Questions and Answers for VELUX Electric Light Kit for TGR, THR, TCR, TMR, TGF, TMF, and TLR Sun Tunnel Skylight in sizes 010 and 014

A:  Any skylight enclosure that seals is suitable for over shower installation, so the light kit can also be installed in it.

A:  With proper ventilation, a VELUX Sun Tunnel with light kit would be safe to use in the shower area. It is not recommended for a steam shower.

A:  The light fixture comes with brackets that are attached to the bottom. The brackets are about 1.5 long to put the light right above the first tube . It does not create a shadow on the bottom lens as the tunnel diffuses that.

A:  No shadow. I put the light itself in the center and halfway between the roof and ceiling. I poked a hole through the tube near the spring so the washers covered the wire in the tube to make it more secure. That is to say, I fashioned the bracket that held the light.

A:  The placement of the light kit is up to you, but most people install it a few inches above the diffuser lens. This a slim profiled fixture, but it can cast a slight shadow onto the diffuser lens during daylight.

A:  Higher up - about 12" or so from the diffuser lens. Allows the light from the bulb to be reflected/diffused by the tunnel before going through the lens. Have not noticed any shadows, just looks like any other (large) recessed light at night.

A:  Higher up. Center of lens is brighter, but you can't distinguish the shape of the light because its diffused randomly. Never thought about it being a problem. The contrast is not high. But if you're looking for complete uniformity of light on the lens, you're not going to get that. I like mine being able to be lit when there is no sunlight.

A:  It will fit sizes up to 14" and is a universal install for any tubular skylight.

A:  The VELUX Electric Light Kit will fit VELUX Sun Tunnel Skylights in sizes 010 and 014.

A:  The light kit mounts in the tube behind the opaque lens that is on the ceiling. If you put a decorator fixture in the tube, you won’t see it.

A:  Not integrated with the sun tunnel, but you can have both on the ceiling if you wanted, but mounted of course in separate locations. So you'd be looking at 2 fixtures on the ceiling - your decorative light, and the sun tunnel ceiling lens.

A:  If you can find a way to mount it inside the tube, you can use a decorative light fixture. This kit is designed with a mounting bracket that'll fit properly inside the tube.

A:  Yes, you can use some sort of bulb fixture, but it will just hang in there and probably you will start to regret the decision after awhile. Make sure that you use a non incandescent bulb, like what is shown in the picture.

A:  I don’t think you would be able to come up w a way to mount a different/regular light in the tunnel...without tearing the sides and ruining the insualtion factor...

A:  Thank you for your question, Helen. In regards to providing light at night, I wouldn't recommend trying to use something other than the ZTL light kit inside the Sun Tunnel. If you are interested in having a fancier-looking ceiling diffuser, we have one available (the model number begins with ZTB) through special order at your local Home Depot store. You would need to call our customer service number at 800-888-3589 to obtain the exact model number that will work for your Sun Tunnel, as there are different sizes and different finishes (white, bronze, nickel, and brass.) A:  Hey AHK, the Electric Light Kit can be installed in conjunction with the Solar NightLight in our rigid sun tunnels. The only issue being the lights are typically installed at different heights, and a slight shadow of the lower product may be visible through the diffuser.

A:  I would say that it would as long as there is room for both lights inside tube.

A:  You can place the ZTL 114 light kit into most 10 inch or 14 inch sun tunnels. (it will not fit the TSR 010 model) You will need to remove the trim ring and the diffuser lens and gasket to install this item. A:  It is my understanding that as long as it is a 2 prong GU bulb. An LED version will work perfectly fine. Thank you for choosing Velux!

A:  They make an LED bulb that is the same model/type that is called for. I bought it and it works great. Also, we have a dimmer switch hooked up to the light, and the LED bulb I bought was dimmable also. It works great.

A:  Yes, it would be possible as long as the tunnel length is long enough to accommodate both the Light Kit and the Daylight Controller. The Light Kit would have to be at the bottom of the tunnel (near the ceiling) and the Daylight Controller would need to be a couple of feet above the Light Kit. I hope this is helpful! A:  You have to twist to remove the white trim piece and pull out the plastic cover. Unless you have a decorative cover, then I would imagine something similar. Haven't installed one yet.

A:  The light bulb required for this sun tunnel is the 2 pronged GU 24 bulb. (not included with light kit) To change the bulb would require that the interior or cosmetic trim ring be removed at the ceiling. You will just push slightly upward and rotate the ring until it comes off. You will also need to remove the dual diffuser and rubber gasket to be able to access the light bulb. A:  It will depend on your local code. You are either adding a switched circuit, extending a switch circuit, or rerouting the circuit.

A:  Per our Installation Instructions, since the cable must be installed in a junction box, the installation must be made by a certified electrician or the product must be installed within the guidelines of the National Electrical Code. Thank you for choosing VELUX!

A:  It depends on your local codes. You are either rerouting a switched circuit, adding a switch circuit, or extending a switched circuit. It it made to use a light bulb that uses hose power.
