Q:Can toro blue stripe 1/2 inch be connected to a high pressure pump at idle speed?

Answer This Question
A: Sure. You can connect it to any high pressure pump just don't exceed the PSI rating that Toro has for this tubing.

A: The product may work fine for the application you are describing, but it is designed to be used under relatively low-pressure, drip irrigation applications. Depending upon the pressure your pump is generating, it could create failures or “blow outs” at your connection points.

Q:I'm cutting this tubing into several sections, and I need to put end caps/plugs on the ends. I don't see Blue Stripe end caps anywhere on HomeDepot.com. What end caps work with this tubing?

A: We found folding the end of the hose and tie wrapping it still allowed water to leak out the end. We ended up using a short piece of 1/2" pvc with a pvc end cap glued to it, pushed the 1/2" pvc into the end of the 1/2" blue stripe tubing and tightened a hose clamp on the end of the hose to secure the pvc. The pvc is a tight enough fit that the hose clamp is probably not necessary. You can also paint the pvc black to make it blend in with the tubing.

A: Could not find the ones I normally use, but have used DIG 1/2 in. Compression End Cap Model # Q58,
Well did another search as I have used them from HD before finally found them = DIG Figure-8 Hose End Closure (5-Pack) Model # F68B You can use either one the figure 8 just put on the hose and push it down fold hose over and then move closure up to hold the end. I have around 50 of them in stock as I water only with drip, put the water on the ground not on the plant (rain can do that) but like tomatoes they don't like wet leaves. In a bind you can use tie wraps but you need to replace ASAP as they will come off. Good luck. If your store does not have them you can order online

A: Most 1/2" end caps will work just fine. Or go the cheaper route and get end clamps.
by|Apr 21, 2020
A: You can create a closure by folding over the end of the tube. You can zip-tie the folded end a couple inches above the fold. Or, other manufacturers sell “end closures” on homedepot.com.

A: works laying on the ground in garden so guess you could try
by|May 2, 2023
A: No. It will not last. The sun will dry it out and cause it to crack. It gets hard when it gets cold and helps it crack easier under pressure. I don't believe it is made for that.
by|May 2, 2023
A: Blue Stripe Drip tubing is designed for use with drip irrigation systems within specific flow and pressure ratings. This product has not been tested for use in any other application and is therefore not recommended for use with solar heat collection systems or any other related application.

A: Hi Bob.
While this tubing is rated for outdoor and greenhouse use, the pool chemicals will cause it to fail prematurely. I would suggest using a commercial grade tubing available from your local landscape supply, or plumbing supply house.

Q:Most places say that you can only go from 10 to 30' with 1/4" tubing before you run out of pressure. I need 100' drip lines, for the garden, any suggestions.

A: No hole are like 1/16" dia. use 1/2" feed and tap off with 1/4" to plants
by|May 2, 2023
A: The holes created by the hole punch tool are fairly small. They are just large enough to accommodate the ¼” fittings and emitters but still ensure a tight seal when the fittings and emitters are inserted.
by|May 2, 2023
A: The holes are small about 1/8" when you use the tool, and are the right size to insert the 1/4" tubing adapter. I don't think the length of the 1/4" tube is going to reduce the pressure since the number of drippers you hang on it will reduce it. When you go from 1/2" tubing to 1/4" tubing, there will be an increase in pressure. I would not run the 1/4" lines more than 20' because it may plug up from dirt if any gets in the line, but you probably could.

Q:Should this be drained for winter?

Answer This Question
A: When it gets cold turn off the water that goes to the control valve and don't use it for awhile so it will drain out the pressure through the emitters/drippers. If it is above ground, it will freeze easier so it could crack. It cracks often, in my experience from the water pressure, even when less than 25 PSI.

A: Yes, ice would be destructive. Water expands when it becomes ice. The tubing and connectors, effective at water transportation, may not be resist expanding water. Also, other tubing products, ie water hose, become brittle in the winter when water/ice is present. The same would likely occur with the TORO product.

A: Yes, I remove any of the circular parts that close off ends and just try to lift it up as high as I can reach, which seems to work fine
by|Mar 28, 2023
A: NO, I don't drain should not be any water in it as it has holes for drip fittings so should drain out, if not tube should not be full of water so will have room to let ice expand.

A: Drip irrigation lines should be drained for winter. It is important NOT to use high pressure air to blow out a drip irrigation zone.

Q:I need to connect the Toro Blue Stripe 1/2 in. Drip Tubing with a bulkhead connector. (I might put a union in between to make disconnect easier.) With a .710 OD x .620 ID will the Toro Blue Stripe 1/2 in. Drip Tubing work with an off-the-shelf bulkhead and/or union? If so, what size? If not, where do I get these parts?

A: Use the Toro Hose End Swivel (Toro Model 53701) to connect the tubing to the bulk head connector. You may need an adapter in between the bulk head connector (which are typically NPT or "pipe thread" ) and the hose swivel connector (which is ¾" FHT or female "hose thread.")

Q:Every Toro emitter I have seen on HomeDepot.com says, "For use with Blue Stripe Drip 1/4 in. tubing (not included)". Will these work for the 1/2 in. tubing? Example:

A: yes just punch hole and put in connector or emitter and you are all set
by|May 2, 2023
A: Yes, emitters can be attached directly onto ½" hose. Use a hole punch (Toro Model 53679) to make holes to attach emitters directly onto the ½" tubing or insert onto ends of ¼" drip tubing to better reach the plant's base.
by|May 2, 2023
A: The emitters I have seen at HD are for connecting to 1/4" poly tubing. You should run 1/4" poly tubing from the 1/2" poly tubing to your plants and put the emitter on the end of the 1/4" tubing. There is a connector that pokes into the 1/2" tubing to connect the 1/4" tubing.
