A: Type 1&2 both have a non-combustible substrate
Type 2 also has a ember shield with R1.592 thermal rating
In simple terms 2 has more protection than 1

A: Type 1 is for ember protection but does not protect from heat on the surface below. Type 2 is for thermal protection and provides a more efficient and safer hearth pad.

A: a type 1 pad does not have the Insulated base. If you are installing it on a Wood floor you would want to get a type 2 pad. it has an insulated pad on the underside of it.

A: No it's heavy enough once in position doesn't move easily so I don't think it would scratch a wood floor
