A: which side faces up toward air flow
by|Oct 10, 2018
A: For purposes of how well the filter will work, it doesn't matter. There is no ariflow indicator on the packaging. My furnace is an updraft type, drawing air upward through a hole at the bottom of the furnace and I decided to face the stiff side of the filter, the side with the "small squares" netting that provides the stiffness, facing down towards the air inflow.

A: Yes,. I used a pair of sturdy large kitchen shears to cut through both the cellophane packaging and the filter along the dimension lines I drew on the packaging using a yardstick and Sharpie. There's no way to avoid the shedding of cut fiber filiment and debris, so pick an area easy to sweep.
