A: Proper draining, insulation using heat tape and heated protective enclosures are all acceptable methods of freeze protection. When draining an assembly to prevent freezing, several important points must be remembered: 1. The assembly cannot be adequately drained through the test air compress hookup. For proper draining follow the instructions detailed in the Drain Procedure section below. 2. Drain valves must be added on the inlet and outlet sides of the assembly, below the assembly (and preferably below the freeze line if the remainder of the system is to be drained).

A: You can replace either of the two ball valves with out affecting the operation of the PVB.

A: The pressure vacuum breaker is considered a backflow preventer that protects the potable water supply from potentially contaminated water. It was likely required by local code. Check requirements of local code before deciding to forgo the valve.

Q:The bonnet assembly is broken. I just bought the house and the new pressure vacuum breaker has a broken bonnet assembly so water shoots through the cap when I turn on my sprinkler system.

A: Repair kits can be special ordered through Home Depot, but they do not stock them. If the valve is less than 1yr old you can return it to The Home Depot and exchange it out.
