake and regulate the temperature; and also you close the vents all the way to cool down the coals by eliminating the air. Great little product.

A: Hello Bella! The Smokey Joe Premium has a few different features than the standard Smokey Joe model, including a lid lock and vents positioned on the side of the unit, which help increase it's portability. Thanks!

A: No the lid isn't hinged but you can use the lid lock to support the lid while you flip or baste your food rather than setting the lid on the ground.

A: It doesn't have a hinge, but it does have tabs attached to the side whereby you can rest the lid in a vertical position, so it's just as good.

Q:Does the Gold have the vents on the bottom, with the plate to catch the ashes?
by|Jul 9, 2014

Answer This Question
A: The vents are on opposing sides where the locking handle attaches to the body. It is superior to the bottom vent in that you have more control over the flow through ventilation. No vent holes to get clogged up. The downside is that you lose the bottom ash catcher - you must dump the ashes by turning over the grill when cool.

A: Thank you for your question. The Weber Smokey Joe Gold has vents/air dampers on the side of the bowl so there is no plate below the bowl in the center. If you have any further questions, please contact Weber Customer Service at 1-800-446-1071.

A: yes.

A: No, this one has vents on the sides where the lid lock bar attaches. The other version simply called the Smokey Joe (#10020) has the bottom vent with ash catcher, but no lid locking bar (the version I have). I have read some people find the side vents bring the air in ABOVE the coals, which doesn't allow to burn the charcoal properly, so they end up going out prematurely. Don't know why Weber didn't simply put the locking bar on the bottom vent version. Maybe to make it cleaner to pack up in a car afterwards?

A: My answer would be NO because the metal does get hot. If accidentally turned over, it would burn the grass. Get a scrap piece of wood larger than the area for the grill and then you could place on the grass or place on a portable table as long as you don't have kids and animals running by it.
by|May 31, 2019
A: Depending on the height of the grass, probably but I would place a board or maybe a garbage can lid under just to feel safe.
