Q:If it foams up at night at the entrance of the ground nest, how does it kill the bees if they are not active until the morning when the foam is gone? Does it leave a residue/dust that kills them when they come in contact when exiting?

A:  Hi Matt, thank you for the inquiry regarding our Spectracide 16 oz. Aerosol Carpenter Bee and Ground-Nesting Yellow jacket Killer Foam. The insects will die with 24 hours of contact of the product. Using attached extension tube, spray product directly into holes in ground where yellowjacket activity has been observed. After 24 hours, cover the hole with soil. For best results, spray early in the morning or late in the evening when yellowjacket activity is low and most yellowjackets are in the nest. A:  I would not think regular soil versus potting soil should change the effectiveness of the spray. I most certainly would use it. This seems to be more of a soapy spray, other wasp sprays are oil based. Soap is very effective at killing wasps and other insects, it suffocates/drowns them, and doesnt hurt or affect my plants. No bad odor either. May take over a minute for the wasps to keel over, but it does work, and is my favorite spray to use, i have even killed black widow spiders using it. I love the control the long tube gives. little waste, and it works!

A:  Call a beekeeper please.  Honeybees are protected and necessary for the environment.  A beekeeper will take the bees out for free

Q:This keeps saying it's for ground nesting bees, but then it says it MUST be spayed directly on to the nest so my question is, will this work on ground nesting yellow jackets where all you see is the hole they are going in to in the ground?

A:  I have ground yellow jackets. Tried 2 cans Raid, I bottle of dish soap. No luck. Will try this next. For carpenter bee I fill holes with Great Stuff Foam. Might try GS on the yellow jacket underground nest. At 4am there are no bees outside the nest.

A:  Common sense says you don’t go anywhere near a yellow jacket nest. If you are brave and fairly determined I guess you could approach it after dark and spray it right into the hole. I bought several cans of  This particular product and tried to use it on one nest. It did not kill them. They just kept returning and digging deeper. Had to wait till the first frost and pour boiling salt water into the hole and then fill it up with sand with dirt on top and packed it down. Seriously might be cheaper and safer to call a good exterminator. It doesn’t do anything to carpenter bees. I use three cans to get the bees in the eaves of my shed… They just kept coming back even when I sprayed them directly…. They just flew away. You are talking about 2 difficult species to exterminate. Both are considered pollinators but can be dangerous to human health. Rarely do carpenter bees sting but they have the ability to and they have big stingers. Numerous Yellow jacket  Stings can trigger a death response in humans. Since I was asked, Leave it to the professionals on these two critters!!!

A:  Yes, it worked for me. By inserting the "straw" into the hole in the nest, then spraying the insecticide, the foam expands to fill the nest from the inside. Be sure to do this after sunset, when the yellow jackets are back in the nest and have stopped flying around the opening.
