Q:Do I have to bend straight railing to get the proper angle for stair rails? If so, how easy is it to alter? Some reviews say the spindles break when altering for steps.

A: Using a post works best, as it gives a more finished appearance, but you can use an “L” bracket at the top. The bottom is a little problematic, as you will need to drill and use another L bracket. Two-point Mounting is needed to eliminate a fly end. All in all, a post is a better way to go.

Q:why does this say decorative only? Will it not meet building codes for deck railings?

Answer This Question
A: I don’t think it has anything to do with building code restrictions. It’s called decorative because of the spiral rails. If the rails were square tubing it would be considered plain.

Answer This Question
A: You might not want to—it’s made of lightly painted steel and will probably deteriorate quickly. Also, bracing would be an issue. It’s made to be fastened to a structure.

A: The material and welds are not of highest quality. If you are looking for something to be very sturdy keep looking. If you try to rake these panels I can almost bet you at least one weld will break. Are they easy to install... Sure. Easy to cut.. yes. Easy to bend, yes.
Just don't expect your grandma to lean up against them and then not get damaged.

A: I wouldn’t think so. The steel would eventually rust out. The only mounting application I’ve ever seen is between metal posts or mounted between wood rails with wood posts as shown in attached image

Answer This Question
A: I made use of the ornamental railing by integrating it with 4x4 posts mounted between 2x4 top & bottom rails, camphored the rails to remove square edges & dress up. This application makes for very strong porch enclosures. Also used on steps using same application. The ornamental can be easily bent such that the risers are vertical between rails

A: If you securely fasten the railing at both ends, this will also work on porches. I am using it as a step rail. In my other house I used it as both a step rail and a porch rail..
