A:  The carrying case is a durable plastic, keeps the sockets in better condition (no marks from storage, get enough marks from use).

A:  Chrome Vanadium is the specific alloy of steel that the sockets are made of.

A:  It stands for Chrome Vanadium Chrome vanadium, 1050 carbon steel, S2, and 8650 are all common grades in use. Protanium® Steel is a proprietary alloy steel developed and used only by Bondhus. It is the hardest, most ductile, and longest wearing steel that exists in the hex tool industry.

A:  I recommend to NOT buy an impact socket set made from Cr-V (Chrome Vanadium). This is because Cr-V is a much more brittle alloy, and is more likely to split or even shatter under the pounding they get from an impact wrench. The cheap impact sockets just use a thicker-wall Cr-V and call it good. A quality impact socket will be made from Cr-Mo (Crome molybdenum), which is much stronger AND absorbs impact much better (less brittle). Husky brand impact sockets are Cr-Mo.

A:  Chrome vanadium. Impact sockets are made of either chrome vanadium or of chrome molybdenum steel. The former is a bit harder, so sockets made of it stand up to wear a bit better, while the latter is a bit more malleable, so sockets made of it are a bit less likely to shatter. Overall, both seem to work equally well.

A:  Tekton is a company in Michigan, but has tools made in many parts of the world, some tools from the United States. The impact sockets are from Taiwan. They could also be made in China as a second source, but the Tekton website said Taiwan.
