Q:Is that ok?

Answer This Question
A: Yes it will work, yet it's overkill. You don't need two GFCI outlets on one circuit. Then again, people have been killed stepping on a defective extension cord. Your good!

Q:Can a power surge protector strip be plugged into this?

A: Yes

A: Yes, a ground fault and a surge are two different things and protect items/people from different threats. The GFCI protects people from electrocution. The surge protector protects equipment from surges.

A: Maybe. A good surge protector will trip your GFCI. Let me explain. A GFCI will trip if the HOT current does not equal the return NEUTRAL current. If the difference is more than 5mA, the GFCI will trip. This means current is leaking somewhere else (like in your body!). That’s why GFCI’s are used in moist places like the bathroom garage, and outside.
But a good surge protector has filters in it that divert electrical noise to ground. This “diversion” might be enough to trip the GFCI. Surge protector filters need to divert noise to ground to save your unit (stereo, fridge, etc.) from power surges, lightning strikes, and other equipment’s noise.
So I would suggest using a surge protector first and then plug the GFCI into the surge protector. Now you have a very nice filter and safety setup.
